I gotta say, this is kind of clever. Rather than having a screen where you hold up a set of shapes (like, say, circles) on a card and position it so it's in a box, they slapped a U shape on it to make a smiley face and made the onscreen box into glasses. "Make the smiley wear the glasses." is an instruction most newbies can follow, while "Hold the calibration card so it fills the box on your screen." would having some people holding up the game box, or holding the card sideways, or backwards, or SOMETHING.
