ARMA 2 Operation Arrowhead. Having put 150 hours into the regular game in a month, I was just waiting for Steam to put the expansion on sale, and being the swell fellas they are, they had it 50% off.
I bought it because I tried the demo. It's a challenging, mid-length dungeon crawler RPG with detailed anime-style character designs and monsters. Would have liked some characterization and plot in the overworld, but other than that it's exactly the kind of thing I like.
Oh, and it's probably the only JRPG I've ever played that has no tutorial or manual. Or cutscenes (aside from the intro). I'm impressed that XSEED dared to localize it, though they probably only did it because the game is fucking awesome.
Because I've heard good things about it and it's on sale. Although now I need to figure out how to give out the second copy of the game (thanks for making this hard, Steam...)
Solatorobo: Red the Hunter
and
Dynasty Warriors Gundam 3
First because it looked like some unique fun, which it is.
Second because I have the others, and it seemed to improve things, which it doesn't. Variety is less, presentation is much worse, but there's more characters and mobile suits.
Star Ruler, someone else talked about it here and I tried the demo and it ran on my laptop and it was as fun as hell, so I bought it on sale for $6.80...
Why?
1. It was only $20 new
2. I've read some incredibly positive reviews of it lately
3. I haven't played any kind of RPG in a year, and that was a Mario RPG
4. It's got a sequel coming out, and
5. I've recently come to realize that most games I play are a bit too easy, and that I've been hankering for a challenge
