Well, I can't tell much, cause I don't know what happened.
It's killed MS Security Center, and my old AVG has disappeared.
I'm running Vista (I know, that's part of the problem.) on Safe Mode.
The virus seems to keep running a program called "U1", and it takes up all my CPU.
Since I'm in Safe Mode, I can no longer run Task Manager, so I've lost my only way to see what it's doing.
I'm re-installing AVG, but I need something more effective.
Any help is lovely.

KILL IT WITH FIRE11!!!1

But seriously, this seems like something where it's best to just leave your laptop and get it looked at by the experts.

If you still have internet access (odds are you do if you're posting this...) use an online scanner instead of a installed one, the online scanner isn't corrupted.

HAH your virus is worse than mine was!

Ahem

OT: Back up your stuff you need and reinstall windows, or hire you very tech minded friend jim round to fix it without a reformat. (Too hard to think of a fix without being there)

Ok, new info, since it crashed again and then Windows told me what the fucker is.
It's called Worm.Win32.NetSky, it has it's own SMTP engine, and is a threat level 5 from 0-5.
Great, my computer is being terminated.
Oh, and reformatting isn't an option.
Neither is reinstalling the OS.

Well, wishing strongly enough will fight the virus. Or having positive thoughts.

...Try downloading a portable Linux on a pendrive, then running an anti-vir. If not, get professional help (you know, where you pay a guy to do the work for you) or... frag the disk.

Assuming you have a backup: format your hard disk and reinstall Windows.
Assuming you don't: Try to obtain a live system, i.e. an OS that boots directly from a CD (most Linux distributions, including Ubuntu, have one), boot from that and backup your data (either on a DVD or a FAT32-formatted removable disk or flash drive). When you're done, refer back to step 1.

Unfortunately, there's no way around this. You could of course try to desinfect your system, but from experience, that usually takes longer than just starting from scratch again, believe me. Also, you'll have a malware-free system afterwards, which no virus cleanup in the world can safely provide.

Oh, and one more thing: When you're done re-installing and have an up-to-date virus scanner running - scan your backup before you put your stuff back on your computer. You never know what might still be in there.

Look for a program called combofix,

You need to DISABLE system restore to use it. Cause any virus worth its 5 star danger rating can hide in there.

If the virus decides to not let combofix run, Try renaming it. Worked for my friend when his computer got infected.

What it does, Is FIX EVERYTHING
it literally combs your computer in a Semi-running state and erases ALL pieces of code that could be malicious.

It can damage certain programs, Those will need to be re-installed. But it leaves your images and video's and documents intact. Its the best option for infections like this, i think.

you can probably find it online. And if the virus is burning up your cpu so that it won't work, Boot it from a disk or something

When you know what it is, a google search of it is your best move.

This [http://www.symantec.com/connect/forums/wormwin32netsky] was the first website I found, looks useful.
