Real time strategy games, what require people to work together. Company of heroes, sins of a solar empire, etc. The best setup I went to was a friends house. Two rooms, 5 pcs in each, 5v5 sins of a solar empire, epic win

I'm sure a fair few people at the LAN party would vouch for it. Its not that big a download (by today's standards) and if you stick it on a LAN file server everyone can get it quick.ChocoCake said:
Its based in WW2, 6 maps, axis vs allies, class based (soldier, medic, engineer, field ops, covert ops). It doesn't take itself seriously at all, its not realistic, and you can guarantee several hilarious moments each game.
It was originally developed as the expansion to Return to Castle Wolfenstein, but the project was scrapped and Splash Damage hammered together what they had built so far and released it free online, still gets a lot of players online today despite being more than 5 years old.

This would be a good choice, especially if you get some good mods. I still have a special place in my LAN game library for Starsiege: Tribes, which if you get a good mod can be one of the best games at the party, especially if it is a classic game LAN. I recommend Shifter K, that's my personal favorite mod.Lukeje said:

Soldat is another fun and free multiplayer game. Awesome for late light LAN party silliness.
BF1942 is old enough to be undemanding and is a great LAN party game.
Also, Half Life mods are great. Try Counter Strike, Natural Selection, Day of Defeat, Team Fortress Classic, even Riccochet is great late at night when everyone is tired and silly. The what's great about Half-Life is that you get a ton of variety and you only need one game and a bunch of free mods.

I go to a lan nearly once a month and apart from what has already been said Unreal tournament 2004 with the airbuccaneers mod is probably one of the best lan games about. http://ludocraft.oulu.fi/airbuccaneers/ Basically its pirates in hot air ballons. Each team gets a base with a handful of smaller airballons and then on some levels a large galleon style air ballon. You are able to pilot the ballons and also man the cannons. If you're crazy you can even attempt to board the other teams ballon and fight it out with your sword. The object is basically to blow the crap out of the other team. The battle take place over swamps and water so that you have to keep on your ballons.
I would also give another recommendation for AVP 2 but I advise playing it in the alien hunt mode(can't remember the exact name). Basically you all start off as marines in a free for all fight and whoever gets fragged first is the alien. The marines now work in a team to try to hold out against this one alien. Whoever the alien manages to kill will become an alien also, this continues until there is only one marine left. Its a great mode in the game and always a good laugh.

If you can get UT2004 working on those PCs, you may as well abandon the regular game in favour of air buccaneers. It is unbelievably good fun.Ralackk said:
