I know I'm a little late on this one (search bar approved!) but I was wondering what you guys think/thought about King of the Hill? After being convinced by a friend to wade through the swamp that is The Cleveland Show, I caught an episode of King of the Hill. I've heard of it before, seen it but never really watched it, if that makes sense. Anyway, I realised that this may well have been the best cartoon on TV. It's feel good and funny on a way that things like Family Guy or South Park could never hope to achieve (not that they try; I wouldn't go to KOTH for light relief).

Anyway, what do you think?

It was (and still somewhat is) one of my favorite shows on television. Right now it's pretty even with Ugly Americans, although new episodes for that don't start until October, so I'll be watching re-runs of KOTH.

I really enjoy the show. Dale-heavy episodes, especially.

I enjoy the show because it's not trying too hard to be funny. It's a parody on life in Texas for the average family.

Supposed to be, at least... I think.

It was an excellent show. One of these days, it will probably reside in my BlueRay collection.

I foresee bad things in this thread, partly because I saw flame wars break out over it. Never mind, this thread seems to be going nicely.

On topic, I rather liked it, partly because it was one of the shows I watched as a kid. I do acknowledge that it went downhill when Lucky and Luanne(sp?) started a relationship, though.

I liked King of the Hill. The conservativism (if that's a word) of the characters really bugged me, nut at least a majority of what the character's went through was actually believable, for the most part. It wasn't a bad show, but I think a lot of people went into it thinking it'd be like Family Guy.

And, of course, Hank's seriousness makes for some classic lines.
"I tell'ya what, six a.m. and already the boy ain't right."
"I'm gonna sell pro-pane and pro-pane accessories...if my grades are good enough."

May I ask what? And why?
I saw a thread where people started bashing Peggy, and later the show. Of course, my prediction seems to be wrong so far, and I'm glad it is.

I liked it. It had subtlety, and alot of parody of the American/Texan outlook on things from different American perspectives. You can watch the show and be like "I know that type of person" and still realize that they're stereotypes. It's just a good balance. And none of it is too "over the top". Some of it might be "improbable" but none of it is too unrealistic (compared to Family Guy and American Dad's inclusion of aliens and lack of reasonable physics).

Love the Dale/Boomhauer heavy episodes.
Peggy and Bill heavy episodes always turn into bawww or become really pathetic, but they're still entertaining.
And Luane heavy episodes just get on my nerves.

Mike Judge made this if I recall, and he's also the one who did Idiocracy, Office Space,Extract, and Beavis and Butthead. All of his shows basically contain commentary on and parody of American life.

I keep meaning to watch the rest of the seasons. I've seen up through season 6 I think.

I enjoyed it quite a lot. It's one of the few American cartoons that actually has story arcs.

I really don't like the show all that much. It's painful to watch how ignorant and stupid the characters can be... Hank especially.

It's gotten a bit stagnant as of late, in my opinion. I remember that it used to not be so bad, but now I wince when I hear Hank or Peggy talk.

I really liked that show. It seemed hell-bent on making Hank as embarrassed and uncomfortable as possible. The jokes were mostly clean too (until Cotton or, Buck Strickland came into play) It's too bad the series had to end but, I was pleased with the ending. The shows final episode didn't end everything rather, it was used with the later episodes in a way that ended the series in a way that shows everything will turn out alright.

Bobby has a possible career as an adult, Bill and Kahn's Mom are...together I think...I know she left but she made it clear she's coming back. Everything just kinda ends on an, 'everything will be alright' note.

Bobby's probably my favourite character next to Boomhauer, but when he goes crazy, it gets on my nerves. You know, the styrofoam head, the ants or termites or whatever they were... that boy ain't right sometimes.

I find KotH largely insufferable. I have a wide varitety of reasons for it, but by and ;arge they centre around the fact that despite it's attemt at satire, it just isn't funny. It's a bunch of dumb hicks that do nothing but be dumb hicks, and I find that more depressing than humourous.

I like it a lot, regardless of the fact I live in the English countryside. Both different worlds but a lot of the humour I actually get and find downright hilarious.
I'm not too keen on some of the episodes where Bobby and his mum are made out to be tools used by other people because of their extreme naivety, as well as Luanne too in some cases although there are some exceptions which turn out to be amusing in their own right.

However I do find it's well into the minority as everybody seems to prefer the crass but sometimes amusing Family Guy, American Dad and so on

I live in England, but something about Arlen seems almost idyllic. Sure, they're mostly idiots, but it seems like it would be a great place to live. Every 21 minutes of my life would have a lesson, for one thing.

I wouldn't call it a parody of the life so much as a over dramatization of the texas stereotypes. Regardless it's overall fantastic, well except peggy, I hate that arrogant *****.

P.S. I was extremely disappointed with the cleveland show, I figured talking bear, awesome! Then I learned what the little kid withe afro was like, I wanted to reach into the tv and snap his neck.
