Laptop help.

Hey, I'm not very good with laptops and I've been experiencing a problem with mine.

It will just randomly turn off. It has nothing to do with overheating, as all the windows are open, and my room is very breezy.

It did it during the Nintendo E3 conference, although I didn't miss much as it was during the fail demonstration of Zelda. Does anyone know the cause of this problem?

*EDIT* It's not the battery running out, it's been full many of the times it's switched off.

How do you know it's not overheating?
There could be a busted fan which means zero air-circulation.
Because it really sounds like over-heating.

You really haven't given us any information to work with, it could be one of hundreds of things.
For a start letting us know what model the laptop is and list its specs.
Maybe list the programs you had running, run a virus scan, just cause your windows are open doesn't mean its not over heating, if you have it on your lap dust and fibers can build up in the fans causing all sorts of problems.

Edit: what are you doing each time it crashes/turns off?

Well, the laptop doesn't feel like it's hot. It's overheated before, and it was boiling.

If it's dusty, it'll overheat. Same if you're using it in bed (on a pillow) or actually on your lap.

Check for virus's or spyware - some of 'em will make a computer shut down/reboot.

Be sure to check that there is no problems with your battery, and that the display is actually correct. Maybe keep it plugged into the mains, cause batteries will stop holding so much charge, and it'll run out VERY fast.

Oh, don't worry. I think it was a virus, and avast is getting rid of it now as one has been detected.

This could be a factor, how old is the battery, cause most only last about a year or 2 before they have crap all power storage.

About a year old, so it should be fine. It lasts about 2 and a half hours before I need to plug it back into the charger.

You'd be surprised there are viruses out there that completely fry hardware.

I think how many cells is a factor, too.
Oh, also, check that the battery drivers (they exist) are up to date, 'cause they might be giving incorrect infos ^_^

Wow, I know loads about software on computers, but nothing about hardware. Learn something new everyday.

I had a laptop that did this about a year ago.
The heat sink had become detached from the CPU.
