Now comes the question. If you can make money from an idea, does that mean it is the right thing to do so?

On a slightly related matter next month there is a "Twilight day" at the cinema where I work. All employees are encouraged (read: forced) to get into the spirit of the event by dressing up, or participating in the fun and games. Therefore I shall go into work wearing...

I would call in sick that day or perhaps quit.
And pass up a chance to piss off Twilight fans? Since I work there I can throw people out if they cause trouble.

Am i the only one that thinks it could be decent if they only base it on the vampires?
Like not take the story but let us play as as vampire? Think about they have super strength, speed, and are near indestructible, if they just made an original story, with better characters and kept the kind of powers it would probably make a decent hack n slash game

So pretty much have every cheat enabled from the word go?

Doesn't sound decent, it sounds boring as hell.

They should do it. It'd probably sell on the Wii. Especially if they made you control your character using the wii fit board, so that all those 40 year old women who bought it then got bored of it would feel like they've got their money's worth.

im stunned no one has done this yet. they are looking at huge piles of money and just ignoring it. whether or not it would indeed be a pile of crap (i have no doubts that it would be), it would still make a fuckton of money.

I think the reason may be that nothing of the source material would really make a good game?

Unless it was one of those disney movie games... you know, where you just walk through the movie, and the boring parts become convoluted minigames.

Yeah... that's a great idea.

I think "potential dollar" analysis is... well... just that, sure, there's potential dollars there; wether or not they are worth the effort or if it conceivable to reach that potential is another thing.

Why.... just WHY.....
This is the most retarded idea in the entire universe!!!
Just think, a Star Trek: First Contact-like group of aliens are searching earth to find if it is intellectually capable of first contact of alien life... and then a Twilight game is made, and the first thing the aliens say is "A Twilight game, how retarded! This planet is incapable of advanced alien technology and ideas. Let's just give up hope... they'll never learn!"

There's only one thing to say when thinking about a Twilight game, Twilight: Modern Warfare 2.
The horror.
Damn, why'd you have to say that, I had forgotten all about this until now.

As a gamer AND a fan of twilight (i say fan not fangirl since i'm not obsessive with it) I have to agree. it wouldn't work very well with the twin arch stories and if they did make it remotely interesting it would proabably end up as something akin to the harry potter games where it's fun for a playthrough or two but as for storyline it's a bunch of minigames loosly strung together by story aspects and cutscenes. I shutter to imagine it...

To put things into perspective, there have been numerous attempts to do the whole "Modern Romantic Vampire" thing with video games. The two "Vampire The Masquerade" games were pretty personally I like the idea of:

1. a bioshock style FPS where you accidentally get the plane to Forks and get escorted through by Jasper Cullen as you evade the hordes of hormonally maddened teenage girls to confront Edward.

2. a call of cthulhu style adventure where you have to defeat the vampires but don't look at them!

3. a cross-franchise vampire smash bros. with Alucard, Edward, Spike et al.

Snipped my own quoting.

I don't think a parody or satire is what they are going for.

However I personally thought of a game where you get to play an emergency driver in town whose job it is to get Bella to the hospital every time something happens. You know how like in the movie there is that one much-mocked scene where she almost got hit by a car (but didn't) and they rushed her to the hospital and gave her a private room? :p

Given that everyone loves Bella, you could get dispatches like "OMG, Bella spilled her coffee she didn't burn herself, but almost did" at which point you have to get your ambulance out, turn on the lights, and go speeding through town without a care for collateral damage as you run over pedestians and cause 40 car pileups... which nobody cares about because IT'S BELLA!.

At higher difficulty levels you might have to rush Edward's stalker sense. He wants to lurk creepily in the closet of her hospital room (or in the hallway or whatever) but it's awkward if he gets there before you do, so you wind up having to get there, and get Bella to the hospital before Edward so they can make the scene properly....

Okay, okay I put a ridiculous amount of thought into that. Still it's every bit as good as some of those Disney/Pixar adaptions. Hmmm, maybe some game designer will read this and offer me money to use my idea.... :p

Twilight dating sim. It would be so easy. It doesn't need to be elaborate or well-thought-out in any way - just take a bunch of movie stills and string them together with a series of well-placed clicks. If you want to add a little interactivity (not that there's a point with this audience) you could even make some completely irrelevant dialogue options, each a more mangled contrivance of crappy metaphor and amateur description than the last.
Your market won't care how bad the critics say it is - it doesn't stop them liking the books and movies.

I could even see myself getting behind this project, making loads of cash, changing my name and moving to another country to escape my irate friends, and committing suicide out of shame some years later.

A happier prospect is the notion of a Twilight spoof game - the same sort of dating-sim stuff with much more humorous text.

Past movie tie in games say no.
I can't imagine a Twilight game would be the best ever though.

Yeah plus the story isn't all that compelling and original anyway. Rhythm action vampires/werewolves? Ew.
