Kind of my point.Flying Dagger said:I've seen both movies and whilst they aren't terrific, they weren't terrible. People just seem to dislike them due to a problem with the fanbase. As someone who gets on well with teenage girls (three guesses on why i've seen the films...) I find the films alright, right up until people start going OMG EDWARD.theultimateend said:I don't think people have a problem with Twilight itself.Flying Dagger said:EA could have just released one of their baseball games in fast forward with new models...
Though you could EASILY GET success by getting stepheny meyer to write a story surrounding the earlier life of edward and make it into a game Heavy Rain style.
To be honest I don't see the fuss around twilight, sure the movies aren't that good, but you also have to choose to go and see them. why protest something that makes people happy...
They have a problem with other better titles that would have had a more profound impact on society for decades that are ignored because it.
Sex sells, which is cool, but most people aren't angry that sex sells, they are (at least I assume) angry because there are so many amazing stories and universes out there that get lost for possibly forever because of our desire to watch shallow pretty people possibly boink each other.
Not to go all geeky, but its why many people got fiercely upset when Firefly ended because of Joe Millionare basically dominating the news and airways (it also was cheaper to make so fox said fuck firefly).
You had a story with diverse amazing characters in a beautiful universe overshadowed by some attractive asshat and a bunch of shallow women.
.
But even then it's the fact that they are going on about him that is annoying, not the films itself.
I also took a girl to see see a film - on a date, and was planning on seeing 2012, but she decided the ONLY film she wanted to see was New Moon... As soon as we got into our seats, she turns to me and admits she hasn't seen the first one. AT WHICH POINT I HAVE TO EXPLAIN THE PLOT OF TWILIGHT TO HER.
(he's a vampire and she fancies him.)
They are in no way exemplary. Which is absolutely fine! I'm not demanding perfection. However they are getting the the kind of coverage that one would expect a King novel or the second coming of Tolkein to have.
I just dislike when I see mediocre writers getting insane coverage when astoundingly talented people are left on the sidelines because they wouldn't pander to the sticky zone.
That, I admit, is the 'elitist' in me being a douche. I'm just a whore for learning and feel that it is an important part of progress culturally and economically. There is little to expand upon literately from twilight. I highly doubt any of her creations are going to go off to define an era or anything.
Then again...some women do think she invented Vampires and Werewolves...
The more I talk the more I'm losing my original point. Which quite simply is, they aren't a monstrosity against nature, but they don't deserve the recognition they have garnered. Again going back to my hatred for reality TV and all the quality television (an oxymoron more often than not) that was lost and is continually lost because of it.
You do not sell something on its merits anymore, you sell it by marketing.
