Kraken are fucking sweet. Because of this, there's a Kickstarter to create plastic Kraken miniatures for table top gamers. Its here:

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/dungeoncrawler/dungeon-crawler-fantasy-miniatures

The Kraken funded in just over 24 hours, and is currently working on stretch goals.

So, for discussion value, what do you think of Kraken? Or of gaming miniatures? Or of Kickstarers?

[sub]Note: This is not an add. I in no way benefit from this KS. I just think its cool.[/sub]

captcha: she sells seashells. I am not making this shit up. How does captcha know?

I think they're fucking awesome. I love the Kraken, and the idea of a tentacled leviathan deep-sea monster lurking in the abyss of our waters fascinates and horrifies me.

Awesome Asuka avatar, dude!

Is there a paritcular story or myth you have in mind? I know there are stories and stuff but I moslty know the Kraken from D&D and Pirates of teh caribian.

Been a while since I've done the whole model thing but there's tonnes of model makers out there already making some really high quality pieces, couldn't this have filled that role nicely? Roughly the same price as well.

Cheers man! Love your avatar too ;).

Not really no. I do know, however, that the myth started from Scandinavia. My admiration comes mostly from pictures; when I was younger I loved deep-sea monsters particularly giant squids. Therefore, the kraken was like my wet-dream. Now, I am terrified of them and funnily enough it's the drawings and pictures of them that frighten me the most. I actually had a period of my life where I was terrified of closing my eyes in the shower because I would imagine some kind of deep sea monster, read:kraken, would eat me. Silly, but terrifying nonetheless.

I've gotten over it now but pictures still scare me, and so my admiration is limited to text and literature. A pity really. With all of this said, I still wish the Kraken got the pop-culture shark treatment. Films, novels and what-have-yous dedicated to a giant squid terrorizing people. Imagine MEG, a series of novels set in modern-day revolving around a megalodon, but with a kraken!

But alas, it is a far-fetched dream considering they're only considered horrifying to Japanese school-girls.

That was longer than I expected >.>, sorry for the ramble.

But dude, Games Workshop is evil. /sorta kidding

And anyway, that's the same price for an unpainted unassembled miniature. The KS is assembled, painted and shipped for that price.

Sides the KS one looks like the one in Pirates of the Caribian or the Monster Manual.

Shit yeah I should probably get one. I usually lurk so I didn't really bother with one before.

Well crap. I just set one but the image is broken. I tried like four different ones. I can't figure out what the matter is.

Thats actually pretty awesome. Gotta love something that you can scare yourself just by thinking about.

I see it now and I must say, it's very fitting.
You can see my avatar? I still can't see it - I just get a broken image icon.
That happens to me too but never that long... Hmm I believe there is a techncial suppourt user group or failing that the site suppourt should help you out.

what? no kraken jokes?

okay, it look nice but 60 dollars is a bit too steep...
and the color is a matter of taste..
Dude, I had one but apparently one of the mods (or staff) didn't appreciate my humor. Thus my now squeaky clean business like News Report OP.

As for the price, eh, I don't think that's unreasonable. That's a Colossal sized mini. The only other colossal sized D&D mini was the 75 dollar Colossal Red Dragon. I got one of those last year, used, for 200 bucks (they are super rare now). So for me, 60 bucks unpainted is an awesome deal. But then, I like painting minis.

But I'm into collecting minis. For a casual collector who just wants a Kraken toy, its probably pretty pricy.

Eh not worth the effort. I hardly post in the forums anyway. I only did the avatar thing cause you mentioned it. If everyone else can see it that's good enough.

But thanks for the advice dude. If I change my mind I'll know what to do.

It's an odd choice on their part to give the Watcher in the Water some grasshopper legs.

Indeed to be fair we never see the underside in the film version of it though. Probably just to make it more relevant as a playing piece, as you could only really realistically use the old one they did on a table with a large water feature before.
