L4D2 DLC - to paraphrase ZP, now actually a car registration plate.

Felt the same way about the old survivor team merely "appearing" as one person did above. Did like though that they provided covering fire in the generator area during the finale.

As for the campaign, can't say I was too grabbed by it but there were some memorable moments. Did like the zombie wedding, especially when I accidentally activated the sound system because I thought it was an item footlocker :S

Also loved the crescendo run at the end of chapter two, crash landing in a wide-open sewer was nervewracking enough to start off (think the wide open sewers are some of the creepiest areas of L4D2, so I'm glad they made an extended one for this campaign).

Finale was so much better than Dead Centre's one, while DC had you essentially running in stacks of straight lines trying to grab cans, TP's wide open area makes it a great war of attrition, especially when trying to get them with two tanks gunning for you.

Looking forward to seeing the DLC for L4D which shows the death of Bill, although I can't help but wonder how they're going to pull off a canon death during playtime using the gameplay mechanics they've established so far. I'm hoping to God it isn't a cutscene, but I think Valve are a lot smarter than to do that.

REALLY pissed.
Like, so pissed that I'm probably never going to buy that DLC.

It's just... To painful to watch.

What the hell Valve? WHAT THE HELL?!?!
Why Bill? Of all of the 4 original characters, you had to go and kill my favorite.

WHY!?

Thats not true, it can be an acronym even if it doesn't spell anything.

Ex: FYVYKBYHB

Fuck You Valve, You Killed Bill You Heartless Bastards.
See?
You know "The Passing" is free, right? I got it automatically on Thursday when I started up the game on my PC.

I am sorry, but I really don't feel affected by Bill's death at all. Whenever I turned on the original L4D, I never felt scared or tense from the levels, I just felt like I was fighting my way through some very good Romero clone of a movie.

And why do people always talk like it is a good thing to take his gun away from him? If he lies there empty handed, then he loses the warrior inside of him. He might have died running or begging! Although I don't as I said, feel that strongly about it.

The reason for the majority of my disillusionment of the game is probably that I play it mostly with one other friend on splitscreen. We both tend to pick Francis and Louie, so AI Bill becomes the laughing stock of the group, always getting killed first if the action even began to get heavy.

Bill died with a gun in his hands fighting his greatest fight against his strongest enemy, for the good of the people he had been able to love. I don't think he would have had it any other way.

There are servers with 8 player co-op, but it's two of each model.

I didn't like this new campaign. But on the other hand, I loved Crash Course, so I shouldn't really complain about the quality of the DLC.
How awesome would it have been to have 8 man co-op with the original survivors and the new ones. That's what I was picturing.

I was expecting more, I'll admit. The campaign seems a bit... shallow. Full of wasted opportunities. But whatever, I'm sure the L4D1 DLC will enlighten us more.

I also found it weird that they seem to be taking his death so nonchalantly. But I guess that, in a warzone, you have to put your emotions aside for the while. Am I right on that assumption?

Either way:

Step 1 : Open 'Save Me Some Sugar' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JJ7LPAm7f4E

Step 2 : Go to http://www.video2mp3.net/index.php

Step 3 : Paste the url, select high quality and press convert

Step 4 : Download it, play it , put it on your mp3
if your in a band, play this in a gig

Step 5 : ????

Step 6 : Tribute, profit, manly tears

I feel that the way Bill died didn't serve him right, I mean, going out lying down in a pool of your own blood? C'mon Valve, you can do better.

Like make him go down with a hell of a bunch of zombies around him, with his barrel still smoking and a cigarette in his mouth.

That would've made me just be proud of Valve.

Killing off Bill is booty! I always play as Bill because his laugh is EPIC! FYI, a 21 gun salute is 7 rifles firing in unison 3 times, not 21 single shots.

Not only was it the voice actor thing, but Bill was getting old, it made sense for him to be the one to sacrifice himself.

All good zombie games/movies need a canon death

It made sence for him to die cos he was the kinda guy who would die for somethin'. He'll be missed. The others just didn't seem like the hero types.

Quick question does this mean that anyone who chooses to be Bill in the L4D DLC will have to die.

It does suck that they had to kill of Bill (har har), but there's something about someone needing to do something and get left behind at the same time, and Bill was the most likely candidate.

Still, I have 2 rues in The Passing.
1) Do the final chapter with Bill's gun.
2) Kill anyody desecrating Bill's corpse.
With my luck I always do the final with Bill's M16. I usually get that.

Bill was my favourite character, he was just the kind of guy I found likable.

I looked it up and... we're both wrong. I hereby call a draw but admit to being a dick.

Good job it's free then.

Argh, I really want to buy L4D2 (£13 on Steam at the minute!) but every time I say I'll get it some other game comes up and I buy that instead.

They killed Bill

that means they need to put in another character. I suggest Keith.

First, though, I'd like to take a moment and talk about the fact that I really like the campaign/mission added to L4D2. The energy of the characters is different, and the tone/atmosphere of the map is entirely (or mostly I think) different from the almost upbeat and not so scary at all that normally pervades the other missions. I believe, like my roommate that the atmosphere and tone of the original Left 4 Dead was far more tense. I wish I could provide specific examples, but the sad truth is that this kind of thing is very difficult to qualify.
It's set during the fucking daylight! what other example could you possibly need?

I am impressed, first, that I felt that over a character, but I'm also left with the question: What the Hell, Valve? Bill was my favorite character partly because he totally reminded me of a certain badass English professor at my college. And now he's dead.
Check out my avatar and join the club.
I WAS Bill. I always led the team, I always distributed medkits and pills and I occasionally pulled them out of shit when they stepped in one ankle too deep. Who the hell are they going to use in future Left 4 Dead DLC's now?
On a side note: Valve did have problems with Jim French (The voice of Bill) with the Crash Course DLC as well.

I agree with you, OP, this campaign had a good feel to it, and bringing in the wedding scene, the music, and the pouring rain all heightened the emotional depth of a map where we'd see an actual death. I loved the visuals. Finally being back in a town was great, and took me right back to L4D1. Very nostalgic.
Agreed. It feels like a sort of best of both worlds arrangement. You have the southern look, but the 'lightning bolt lights up a dark alleyway while the rain pours' sorta feel.
It also looks funny when you mention nostalgia when the game is barely a year and a half old, but I get what you mean. :p

Like someone wrote The Passing as a fanfic, "DUR HURR I LUVS THAT ZOEY CHICK MAN OTP OTP".
Ellis always was comic relief and I do believe that it's nice to hear something other than "Keith Keith Keith" once in a while. That and "Do you know what suck the heads means?". I swear I almost regret playing the demo so many times.

We all knew the original survivors were going to appear, but... that's all they did. Appear. I suppose I was expecting more than that.
Too right. I was hoping for a sort of a parallel run through the campaign with the two teams helping each other here and there. (Turn a valve, push a button).

Most of my friends said they felt it was way too short, but I found the length totally comfortable.
The length was okay, but for the time spent in development I was disappointed overall. either a more deliberate game mode or better interaction with the survivors or moar lvlz would've made the DLC much much better.
That and Jim French's voice work. I love that laugh.

Weird thing is he always held the AK-47 in my games.

It could, quite possibly be because Bill was the fan favourite from Left 4 Dead. The only one to get an emotional connection with his death, cause truly, if it was Zoe who wouldn't t-bag that corpse?
