Note that I haven't played Kingdom Hearts 3D yet so take what I say with a handful of salt.

Short answer: No, I'm glad they continued.

Long answer: I would have been perfectly content if they had ended it after Kingdom Hearts 2, as far as story-telling is concerned. However, I do like the other games released after (notably 358/2 Days and Birth By Sleep - Coded I could do without). SE have managed to come up with new characters that I like and empathize with which is always a good thing in my book. Those worth mentioning would likely be Xion, Roxas, Terra and Aqua. I know Roxas was already in KH2 but Days explored his character a lot more than KH2 did.

They are certainly making a more complex plot than required but I've managed to follow the plot until now and I still really enjoy the games so that's why I'm glad. The mistake SE have made is trying to get a game on every single console in existence - it is infuriating that one needs half a dozen consoles just to keep up and it is the sole reason I have yet to play 3D.

Kingdom Hearts fucked up when they failed to release the third game on PS3. Now we're going to get a game that should have a cartoony art style on a ps4, and all the stuff I've seen for it shows that SE is making the gigantic mistake of loading their game with realistic textures and lighting.

I think Birth By Sleep is excellent, so I don't mind it's inclusion. However, I would have preferred getting Kingdom Hearts 1-3 first, to tell Sora's main story, and then they could have expanded the story with the likes of Chain of Memories, Birth By Sleep, Dream Drop Distance, Coded etc.

I am totally cool with prequels and filler stories, but it feels like they wanted to cram as many games in between the finale of the main trilogy just to make the story more epic, but for me it just feels bloated and somewhat silly now.
You...you should not steal what others are going to say, it makes it difficult for those other people to respond.
I apologize, I'll try to tone down the excellent insightful responses in the future. ;)

Eh... I can't really agree or disagree on that notion, though... I can get how the story went from focusing on [mainly] Sora and his adventures to a story revolving around a very manipulative antagonist with his overall story disguised as more adventures with Sora and friends/others that have keyblades themselves... But, honestly, I have been loving how expansive the game's lore can get over time and, even though KH2 was "simplistic" in its own right (with KH1 being even more so), this overall expansion can make us connect with the characters more the more we do learn about them, especially through their reactions with other well-established characters...

However, the fact that the "main games", at least, were not really the "full" game when compared to their "final mix" counterpart, especially in the story department, is just one of the things I kinda dislike about the series despite still loving this series to death... Another thing I didn't like, personally, was how they handled any of the [important] battle moments in the cinematic cutscene version of 358/2 Days, especially the second-to-last battle in particular[footnote]
It didn't have that same impact that it did in the original DS version where you got to experience the battle between Roxas and Xion with some pretty kickass music playing alongside it...
[/footnote]... I'm really hoping the cinematic cutscene version of Re:Coded does well in the showcasing [actual] combat department, but I digress...

Anyway, I'm just hoping there's some kind of [suitable] conclusion to the "Xehanort arc", since this is what has "happened" to the series right now... and, if this was just the "Sora arc", then it should have ended in KH1 [minus the cliffhanger, I guess] with KH2 starring another protagonist with their own little arc exclusive to that game, though... Then, we would be calling Kingdom Hearts the new Final Fantasy in the story department, I think...

Most of the game that occurred after KH2 is released exist mostly to fill in gaps between KH1 and KH2, close up plotholes(?), and give other characters (mostly organization XIII) room for more character development. The last part begin the thing I like the most

That begin said, if the devolper have more stories to tell/conclude after KH2, I say go ahead. Given the fact that

The main bad is still alive and all

Personally, I am more mad at Square by the fact that it took this long for the final mix version to come out in Amercia. (that and they are willing to charge us full price for something that we brought incomplete) But meh
