I was always told to never buy a laptop for gaming as they heat up so quickly and very often don't last too long. The only gaming laptops I can think of at the moment are Alienware but rumour has it that they suck a donkey's backside.

If you go onto www.ebuyer.com there is a section which can take you to the gaming laptops/PCs. I imagine most people will tell you to make your own.

Get a laptop for gaming, if you must, the gaming laptops (i.e., ones advertised as such, rather than just ones capable of running games) tend to be overpriced.

If you really want to go down the gaming laptop route... I would just go for something mid range to be honest. Say a 2nd gen i5, 4GB RAM and a mid range GPU (GTX640M/AMD equivalent perhaps?).

Anything top of the line is not worth the cost and often have shorter lifespans than their desktop counterparts for obvious reasons.

If you are absolutely determined for a high end gaming laptop... I would personally avoid Alienware and check out what the high end Asus and MSi models are like.

I could never, ever recommend getting a laptop for gaming; in my opinion, its just not practical. You end up paying for parts that are blown at the the water by comparable Desktop parts, (overpaying, at that) You have no room for upgrades. The battery lifes are relatively crappy so you'll be tethered to a wall while you play anyway. I would recommend getting a decent netbook and then a Gaming Desktop. I know you asked for laptops, but I could never give someone advice on something I believe is a scam.

Go for a high-spec laptop that can play games; stuff like Alienware and Razr that are advertised as 'gaming laptops' are generally overpriced out the wazoo. The best brands in the mainstream market for gaming laptops (in my experience) are companies such as Lenovo and Asus. If you live in the continental United States, Sager do high-spec laptops that you can customise, and have free shipping. Just make sure you get a cooling mat/stand; these work wonders to keep the perennial overheating problem away.

Ignore those who said don't bother as they obviously aren't interested in what you asked for.

The best laptops are usually MSI or Clevo models as they are highly customisable and sold through resellers at bargain prices. BTW these contain Mobile PCI Express Module (MXM) Graphics Cards which CAN be upgraded so long as the Motherboard and CPU support it (just like any desktop).

I currently own a "SkyFire II" which is an MSI GT70 with an i7-3610QM (2.3GHZ Quad-Core) and an NVidia GeForce GTX 670M. Runs Crysis 1&2 on max without any trouble.

Gaming & laptop... Anywho.

Stick to proper brands, like ASUS. None of that overpriced and branded Alienware etc. crap.

Then you only need to take 2 (two) steps:

1. Decide your budget
2. Get the best laptop you can with that

Mine is the HP dv6 Notebook and it cost me around $700. It runs every game I play at 50-60fps.

1.9Ghz 4 core Processor
1.5GB Dual video cards
6 Gigs of RAM (20Gig Paging File)
700GB Hard Drive
1366X768 Max Resolution (VGA and HDMI port to attach 1920X1080 monitors and TV's)

I bought this in September of last year. Hope that gives you some comparisant to new laptops and prices.

General rule of thumb, different makers charge different prices for equal specs. HP would charge $700 for my laptop, but DELL would charge $1300 for a computer of the same specs, while Apple would charge $1800.

IMHO HP and Acer have the best price for higher specs, with Toshiba coming in second. Sony and Dell are rather overprices, and Apple has the worst prices.
1.9ghz isnt good tbh 2.3ghz wud be the minimum imo
