No because if you count robonaut you might as well count the robotic arm of the ship as the first robots in space

This is a crass publicity stunt to make the Japanese feel like they are actully doing something worth while instead of just making toys.

Anyway if anything shows how advanced robot technology is coming if it can do all that. I do wonder what it's practical uses are unless the entire experiment is just seeing how well humans and robots can interact with each other which in itself is a decent experiment.

You know how it is with the West when it comes to Japan. They're just scared.

We'll see how much of a stunt it is when the japanese have robot satalites that can shoot pods with assault droids from space at mach 5 down right on to your front lawn. We'll all still be laughing i'm sure when these robots emerge from their drop pods with their twin mounted gatling guns already spinning with their aim squarely at your face. We should borrow a motto from dune "Thou shalt not make a machine in the likeness of a human mind." Or in a couple centries start preparing for our own Butlerian Jihad

Yeah, I didn't think we could make robots stand on one leg. We couldn't build it, we didn't have the technology.
Granted, he does only weigh a kilogram, so that must make it easier. We're still a ways away from making full sized robots who can stand on one leg.

And, maybe someday, we can make them hop to.
