I'm still impressed every time I see the water effects of the rivers in Uncharted: Drake's Fortune. I want to jump and swim into these waters, and drink a little bit of it. :)

Good aesthetic design > graphical horsepower, any day of the week.
So very true. When I saw the sunset reflected in the sand I damn near shed a tear.

Team Fortress 2
Why such a game you ask?
Because I recently went from PS3 to PC with a 23 inch LED full HDMI screen
Yeah, that shit looks amazing

The last time I was impressed was God of War 3 - but generally, I have the feeling that I either lost the ability to distinct between different graphics levels or they just don't differ so much any more as they used to. Which is a good thing, because now we can focus on art design more than pure technical power (looking at games like Gears and Killzone: art design is the one lacking in the past few years, but that's apparently changing now).

Seeing half the map of Skyrim on a "clear day" from the top of a mountain is absolutely spectacular, in my opinion.

The last time i was truely impressed by graphics was when i first played Dragon quest VIII: Journey of the cursed king on PS2. That game was a truely magnificent spectacle to behold and the sheer sites in it were breathtaking to me.

God of War III, then Mortal Kombat, then FFXIII. Maybe its just the 1080p PS3 games look better than the 720p ones, although FFXIII looked so awesome all the time. There was never dull or neglected visual space in that game.

Skyrim as I expected a game that size to be only a bit better than oblivion and it was hugely better was very surprised by that fact of the game apart from that probably the first halo game as it was the first game that I played with "HD" graphics

Graphics? The Witcher 2 and Metro 2033 before that. Both are incredibly good-looking.

Purely based on art direction, it was probably Journey, which I played the other day. It was about the only thing I liked about it, apart from the sound design.

When I emerged blinking into the wasteland in the beginning of Fallout 3.

Yeah, definitely that. And now I want to go back and relive the moment when I played that game for the first time.

Mass effect 3 was just so beautiful. The gameplay graphics were amazing and the cutscene graphics...i thought it was watching a live action movie some times.

Can't really think of any. The closest would have to be Crysis 2, even on lower settings because my computer is stupid.
Though I was impressed by Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning simply because it was so huge, and didn't have bad textures, without getting over like 7 gb of space. And really good loading times. Seriously, that game had amazing loading times.

I haven't really been too stunned lately since once you know how graphics are done you become less impressionable and more nitpicky.

The most recent thing I was impressed with though was the use of God Rays (light shafts when object is blocking it) in Mass Effect 3 during one mission. The dying quarian with pixel perfect blood though...

The last time I was truly wowed by graphics was when the original gears of war came out for xbox360. I only had an original xbox and two of my friends had brand-spankin-new xbox360s with gears of war. I remember being blown away by the graphics (and the cover-based shooting as well). I think the apex of that game's graphical achievement was the "rainy industrial facility" mission. The lighting, water and sound effects of that mission just gelled nicely. There certainly have been great looking games since then but none have blown me away like that did.

Skyrim with mods.

The water looks so good it seems like I could reach into the screen and drink it.
