The redemption process is fair. And, if you haven't figured out how to post and not violate the Code of Conduct after getting 4 warnings, probation, a 3-day suspension and then a 2-week suspension, then perhaps this isn't the forum for you to be posting in.
So this wasn't the forum for Vault101 to be posting in? She fit this community like a glove. A lot of genuinely decent members (IMO) have been banned so I find this viewpoint hard to believe. As far as I can tell the only thing that made Vault101 different than anyone else was that she posted a lot more frequently. That seems like an odd thing to punish someone for.

In the end, it's really simple. Before you post a comment, proofread it. If you think there's a possibility it might violate the CoC, delete it and either try again or simply move on.
Seriously? You make it sound like it's always blatantly obvious when you post something in violation, it isn't at all. All three of my violations came as a complete surprise to me, even after I found out what they were for. And I've read the code of conduct page several times, I know the rules. I've even PMed numerous members before to warn them about posts that might get them into trouble. When it's happened to you it's hard to watch it happen to other's as well. So many noobies fall for the low content posts.

I honestly wouldn't have guessed the post that got Vault banned was bad either. I know I've seen far worse that have gone untouched.

I can tell you don't post as often as I do, and have no (current) warnings, so it seems odd for you to be dictating this stuff to me like that.

Wait, what? (Does double take). Holy crap, he's still alive. I never thought I'd see the day. That's a hell of a resurrection spell.

As for the infraction system, eh, I've had ups and downs with it. I think that the amnesty period would be better dropped to three months rather than six. Having cumulative infractions build up, even if it has been months since the last slip up leads to the kind of situations we get with Vault101. The infraction system is great for stopping frequently hostile posters, since they rack up very quickly. I just feel that infractions stay with you too long. One slip up here or there, such as a low content post or some mild ribbing that some take offense to, shouldn't be the reason to permaban.

If it has been something like five and a half months, and you've been on your best behavior, only for one derp moment to kill you, it kinda hurts. That is why I feel that a faster amnesty time, for minor stuff at least, would be better than waiting half a year for your health bar to regenerate ONE piece.

I disagree. These forums don't have any need a disrespectful user that posts an image of a crying child in response to someone else [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/jump/9.403566.16681869].
As far as I can tell the only thing that made Vault101 different than anyone else was that she posted a lot more frequently. That seems like an odd thing to punish someone for.
She wasn't punished for posting often. She was punished for 8 violations of the CoC.

Seriously? You make it sound like it's always blatantly obvious when you post something in violation, it isn't at all.
To me, it is. Whenever I write a post that I think might attract mod wrath, I follow my own advice. Either try to reword it so it's safe, or I simply let the matter drop. If I can't make a point without being rude, then I reckon it's not a point worth making.

I know I've seen far worse that have gone untouched.
Even if you think others may have gotten away with worse, it doesn't mean you will get away with less.
I can tell you don't post as often as I do, and have no (current) warnings, so it seems odd for you to be dictating this stuff to me like that.
You're right, I don't post as often as others. Mostly because I lurk, rarely have things to say and am not active in user groups.
But, you make it seem like violating the CoC is inevitable when you post often. I know for a fact that's false.

Also, I've seen this scenario play out several times, a popular user's forum health fills up, they get banned and others say it's unfair.
All I can do is echo what the mods say, which I just so happen to completely agree with, it is fair. The ban was earned.

I don't even have words... uh

Okay, fair enough. So Zeel, were you being like... for real?

I guess more importantly, are you done talking about... you know... that.

Anyway, welcome back, I have a feeling things will get interesting.

I know how you feel...

Soviet Heavy does bring up a good point about the 6 month health regen, it is a little long but it is a very good deterrent and better than the old system.

Okay, but I've gotten 3 warnings, and none were for being "rude".

Low content posts, mentioning the T word, revealing that you've pirated stuff before, these and more can land you a warning. Sometimes things that are said jokingly can get you into trouble too because the mods can't always tell you aren't being serious.

I'm guessing you're already aware of all this, but if not you should know, you do have to be pretty careful.

I'm not saying it's inevitable, but your odds certainly increase if you post more often. That's basically a statistical fact.

Completely avoiding violations is certainly possible, even with a high post count, but we all make mistakes, we're human beings.

I remember there was that Max guy (can't remember the full username) when I first started on here. He was a writer as I recall, and he had a tonne of posts. Then he got banned for...something, I remember he was there one day then he wasn't. Not sure if people lamented, back a few people mentioned him over time, the memories aren't clear, it was a while ago.

HA! Vault101 got banned? Oh man, the irony of this is too sweet for me. I'm gonna get cavities.

I give it a week! :D

OT: Shit, Hammeroj was finally banned? Surprised it took so long. He was very aggressive in his posts.

I miss Danyal. R&P just hasn't been the same without him.

I also miss Sober Thal's drunken late night rants. The irony in that statement.

Mythrandia. I miss Mythrandia. Best posts ever. :(

Karutomaru was great until he decided that Capcom was the Devil. Yeesh.

Captcha: labour of love. Hey! Dis is 'Murka! You kin take yur superfluous 'u' an' shove it!

I am somewhat new to forums in general, with the escapist being my first trip into a actual forum and it always weirds me out how quickly these "ecosystems" (lame description, but its 4 A.M. so I am going with it. Besides, sounds better than "microcosm".) form, complete with celebrities, rivalries, friendships, memorials for fallen comrades and the like. I have always thought of the internet more in Yahtzee's terms of being like throwing notes in bottles into oceans made of notes in bottles, so it seems strange that communities with recognizable members could form. Interesting thing to be a part of, glad I am. Vault101 is the only one I ever really saw at all.

All of which are covered by the CoC, which we all had to agree to in order to register.

I'm not saying it's inevitable, but your odds certainly increase if you post more often. That's basically a statistical fact.
I disagree. Violating the CoC gets you penalized. Not violating the CoC doesn't.

This is a matter of content, not volume.

but we all make mistakes, we're human beings.
Agreed. That's why we have seven chances to make mistakes and learn from them.

However, if someone fails to learn from their actions after committing seven infractions, then they have earned and completely deserve the ban that will soon follow.

Whadduh....how....but I thought....are you.....is this....

What membrane did I just pass through to end up in this alternate reality?

Seriously, as soon as I saw the name, it was like I was watching a combination sumo gymnast twisting while somersaulting through the air and seeing all of the errant turds fly out of the ass end due the amount of G-forces that his body shouldn't be experiencing at that moment, yet unable to turn my gaze away, knowing the spectacle that will be the impending catastrophic conclusion would unfold before my very eyes.

Uh, anyways...welcome back. I'm now left wondering how many others will be surprisingly resurrected...

Oh yeah, and uh, I remember some of them, may they rest well. Until they, too, become like zombie Jesus...

EDIT: And the sumo gymnast has hit the ground, face first, with a resulting THUD that would put most bombs to shame. All bones could be heard snapping at the moment of impact and its body let loose a torrent of excrement from almost every orifice as the finale now comes to pass.

Re-Goodbye, Zeel. Thou shalt be remembered. Somewhat.

what happened to vault? I wasn't around when she kicked the bucket.
Vault put up a picture displaying a crying baby because she didn't like someones attitude with the gaming industry.

I don't miss Vault and most of these posters at all. They start out alright but they all seem to become very opinionated and rub it in, so they get what they deserve.

Seven infractions over the course of over 20k posts? Let's see how many mistakes you make after so many posts before you judge others, eh?
Not an excuse. You have all the time in the world to think about your reply before posting. Also, you can send a post to the mods first to see if it's alright with them.
