So the game based on a fictional group is a tribute to soldiers who are real? Ahh Kotick, you are the new Michael Atkinson n terms of gamer hatred. Except somehow worse, because you are in the inside.

Oh, Kotick, you'll kill me one day.

Hold on, I got that the wrong way round.

4. The man is achieving to send delusional idiots that play CoD massivily into the Army
thinking war is cool. Obviously never played Arma/Operation Flashpoint.
5. This man's head is shoved into his ass so much he will smell his own bullshit and believe in it as well.
Or watch "All quiet on the Western Front" or "Full Metal Jacket"

and also, his donation may have done some good, but it's more likely a way to advertise Black Ops some more.

He's being a gigantic dumbass, alright, but hey, if he's giving away money to our troops, that's at least something. Baby steps, Kotick. Baby steps.

Well the donation will go to a good cause, but I like others here think that this really wasn't a genuine donation out of the goodness of his heart and more of a "look at me and buy my stuff I do nice things for people"

Which veterans do you honor? Doesn't like...everyone die in Modern Warfare 2?

so our veterans are running around the battlefield with dual shotguns and camping in the corner??
Totally. They also run really fast so that they can stab people with butter knives a few times before their government gives them a multi-billion dollar nuclear device with which they can personally aim and use to kill themselves, their entire platoon, millions of dollars worth of equipment and their enemy; which is comprised of approximately 15 men.

This shit is spot on.

To be fair for a moment, the 'ficticious stuff being a tribute to real soldiers' fault, we've seen what happens if they dare to mention anything real like say, Fallujah or the Taliban.

Seems some non gamers won't be happy until the only depiction of our soldiers in gaming is of them dressed as purple elephants firing custard guns at the evil jello monsters. (Even then Jack Thompson will be calling them dessert simulators, training our kids to be serial chefs.

As for $1 million to veterans, it's a good thing, that is all. Personally, if I ran a children's charity, I'd take donations from Gary Glitter and the estate of Michael Jackson, because screw publicity, money is more useful than Fox will ever be. Doesn't mean I'm excusing what they did, just means I'm taking their money to help kids.

I think that the hatred for Mr. Kotick is a bit over inflated at this point. Not to mention Activision's recent donation of $1 million to veterans. Just because he is full of himself and doesn't have a handle on what exactly gamers want from his franchise doesn't mean he is a bad person nor that he doesn't care about veterans.

Donating money to people that risked their lives for what they believe is right? That's nice enough, despite it being a somewhat insignificant amount to Activision.

But don't you just love how he's able to turn it around in such a tiny article from "our troops are important" to "oh, and CoD is the greatest game ever."?

The donation is a good thing, regardless of motives.

As a veteran, I'm moderately vexed not by the game or its content, but by the temerity of draping yourself in the flag to sell a game. Thanks for the donation, Mr. K, but would you mind not using the sacrifices of your fellow citizens as a means pitch a product? You may have the right to do so, bought and paid for by those same people, but it's just distasteful and makes you look like a shameful opportunist.

I think he just did it as a kick in the teeth to EA, who said the same thing about MoH except MoH was a failure. It's pretty ridiculous, he could have gotten away with this pre-MW, but MW, MW2, and Black Ops all feature completely fictional stories, the WW2 games at least had a basis in actual historic battles

The timing of this after the Medal of Honour fiasco just can't be coincidental. It strikes me as "Oh, their war game is evil, come to our side if you want a game that truly honours the troops. After all, there's no taliban in here, absolutely none at all Sir. Buy Black Ops- I mean, salute the troops."
