I'm considering about getting it next week, since it looks quite good. How long is the campaign? Will it be a good time sink for the summer or?
Not for the whole summer I doubt. It is about 40 hours roughly straight through. Side missions included, it can run a bit longer. You will be hard pressed to invest over 100 hours into a single save though.

It is a good game though with some light replay value in it even if you do know all the right choices.

EDIT: Proofreading my review I miscalculated. It took me about 30 hours to beat.

I think its a good game, I'm enjoying it so far...but its also a bit weird and sometimes the investigation doesn't seem to come together very well.

I find myself arresting people not on the grounds they are real suspects, or have done anything to show me they are suspects, but because the game just makes it that way.

I think an "Arrest" button would have been a nice addition, something to allow me to make a real mistake in who I think is the killer.

Also, this game contains the STUPIDEST criminals in the world. Ever heard of DISPOSING OF THE EVIDENCE?! 90% of the people you arrest have the murder weapon...still with blood on it, sitting in their place of residence. I find that a little dumb. Why no finding the weapon laying around, getting finger prints, some forensic work? The character talks about it sometimes "We can match the blood", etc, but it never gets talked about again, not even during the interrogations, which would be the perfect time to bring it up.

I'm a little disappointed in it, and I can understand the lower than perfect ratings its been getting.

It doesn't often feel like I'm solving crimes so much as walking around looking at things, talking to people until the crime is solved FOR me.

Why can't I go back to locations I've already visited to look for missed clues? Why can't I interview people more than once unless the script calls for it? Why do I scream at innocent people all the time?

Its a good game, but its has some flaws that do kinda break it from time to time.

Also, the multiple plots all going on at once is a bit confusing.
Since its in the 40s-50s time frame, forensics was nothing more than a pipe dream at the time. This is why crime rates are lowering, technology has improved to the point we can actually make decisions.
They talk about it in game, prints, blood, semen...they just never actually USE any of it. If you're going to talk about it, it should be a factor for evidence in questioning, but its not available to you. Doesn't make much sense.

I am loving it so far. It takes a while to get into, being how it is almost a whole new genre of it's own. But as you get hooked, you get hooked and hooked hard. The way they treat each case like a TV episode is great, it feels like I am playing Law and Order. I do agree that this game is not for everyone, it's really slow..but I like that. The only thing I don't like is fist fighting, it's not the best around, but on foot chasing has never been done this awesome.

I backed over a curb and mission failed....

BUT

I like it....
Was that at the café traffic case? That happened to me too. WHY did you park there, stupid Bekowski?!

OT: Love it. Absolutely love it. It's really the closest you can be from actual detective work. Only gripe I have with it so far is
this one case where I knew both suspects didn't actually do the deed, but I still had to charge one of them. I feel a bit dirty.
Then again, I only got 2 stars for this case, so it might be my fault.

I'm still on Traffic, and I freaking love the game.
FINALLY a cop-game done right. You aren't some John Mclane wannabe who shots everyone. You actually investigate! I love it. My wife was just watching me play. She could actually just watch! She was helping me with interrogations, and said she would like to actually try it out.

And that's coming from a woman who only really enjoyed Mario Kart.

The game is excellent. I'm loving it, and I can't wait to get back to it tonight after work.
