There have been alot of Rumors going around that THQ is shutting down/getting sold off. That got me to thinking, how many gamers out there actually aware of who the developer is when they buy their games?

Is there a company you know that always makes good stuff, or do you just go by a game to game bases like I do?

I keep a watchful eye out for certain developers/publishers like Atlus and NIS, and I always look up the developer and publisher before I buy a game.

I often check who developed it, i don't check publisher often enough though.
IF it's published by Atlus or made by Bethesda it's bound to be quite nice imo.

i'm wishing i could add more major publishers/developers to that list :/

I tend to follow certain developers, Obsidian, DICE, etc rather than check who developed some random game I have an interest in. Has THQ developed a game since Company of Heroes?

Relic developed Company of Heroes, THQ published. They both did the same for Dawn of War II and expansions since Company of Heroes.

I always know who developed the games I play, as for some reason it interests me. I can tell you who published and made pretty much all the games I've played with confidence, and pretty much always look out for developers I like.

One of the first things I notice about a game is who's making it.

So what have THQ actually developed recently? Apart from their Wii Doodle thingy that is.

Nope never . I don't care who makes a game as long as i want/ like the game. As long as they don't have dumb drm or make me use things like origin without giving me a choice . So no EA or ubisoft for me . But other than that , i could care less who makes the game , as log as the game is good.

I'm usually aware afterwards because I read the box, but if I notice I've been getting a lot of games from the same dev, I'll look up their other games. Or if I really loved a game and want to find if they did anything similar.

I won't be sold on a game just because it's by a dev/publisher I like, but if it looks good it will convince me to buy the game sooner (since I normally wait for prices to go down) than if it was an unknown dev. Besides even if a company always makes good stuff it doesn't mean that good stuff is too my taste.

99% of the time. The 1% is developers I've never heard of before.

And OP I can't think of a single company that always makes good stuff. Even Bioware made a game I didn't like. End of days man, end of days

I research the hell out of my titles before I buy. Honestly, the only companies I would even consider rolling the dice on and going in knowing nothing about the game (which is something only Bizarro Warren would consider doing) are Atlus, NIS, and Double Fine. I've yet to play a game from those companies that I haven't enjoyed.

I tend to keep an eye on Bioware since I've enjoyed all of their games since Mass Effect 1. I even thought Dragon Age 2 was pretty good for cash in sequel. I'm also keeping a close eye on Ubisoft for more Assassin's Creed and hopefully another Prince of Persia at some point.

Nothing, they are a publisher. They do own their developers though - Volition (Saint's Row, Red Faction), Relic (Dawn of War, Company of Heroes) and Vigil (Darksiders) are all wholly owned subsidiaries of THQ, as far as Wikipedia can tell me.
