And this is more or less why I'm scared to play LoL and DOTA. I have nothing against the games themselves or the people that make them, the attitudes of the crazy people it manages to attract every once in awhile scares the living hell out of me.

You're right. I would get mad at a girl that I love for playing MY character in a game. I would then totally post nude pics of said girl after she played a character that I hate in one game while stating that it was all for her own good. You see, by not talking to me for three days after I justifiably told her she can't play MY character anymore, society was able to get their grubby claws into her and turn her into a monster! It would all be for her own good.

I'm not condoning his actions. I'm just saying that there's probably a fair amount of people who post on this thread that are capable of the same things. ... And I hate it when people demonize others eventhough they might do the same in a similar situation.

The guy's catching enough flak as is. I feel like someone needs to halt this horde of harpies that feel like they need to slam another nail in the coffin.

Every single person who knows how to copy/paste and upload pictures on a computer has the ability to do revenge porn.
However, it takes a pretty warped mind to do such a thing in the first place. Yet along do it because your ex chose a character you liked as a "waifu" but didn't like as a competitive avatar.

Maybe he wasn't always this bad.

I know a couple who got married, and then stuff happened and the man got mentally ill. (Depression at least, maybe some form of schizophrenia) and the woman found herself married to a completely new person. 'It's like the man I married died', is how she described it, but breaking off with someone who is seriously ill might not be something you want to do (especially since they had a kid) especially if you believe things can get back to normal.

Also she might have been emotionally vulnerable, or he might have been manipulative or have his good side. People end up in crappy relationships all the time.

That really seems like it should be illegal... like really fucking illegal. But, of course, the world sucks, so it's not.

If you let/give someone naked pictures of yourself law says they can do whatever with them.

I don't know why people continue to do it.

The law can say what it wants, that's why I said "should be illegal" because there's not much reason to actually keep it legal.

And I'd assume people do this because they trust the person they're giving the pictures to, as most people probably don't cynically plan out for the eventual break up and embitterment of their ex. In the moment, it's probably just a bit of erotic fun the couple has with each other without thought to the eventual consequences. The idea that someone could post images of you online without your consent and be completely innocent in the eyes of the law also just seems far-fetched, until you get the dooming realization that the legal system hates you.

It's not cynical to assume that. Relationships are funny things, theres always a chance things won't end well and when they do end generally folks aren't so mature about it.

If folks didn't give their lovers naked pics of themselves, then the entire thing would be a non-issue.

I think pretty much everyone condemning his actions do so for two reasons.

1) He posted naked pictures of a girl for revenge.
2) He wanted revenge because she played an OP character that he didn't like once.

Now, if he posted the pictures because she was cheating on him, the responses would probably be more reasoned. "I can't condone his actions, but I understand how he feels."

This wasn't a reasonable response. This is blowing something entirely out of proportion. This is someone not waving to thank you for letting them into traffic, so you slash their tires.

Nah, sociopaths can be charming, but not always, and once you expose or confront them they will often break down and their irrationality will become much more noticable. What they do have is shamelessness (from not caring about other people), which when used right looks like confidence, and people love confidence. Say something with confidence and it doesn't matter if your spewing bullshit, at least some people will flock to you, look at how many people still voted for Anthony Weiner, even though he keeps getting caught sexually harassing women and cheating on his spouse. This guy had fans and people liked him despite his acidic personality, even now there are still people in youtube comments defending him, he's a good LoL player and had confidence, sometimes that's all you need.
