Quoted these because it ties into my online experience as a female gamer.

There are two types of flirty nerd guys that I encounter. The ones who try way too hard to be chivalrous and cautiously step around every move that you do, and then the dickweed ones who open with "chicks can't play games lol" and proceed to bash that tired little meme into a bloody stump.

I get hit on daily online. Sometimes it's the tolerable kind of flirting, which is at least friendly. Usually it's the "lol show me your tits if you're really a girl, but I bet you have a dick because no chick can play like us" type flirting that I have to deal with, though, because the "chicks don't play games" crowd spends a bizarrely large amount of time shadowing chicks.

Mr.K, that's actually entirely untrue. There was a gallop poll back in...2009, I think? Anyway, a gallop poll which said that 97% of 12-18 year olds are gamers. There's not much else out there in the way of research on who plays games, but just looking at that demographic....unless there is a vast majority of men in society (which there isn't, there's more females than males), it's utterly false.

Most women just hide their gender online to avoid "LOL GIRLS CAN'T PLAY" idiots, or the aforementioned flirting.
i was always in the so what if its a girl kinda crowd. I know i can be a asshole online but i am a asshole to men and women. If your on my team i will talk to any girl like they are one of my boys ( seeing as a i mostly play with clanmates on both psn and pc). Both clans have/had female members that were never treated any different. I expect the piss poor actions of the 12-17 crowd but the sheer amount of 18+ is crazy to me. I just don't get it.

I flirted with a girl online, but that was only after we were already on the related topics. :p

Honestly, for multiplayer game factor? The similarities between guys in bars and guys on Xbox live leads me to believe there's just a lot of drunk assholes on Xbox live.

It does get them laid. And it's very sad.

Even if you get turned down 50 times, you'll still find the one that will say 'Yes' if you keep shamelessly plugging away. Disappointment, I am full of it.
Wait a minute, people get laid even on the internet from shameless plugging and belittling of people?
I can understand if you're in... you know, high school but on teh magikal interwebz?
I thought that kinda stuff wasn't really tolerated. Just expected. I get hit on all the time by those annoying little assholes who call me "slut" or "*****" or "****" because I'm not all over them.
I must just be sticking to the "safe" parts of the internet. >.>
Yes, being an asshole online gets them laid in real life.

I had a friend who did that very often. Damien. There were women, adult women who would actually fly to where we lived just to nail him. Or so that he could nail them. I never actually found out what exactly they did, but I never really wanted to know. Damien was probably the world's biggest asshole, though. He was kind of the school bully, and we were only friends after we beat the shit out of each other one day because I was tired of him...then we somehow ended up as friends. Don't know how that happened to be honest.

...Anyway, yeah, some people are just fuckin' scary.

A few times. One time quite heavily. But if they are 'those' types of penis-havers I've noticed that;

If you aren't doing well: Troll about kitchens and sandwiches.
If you are doing great: Flirt and/or heavy sexual innuendos.

But most of the time with my sense of humor and behavior they think I'm a guy until they actually hear differently. I just try to play the game with as little talking as possible to avoid grief, whether it's about how well I may or may not be doing that day or the fact that I have a vagina.

Usually works in my favor.

Then you, sir, are the sorta person I'd probably game with. I think it's an unfortunate combination of fear-of-women coupled with desperation-to-look-cool and sprinkled lightly with internet-memes-are-funny that causes adults to behave like 5 year olds around female gamers. They think it'll make 'em look cool to their bros, they have an innate fear that a woman will judge them so they need to act as though they feel superior to women and they want people to think they're funny by regurgitating out tired old memes.

It's pretty sad, really ._. That being said, I do enjoy ripping those sorts a whole new asshole x3 Otherwise I tend to hang out with gamers that fall into your elusive category, and they aren't the ones flirting :p

[small]Which is a shame, because they have the best hopes of getting a girl online with their ordinary behavior[/small]

Nahh, I've never had many people hit on me online. I think it's because to them I just sound like a 12-year-old kid or something. But I can empathize; it's really creepy when some dude calls me "sweetie" or something and asks for a rematch. Then I just quit.

haha. Well truth be told i met my girl online in a voice chat 6 years ago (gaming one) and was chilling and we started talking outside of the room. So i did get a girl i guess by not being a dick haha

The thing is i am 25 and been with the same girl for 6 years. Not looking to get all horned up while playing black ops. I just want to chill. Have a couple drinks and have some laughs. My choice of party members reflects that very much so haha. Almost everyone is over 25 and married/ in a long term relationship. So its just people having fun. Which is what gaming is about imho

I... wow. o_O
I'm not sure whether someone as stupid as that gets laid for being an asshole to everyone or if the fact that women not only want to have sex with him, but spend money to fly and do so is worse.

Humanity... I am disappoint.

Not to overuse memes but no facepalm is worthy enough for this moment. Not even a Falcon Facepalm [http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_gWQaU40PH24/TQrObKFFJAI/AAAAAAAAJ70/Th-pPu9Y2VQ/s1600/Falcon_Facepalm_by_Tradanbattlan%255B1%255D.jpg] is worthy.
Maybe this fits [http://images.cheezburger.com/completestore/2011/4/11/cac7f9d9-e435-463d-b4ac-3123b8b1eb8d.jpg] but I don't know >.<

I find it creepy when guys hit on girls online that live on the other side of the earth in a alternation dimension where Dinosaurs still rule the earth. Long distance relationships suck ass and are pretty pointless (I'm not saying they can't work they can if you knew them then they moved away.)

Now, GIRLS on the other hand DO play games. Case in point, My girlffriend.
Either you were unable to see that this guy was joking, which I refuse to believe, or you posted that simply to show off:
a.) How liberal, modern and pro-women you are
b.) That you have a girlfriend

If you couldn't see he was joking... what!?
Course I knew he was joking. Hence my joke with the chick picture.

I just have a very low opinion of most internet users, and I'm sure there's at least one idiot who DIDN'T see he was joking, so I felt compelled to post the obvious.

Was it a bit stupid of me to do that? Yup. Now can we move on?

It's simple supply and demand. Gamer guys are like 90% of the gaming population (not including casual games ok) the rest are the 10% females. Now gamer girls, while not only rare are also highly prized, like bar of gold. Hen's teeth are rare but of no value.

Thus when a guy finds a girl online they're like "OMG!!! Must try and flirt with girl....." and more often then not they epically fail. (which is partly why they play MMORPGs all day long instead of going out and meeting a real life girl)
Actually studies have found it's like 65/35, but most female gamers don't voice chat, use character names and avatars that make them seem male, and other similar actions specifically to avoid that scenario.
yeah 65 to 35 is still a huge gap. And as u mentioned girls not advertising the fact they're girls means an even bigger gap.
Also keep in mind for the sake of polling accuracy, most females don't admit to gaming because it's a "guy thing," but still play.

Well statistics are all neat and shinny but the interpretation is always questionable, the word "gamer" can cover a wide array of people who have at some point in life played a video game.

But here we are looking at a more specific multiplayer demographic mostly with voice chat, now here are mainly shooters and RTS games where the male/female ratio from my observation is about 100/1(yes there are more undercover ones but they don't count in the whole "getting hit on" debacle)
Then you consider that girls get hit on in the real world alot to begin with and it's a ratio 1/1, multiply that real world mating ritual silliness with x100 and... well you get the multiplayer community.
Or to stick with the short version, desert - water - everyone wants it

I've been hit on by guys... and I'm a guy. Maybe I shouldn't play females on a roleplaying server...

Yeah that's what I was saying basically. If your dating someone then they move away it can work. But its unlikely to work if you are just meeting them online.
