I really do have to ask, even if it has been asked a zillion times before;

Why the flying fuck won't the Australian government just make an 18+ rating and stop wasting time on this shite? It's completely ridiculous and makes no sense what so ever to fanny about thinking that there are no gamers over the age of 18 in Australia.

I bet they've been watching too much Home and Away.

ALSO - aslong as the world is laughing at aus might aswell point out to you yanks/brits/kiwis/etc a grand assclown stephen conroy is trying to censor the internet here and its getting scarily close which not only bans everything violent, graphic or sexual it also slows down our already ridiculously slow internet, i swear in my wow playing days my guildmates who lived in a swamp in korea next to a dogmeat factory had better internet than me..........
Wow... that sucks! Sorry for you.
France now has a retarded anti download law passed tho, so you're not alone! And what about China?! (Unfortunately; b00 censorship!)

Wow. Way to go, Atkinson. No offense to Aussies, but I'm glad I'm not Australian right now.
I wish I wasn't.

God I hate this group of conservative, family value loving dumbasses who are making all the decisions when they haven't played a game outside of the Wii. It's common sense to implement an R rating while you're overhauling the system. Kids don't get to play bad games and you can have lots of time to really consider the issue without pissing every single adult gamer off. They're also trying to start censoring the internet so it's really a fun place to live at the moment.
When you really think about it there are a heap of games that would be R18 if we had the classification. There's a bunch of stuff that made it through on the MA15 that really shouldn't have.
Yeah I agree. Fallout 3 or Prototype should definitely have not been MA and the 18+ rating would have definitely helped out.

isn't it cool how super-realistic, modern-day warfare can be legalised in Modern Warfare 2, which Australia hasn't banned.

yet, when we want to kill a bunch of zombies, in a totally unrealistic apocalypse scenario, it's banned.

lovely.

oh, and the select few big tough yanks who feel obligated to bag out Australia on the interwebnetz just because the topic contains something that's banned in Australia, we were 'founded' by British colonists, and our indigenous peoples have been here for tens of thousands of years. Just remember you idiots came from colonists too. Convicts were BROUGHT here in the 1700s and 1800s. spare us all the convict bullshit hypocrisy just because you can't remember that your own country was once crawling with exiled criminals too.
I don't think "lol, Australia was a penal colony" is as serious business as you're making it sound, but I am going to point out that one of the two locations (out of America and Australia) has everything including nature trying to kill you, and leave it at that.
Have to to bite here ok so American has Bears we have Kangaroos hmmm ok American has mountian lions we have rock wallibys hmmm ok American has a big problem with its huge left over slave population feeling like they are still treated differnely we have on going issues with our natives hmmmm 3-0 so far want me to keep going mate.
That's not what he/she meant I'm thinking. But uh, yeah, can't really remember if I posted here or not. Any way, sorry. I think L4D2 is going to be fun.
And im thinking you dont do much thinking.
I'm*^ Don't*^

Please, don't go there.

Australia's not weird, Australia isn't quirky and crazy and overprotective. It's one man. Michael Atkinson.

Quote from Wikipedia "Atkinson is responsible for maintaining Australia's status as one of the few Western countries without a "Mature" rating for video games"
Well we can't also blame Michael Atkinson for the internet censor, the water shortage and the lack of nuclear power. Clearly there's something wrong with the country itself.
It's not our country, its just that every politician in Australia has the same ideals, regardless of what political party they're in. They're all exactly the same, Labour, Liberal, whatever. So its not our fault, we elect the best people out of a terrible bunch.

So wait, we allow both volumes of Hostel, a movie series that is about nothing but a house for snuff enthusiasts to get a giant stiffy and demonstrating with great detail how said stiffy getters can best get the desired screams of agony but a game about blasting 'humans infected with a rabies-like virus' gets refused classification?

Can we please at least have consistency?

Jeez, you must have a lot of time on your hands! Instead of poking fun at the people who are merely applying the legislation written by their forefathers, why not do something constructive to further the case of the R18+ classification for games????? After having read the profiles of the acb members I think they have a decent cross section of the community represented. Who would you suggest would be better to do such a job? Gamers? Please!
