What was your first thought as you watched this trailer?

(A) I hate voice-overs in trailers.
(B) This looks interesting.
(C) I can see her bra straps.

Gone is the older, more confident Lara, and in her place is a younger, less experienced version, who looks like she's in for a rough time if this teaser trailer is anything to go by.
I wonder if there's any coincidence that the publisher is Square Enix and the fact that the experienced, bad ass Lara has been replaced a childish waife who's very first action is to be rescued by a grizzled man. I've got vague recollections on the first FMV in the first Tomb Raider of Lara gunning down wolves while her guide gets munched on. Does this not seem odd?

"Character development"? This is tomb raider, not the oscars. Hot rich lady, steals stuff, shoots things. Get that right and the rest follows.
To be fair, the grizzled old guy only shows up after she's done a remarkable job of getting out of that situation... and then he fails to hang on to her.

Fairly standard action movie cliche. Hero often gets a hand up from a buddy. Indy doesn't always save himself. Mostly, but not always.

I think we can, and should, aim a little higher than "Hot rich lady, steals stuff, shoots things." Besides, as I mentioned, the experienced, bad ass Lara wasn't selling very well.

Wow, quite a few of you have either never caught up with any of the information on the new Tomb Raider or just briefly scanned through them.

1) Game will be based on Lara's progression from "girl with no confidence" to "some resemblance to the woman we have known for years."

2) The man seems to be the father figure/teacher of Lara while she was at school. So dropping her like he did may be killing him inside.

3) Seems like she was expecting to go on a basic adventure like we have seen her do many times before, except **** just happens sometimes.

4) In this storyline/universe both her parents are still alive and kicking. They are both well known adventurers in the world. So i'm just throwing it out there that Lara now has to "step up" as kids would say these days.

5)Promoted as a sandbox/non linear game.

Unfortunately I can't copy/paste my Gameinformer magazine to give more details/proof on the game.

P.S. Lara does not want to live in the shadow of her parents so goes on a "planned" adventure to prove her own individuality. Makes this whole set-up a little more messed up knowing that.

I have a few thoughts on this trailer;

1. My god that is a gorgeous trailer, beautiful everything.
2. This is an interesting direction that they are taking Lara Croft. I am really glad that they've updated her character to a more modest form, and their take on a more adult/matured kind of story with the game. The previous Lara was all show no substance, this one looks like at least an attempt at character.
3. I'm also a bit worried that they're going for a bit too dark of a route. While the previous Lara Crofts had problems, they were all a bit lighthearted in their tales. This one seems to go a bit overboard on the dramatic and edgy side.

Still, whatever happens happens. We'll just have to wait and see how this plays out.

As a proof-of-concept, count me in. I've loved the last few Tomb Raiders, but it's interesting to see a much more grounded take on the mythos.

Why does this franchise still exist? Unless this new installment actually fixes the crap camera and has Lara evolve as a character (not to mention tone back the sexual exploitation of said character), I'm calling it doomed now.

Lara Croft? She's still around? REALLY?? Well, I guess if Uncharted is doing her shtick then she can just do a video game version of Titanic. No, wait, it turned into Castaway. I hope Laura finds a volleyball friend!

Well, hopefully they wont go all "Other M" on this heroine, and really make a good game out of it.
SHE COULD STILL FEEL PIECES OF THE BABY ON HER ARMOR

Anyway, can't say I've ever cared about the Tomb Raider series, and given the series' recent reputation...well, I'm a hell of a cynic. So, although the trailer looks good, I can't say I'm particularly excited about it.

I'm hoping this one will be good, I much prefer this look for Lara then previous games. Sure she's still attractive but they aren't furiously rubbing it in your face like in previous games, which is something I approve of.
That said, can't tell much about the game yet but I'm hoping that this is some kind of reboot. Given that I've never played a previous Tomb Raider game before, it would be nice to start fresh and this is the first one that I've actually found interesting.

I guess we shall see.

Crystal Dynamics have been milking a dead cow (i.e. the Tomb Raider seies).
Square-Enix doesn't know what makes a good game anymore.

BUT

The artwork I?ve seen for this game, and this trailer, have reignited that huge respect I once had for both of these studios. Tossing aside the ?breasts with pistols? image that Lara Croft and the Tomb Raider franchise has been associated with, and moving toward what seems to be a more emotive, gritty, real, survival-adventure experience is the greatest move these studio?s could have ever done. I KNOW Crystal Dynamics will make this a great game (if the Legacy of Kain series is anything to go by). And while square-enix have been rather underwhelming lately, they have loooong been masters of drawing players into a game by attaching emotion, depth, to their characters and stories. As long as these studio?s treat this as a new project, rather than a prequel to the existing washed up franchise, I don?t see this game going anywhere but up :)
I have faith in Squenix, and Crystal Dynamics. Now I?ll just sit back and wait for my mind to be blown come Fall 2012.

Btw, I think I have a crush on new Lara? <3

This is NOT Tombraider.

Well done Crystal Dynamics you've managed to already ruin the series and now you're turning it into Uncharted.
