Well, it looks like it may not be cancelled after all.. maybe. Supposedly someone from Sony has stepped forward and said the leak was false and the game has not been cancelled. Of course, they're still not actually talking about or showing the game so who knows. Maybe this E3 will be the year?

Well, that's not good. And here I was personally hoping that all the delays and the disappearance was attributed to the game being rebuilt as a PS4 title. Can't say I'm too shocked though given all of the staff that left during the development process. Then again, I guess this isn't exactly official.. yet.

Well. If this is true, then I guess I'm happy there's some sort of closure to all this.

Chances are, the game probably wouldn't have turned out good considering how most games that take forever to release usually end up. *cough* Duke Nukem Forever *cough*

R.I.P Last Guardian.

Edit: OP, that might not be the case. Sony has gone on Twitter saying the game hasn't been cancelled. Now we just need to wait for another report by Sony about it otherwise it's back in rumor category again. Remember back in 2011 when GameStop apparently said that The Last Guardian was cancelled. Also, for people wondering who Scott Rohde is, he's the PlayStation Software Product Development Head for Sony Worldwide Studios America right now, so I take what he says on the matter more than what a report does, even if it was our old Stevey. :p

Now do I still stand by what I originally wrote: yes. I say this because it's been in development hell for way too damn long to meet everyone's expectations unfortunately.

Honestly at this point I guessed it was cancelled 2 years ago in secrecy honestly. I mean, we've seen what happened last time a game had been in development for so long, had successful games prior, and ended up being utterly disappointing once it was finally release. >.> *glares at Duke Nukem*

Really in all honesty I lost interest in the game when I found out Ueda was leaving Sony in 2011, but had to stay until The Last Guardian was finished. I could see this possibly as being a way for Ueda to be able to leave, and for Sony to not burn more money on a project that is getting to the point of being on Valve time like Half-Life 3 is now. I hope Team Ico makes games in the future, and that those games don't try to hype you up until you just run dry because it's been so long. I know for many that's what Square Enix has done when it comes to Final Fantasy Versus XIII XV and what happened to people for the longest time when it came to Pikmin 3 with Nintendo.

Really I say it's good to get closure, but with how long it took Sony should have done this sooner. Rest in peace The Last Guardian, you are gone but the hype you generated will not be forgotten.

Also, reading the comment section for that article reminded me why I don't go to IGN news articles' comment sections. Yeah, it's passive-aggressive here at times, but over there one second your a Sony Pony, the next your an Xbot, and somehow you also ended up becoming a Nintendrone while also hating everything about Nintendo and wanting them to fail miserably. 0.o

Oh, and one other thing I've learned from this is that if I want the internet to go into a tizzy and create anarchy, I just need to start a rumor saying that The Last Guardian has been cancelled. Used to work for Half-Life 3, but that one seems old now. :p

Well, this pisses in my cheerios a fair bit. When Ueda left, we all knew this was the most likely result. Part of me actually still wants to believe in it, lol. However, that project has probably been stagnant this whole time if this is true. "We're working on it... we're just on break." I wonder how much of it actually got done.

silly man, the last guardian, just like Half-Life 3 dont actually exist, they never have, you see the last guardian and Half-Life 3 are not really games, people often look at them for guidance and confort, they want to believe they exist and if that makes them feel better, well its for the best, but its what they represent whats important, be good to others and eat your vegetables basically

Don't worry guys, in a couple years time, I look forward to the announcement that Gearbox Software has bought the rights, and they are going to bring The Last Guardian to the public at last! It will join the long and storied list of resurrected games that Gearbox has developed, such as the groundbreaking Duke Nukem Forever, Aliens Colonial Marines, and Homeworld! (Jury's still out on the last one.)

Witnessed NEOGAF flip their collective shit and it was amazing. Thankfully it hasn't been cancelled, but hot damn Sony needs to release something about this game to finally put these rumors to rest.

P.S. I also think this was to smoke out a leaker, and this probably caught one.
AND go fuck yourselves IGN

You know what Sony, at this point, if you're not going to show anything substantial this year, with a relatively near release date, you're probably better off killing it. 7 (possibly 8) years of development on a game that isn't going to sell bucketloads just isn't worth it.

Have they ever released any footage outside that E3 2009 trailer anyway? It seems much like Metal Gear Rising at the time whatever ideas the developers had for The Last Guardian they just couldn't get it to work. The premise looked really interesting so I hope they won't discard it entirely, even if its safe to say Last Guardian in its current form(or atleast how it was initially presented) will never see the light of day.

I don't think Sony will drop the game entirely though as it had too many unique ideas for an exclusive. They will make changes to the concept, maybe give it a different name but I'll be surprised we won't see the game resurface in one form or another. The concept is way too authentic(espescially as a first-party exclusive) to throw away like that. Probably why we never heard any 'official' cancellations, only rumours.

The only thing thats in IGN's vault of knowledge, is knowing a number less than zero for game scoring. I'm still holding out for this title, even if the world tells me it's been cancelled.

An unlikely dream maybe, but it gives us cause to hope.

It's less annoying than those bloody Half Life 3 rumors anyway.

Even if it eventually comes out I highly doubt that even the premise remains the same. There has to be a reason it has taken so long and I doubt its technical (I no way were they spending 7+ years of continuos development in a game that couldnt be technically possible in the console they were working for, they would outright put it on hold while waiting fore the next system and work on something else or just cancel it).

My guess is that they simply got stuck in development hell like what happened with Duke Nukem Forever, except Duke Nukem at least had something for comparison, The Last Guardian probably only needs a huge rat-bird and a kid for people to accept it as the same game meaning that it could even end up being a game like Panzer Dragoon.

I would've loved to play The Last Guardian and a part of me will always believe in it. But this was more or less inevitable I suppose.
