I am in shock. I Have been getting killed OVER and OVER again by the damn Sand People on Tatooine, and I DO NOT KNOW WHY. I played this game so much years ago and I never struggled and replayed sections of the game dozens of times.

When you are attempting to head to the Sand People Enclave, you get attacked multiple times by groups of them. HOWEVER, they ALWAYS hit you and sometimes with Flurry, while my attacks miss pretty often, especially against the Elite Warriors. They constantly throw grenades, and when you're locked in battle it's nearly impossible to avoid them.

But the point of absolute disbelief came when I had attempting to enter the next area, which is guarded by three regular mooks and two Elite mooks. Not only are they capable of killing your party easily, but a group of three more spawn immediately when you kill all but one of them, and this happened THREE GODDAMN times. I can't begin to describe the anger I felt when I was down to my last party member, and finally killed all but one of the Sand peeps, only to watch three more randomly spawn and slaughter me, fr the 19th time, 20th time, etc. And because of the spawning muthafuckers, my party members never revived until I killed a total of FOURTEEN Sand People, with Juhani only... at level 9.

The game is so hard up to the point where I actually hold my level ups until a way too hard battle where I need an instant health recovery, and after battle I let my game sit so that my party's force points regenerate and I can use Heal because if I actually used all my medpacks when I needed them I would have run out before I even left Dantooine.

So to all the fans of the game, can you comment? Did I just rock harder back then and built my party better? Is the Platinum Hit edition upped in difficulty!? If Normal is so goddamn hard, how tortorous would Difficult be???

Elite Tuskens? I thought they were Tusken Holy Warriors.

You have encountered Tusken Holy Warriors, haven't you?

Anyways, have you got HK-47 with you? Make sure you get him before you enter the enclave, or it will be a bloodbath. What class are you playing as, and what lightsaber crystals are you using?

No, they are merely named Sand People Warrior and Elite Warrior. I'm playing the Xbox Platinum Hits version, so maybe there are differences between the Xbox and PC version?

Actually, I was using HK 47 but he was pretty much useless since he uses ranged weapons so he just gets massacred by the melee-using Sand People. I finally got past that part about an hour and a half ago. What ended up happening is that I was running away from three of them with only Juhani, and once I got Knight Speed for her and Bastila and my character I pretty much prevailed against the rest of them, right up to and including the Chieftan. So yeah, once I saw that Knight Speed turned things completely around, I went and massacred the whole tribe.

The crystals I had were Rubat, Bondar, and Danim (the +3 attack crysral).

I'm on Kashyyk now and things are much easier now with Drain Life, Knight Speed, and a couple level ups, but combat is still pretty tough.

Did you visit Tatooine first? I don't remember it being nearly so hard, in fact once I got force wave I don't think a single fight was even mildly difficult.

Yeah - it's been a while, but I pretty much just remember this being a game of spamming/abusing force powers like Knight Speed (or Force Lightning for dark siders).

There's a bug that sets all your attributes to 8 - make sure you don't have that.

Maybe you just made some bad decisions when leveling up. You can just put it on hold and go do other stuff in other planets until you get strong enough.

I think on my first run through Tatooine was where I killed Calo Nord (?) so that was about how early into the game I went there. I do remember having a lot, a lot of trouble with that section though. I think eventually I took control of HK-47 and kept pulling hit and run attacks on the group until they died.

What class are you as well? That can make a difference.

The Sand People disguise that you can get as a drop from them does work from a distance, but when you get to the entrance of the compound the guards will still recognise you.

You must be joking. This game is hilariously easy. The only slightly hard part is before you get your force powers.

If you want some help, post your main character's EXACT stats. (class/force powers/feats/etc)

Oh also it's quite amusing seeing people suggesting HK-47 as a good party member, that gave me a few good laughs thanks guys =p
Really? I found Taris to be quite easy actually. The only reason I saw it as being difficult at times was because you were still getting used to the gameplay and exploring different options rather than just yelling "CCCHHHAAAARRRRGGGEEE!!!" and getting the crap kicked out of you.

Yup, HK-47, possibly my favorite droid in the entire star wars universe. Actually no, not possibly, definitely.

OT: If you are a scout, I would advise just restarting the game. I always found scouts to be pretty useless. You aren't strong enough to burst in through the front and aren't sneaky enough to "come down the chimney dressed as Father Christmas".

Here's what to do-

Kill the Sand People in the Dune Sea and put their robes onto your party members. Then go to their enclave, don't stop to talk to any of them or touch their mines. When you go into the enclave, pause the game instantly and add HK-47 to your party. You should then be challenged by the guard, only for HK to intercede and lead to a negotiation with their chief.

People aren't suggesting HK-47 as a combat character, but for the purposes of his side benefits in regards to this mission. When doing the sandpeople mission, he will intercede and talk to the sandpeople, translating for you and your party. This allows you to complete this part without as much fighting, and allows for a light side ending for it.

I liked HK-47. But that was only when he had infinite flamethrowers near the end.

This was how I did it.

I then laid out a whole lot of mines everywhere and then stole something from one of the containers beside the leader.

Good times.

So I see a lot of people recommending HK-47, but few say why. Some argue that he's weak in combat - this may be true, but there is more to a character than their combat prowess. For example, their character traits? Just listen to the dude's dialogue, he's hilarious.

OT though, as mentioned by others HK-47 offers a peaceful, talky-talky solution to the issue (ironically enough, given his attitude). Which is pretty damned good for someone struggling with combating the little pricks. Honestly, though, I'd say that if you're excessively struggling with combat at all, it's likely due to, how to say this, sub-optimal character building. Which is OK - the mechanical side of whole game is based quite heavily on D&D3.5, and I would've had a hell of a hard time myself had I not been so intimately familiar with the system (I assume you don't share my experience with the system - or if you do, you might be aware that many builds that should be viable simply are not).

My suggestions, therefore, are as follows:
a) Try the peaceful solution (using HK-47) - if you can't figure it out, I found the GameBanshee walkthrough good.
b) Attempt to figure out how to improve you character - go somewhere else and level to correct any weaknesses.
c) Look up character builds, see if you can steal some ideas. The ol' KotOR save editor (can't remember who made it now) is great for respeccing (if you don't view/mind that as cheating). And, if I'm not mistaken, the same program works the sequel too?
d) A mixture/all of the above.

Edit:

Depends how you play - have you ever done the tactical levelling, where you don't actually level up at all until you get your force abilities? Doing all of Taris at level 2 is... taxing. Especially the Bendak Starkiller battle. My goodness.

Ha, I actually thought this was "standard practice", as it were. Or limiting your levels until you get access to Jedi classes anyway - presumably the player knows they're gonna be a Jedi sooner or later. 5/15 (as in, 5 levels of start class, then stop until Jedi) is, I think, what most build guides recommend. Something to do with squeezing a bonus feat or something out of your start class with minimal penalties to your Jedi class?
