I find KotH largely insufferable. I have a wide varitety of reasons for it, but by and ;arge they centre around the fact that despite it's attemt at satire, it just isn't funny. It's a bunch of dumb hicks that do nothing but be dumb hicks, and I find that more depressing than humourous.

I live in England, but something about Arlen seems almost idyllic. Sure, they're mostly idiots, but it seems like it would be a great place to live. Every 21 minutes of my life would have a lesson, for one thing.
See, maybe it's my Canadian distaste for america talking, but Arlen is the embodiment of my worst fucking nightmare. The town as presented in KotH is where I will be sent for my eternal punishment if there turns out to be a vengeful god in the afterlife.

Arlen, Texas is my concept of hell.

This will end well...

I live in England, and Arlen looks great. On the other hand, Canada seems to have very little but maple leaves, ice hockey and Moxy Fruvous (God rest their souls). Honestly, Canada seems like my idea of a nightmare.

Seriously though, I only think that because of my own ineducation (Canada doesn't feature too much in British history books), and I'm sure Canada is a beautiful place.

America still seems better though!

I love king of the hill though I'm burn out on repeats right now, it managed to stay funny but still be relatively clean something you rarely see these days. Hank Hill has to be one of the best designed characters ever.

I think it aptly conveys (and parodies) the close-minded beliefs of a the stereotypical American.

The humor is subtle, and very dry - which might (and by reading this thread, most definitely did) turn some people off.

Overall, I like it.

I enjoy KotH. It's a nice change of pace from the forced are-we-funny-yet style of most similar American cartoons (Family Guy, South Park, Simpsons, etc), and the characterization is really well done.

I hate it. Sure, they have some subtle satire mixed in... But overall, I dislike the way it's drawn, I dislike all the characters, I dislike hard-ass "moral" messages it "spreads"...

So, yeah, in my humble opinion, fuck king of the hill.

Even Beavis and Butthead despite for the most part being dumb pile of shit is better then this...

More reason to enjoy it in my book, the humour thankfully isn't slapstick as is widely seen in other sitcoms as of late.

I've actually only watched it once, but I really enjoyed it. It has an amusing way of parodying american life that I enjoy.

Awwwwww I thought this was about the gamemode.

Just kidding. But really, King of the Hill is one fo those show's that I could watch re-run's over and over of and never get tired of it but strangely enough, I don't have any of the DVD's. Maybe because they keep running re-run's of it but aw well. Maybe it's the charcthers or some of the things they do but I love that show.

It was a great show that took believable situations and people and took intelligent shots at pop culture and stayed fresh through all of it (South park may be funny but the references in the later episodes have already become dated) I mean who doesn't have that one friend like Dale who is paranoid about everything?

Meh, I would say that I didn't like it, but it seems there's always an episode or two that I find myself sitting down and laughing at.

King of the Hill resides in the same area as X-Files for me, where I try to sit down and watch it, find myself not liking it, then when I tell people the episode, they tell me that it was actually one of the worst episodes of the series itself.

Which makes sense because they'll sit down with me and I find myself drawn towards the episodes they get me to watch.

I think it was a great show. It was undoubtedly one of the best written animated series of all time. The problem, however, was that they made their characters so flawed that they were not likable. Hank was the only person I really felt any sympathy for, and while the other characters provided good antagonists for his character to play off of, the rest of them are frustratingly unlikable and Peggy and Bobby make me almost want to change the channel. But I do stand up for how good the quality of the show is, especially the writing.

Mike Judge made this if I recall, and he's also the one who did Idiocracy, Office Space,Extract, and Beavis and Butthead. All of his shows basically contain commentary on and parody of American life.
Yes, Hank Hill was originally a character on Beavis and Butthead, then he got his own show, just like Daria.
Thanks for that comment.
I never really paid attention to Beavis and Butthead (I thought it was really stupid, but my step-brother loved it, and it was on in the background). I just learned about Daria yesterday while hanging out at my friend's house. While I found Daria funny, I think it was more because of the characters uncanny consistence in tone (especially Daria's monotone) that made it funny rather than any of the actual jokes.

Edit:According to wiki, Hank and Tom Anderson are two separate people, and Hank Hill was just very influenced by him. Also says they were both based on the same person Mike Judge knew when he was a kid.

I generally liked the show, except for the episodes where they seem to go out of their way to make Hank always right when it comes to Bobby. No matter what happens during the course of the episode that might prove that Hank needs to be more supportive/ accepting of Bobby or that he might be wrong, they turn it around so that Hank was right to believe Bobby would fail/ be humiliated/ etc. That always annoyed the hell out of me.

What I like best about King of the Hill is that it appreciated the charm and humor of small town, old fashioned morals and values without putting them up on a pedestal. It shows these things as both good and bad at the same time--their morals get them into ridiculous situations but also give them strength when they need it. I often don't agree with the "moral" of the show, but that doesn't mean I don't enjoy it immensely. It does a really good job of showing one way to look at the world without insisting that it is the only way to look at it, or that this way is somehow sacred (like when the Republicans talk about small town, old fashioned morals). I live in the US and I have many doubts about my country and many good reasons for having these doubts, but sometimes it is nice to see people with such simple faith in it and living such simple lives. I wish I could live that way sometimes.

Plus I've always thought Texas is such an interesting place. It's history is really interesting, and I think the fact that it was once its own completely independent country have really shaped the world view of people who live there. Every Texan I've known (including the ones I am related to) have a very unique way of looking at the world, and I feel like King of the Hill really shows that world view.
