Hello all, at the end of summer I will be hosting my second LAN party, and it is an all weekend affair. Quite simply, I want some tips to make this one more fun. Any snack suggestions, specific games, or any tips at all you want to offer are welcome here.

On the flipside, if you are planning a LAN party, feel free to ask for advice, I will offer tips and advice from my experience to help make yours better.

I used to attend, plan and occasionaly host LAN parties on a monthly basis years ago;

My golden nugget of wisdom: make sure you have a base line set of games everyone has to have installed BEFORE showing up. I can't count the hours we wasted doing installations on people's computers.

The games really depend on what kind of games you guys play, doesn't it?
And take a 5-minute break every hour , i can't tell you the number of times someone or the other got sick due to excessive playing.
Get a bowl for each player and fill them with snacks like cheetos or something that you can grabwithout paying a lot of attention.

Nachos and cheetos I have stayed away from because they leave residue on your fingers that transfers to controllers. It is an xbox LAN party, so installation is not a problem, and any games people do not have I will be renting

Yes, but that is more time away from the game. The main focus on snacks is to be able to eat while still playing

This, my friends used to do lan parties (Something I could never partake in due to certain psychological conditions) and they had this to say:
They get real boring
You're best bet is to have a few new games that no one has played and have them installed the day before you start, otherwise it seems it turns into a bunch of people doing what they do at home in a group.

The LAN I had two months ago everyone had a blast. Mostly Halo, but we broke up the monotony with board games, tekken and ssbb tournaments, etc. No one was bored

For snacks I'd say just some hot chips, chicken nuggets, maybe pop corn chicken from KFC? sure they're oily but if you use some paper towels and dry em off they should be good enough to eat and not leave any residue on your keyboards and such.
Though most of the food would depend on how many people are attending...

We have LAN-parties about 4 times a year, the last one was at my place a few weeks ago. We're an all PC group by the way, but most tips should still apply.

All weekend LAN, Friday Noon until Sunday 8PM-ish.

Games:
HL2: DM
COD4: MW
L4D/L4D2
CIV 5
TTD
Minecraft
some flavour of the week/month/year games

Snacks:
Chips/crisps
Peanuts

Drinks:
Lotsa beer (about a case each)
Lotsa coffee
Coke (for me, I tend to not drink)

At least 1 bad movie (this time we watched Iron Sky)

Food:
Take-out (pizza, chinese, shoarma, greek)
Nuke-able lunchfoods (Bapao, Pre-made burgers)

And most importantly have fun :)
