I really like the art style, the characters and the gameplay of LoL, but i'm terrible at it. I've done a game with a K/D of 1/22 :(. I really enjoy it, but does anyone have any tips, champ suggetions or overall strategies so i don't get my ass kicked? Thanks.

Everything I've heard about LoL is that you NEED to know your build order. So if you haven't found that out, start with it.

Quick punch into google brought out Leaguecraft [http://leaguecraft.com/strategies/guides] so try that.

Try out http://www.solomid.net/guides.php.
Their featured guides are always top notch and they often times have videos to describe the playstyles.

Yea definatly read some guides for whatever champ you are playing, the right skill order and general item build makes a huge difference.

Personally, I like starting with a mekli or regrowth pendant and pots on almost every toon.

Try this. Find a strength hero, build defence and strength and health regen items.

Max any stun abilities, max any survivability abilities (teleport, invis etc.), max any gank abilities (anything which helps to initiate)

Then don't die, don't rambo, stick together, only last hit creeps.

:) Worked for me when I played LoL. I didn't like it but I won all the games I plaed and my K/D was always positive.

I prefer HoN but yeah, if you like LoL try that shit.

Got to agree with most of the comments here, you need to find 1) A champ you can work with and 2) That champs build. First off play with a few different champs that are available to you and test out their strengths and weaknesses...but before you play it would also be wise to check the info list on said character to get a good idea how to build them i.e Tank/Mage/Support.

www.mobafire.com has some builds and guides you can look up for LoL characters and I suggest doing so until you get a hang for it and can properly make your own builds that work. Teamwork is essential in LoL and one weak link potentially threatens the entire chain.

Finally dont be too disappointed in losing, if you are a low summoner level theres even a good chance you are facing some smurf accounts (almost everyone has them) so losing to someone who already has an advantage is not somthing to get worked up about. 1/22 K/D aint bad if you have like 40 assists and are a tank/support champ =)

Play garen. I could probably make a guide using a ken-style flowchart (an up to date one).

Since you cannot stack sunfire capes anymore, building tank or tank/ad hybrid should suffice. Obviously if you play garen, I go for this.

This is my skill order
1=e
2=q
3=w

From then on the skill order is maxing out R, E, W and then finally Q. He is incredibly easy and powerful. When you get more levels and IP consider getting armour penetration runes as well.

Yes, this is all you need to know to play garen.

And as a more serious piece of advice, following item builds works well at first, but when you get more experienced you should go through the time to see what items work best with your character, and more importantly work best with your teammates and the enemy team.

Don't play it? HEYO!

I would say stick to one thing that works best. If you work best with fast characters stick to fast characters (Warwick is a good example). Strong stick to strong, etc., etc.

Really you should look up one of those LoL fan sites some of them have all manner of insanely detailed builds for all the characters all with all kinds of strategies and so on.

May I direct you here? [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/groups/view/Escapist-s-League-of-Legends-Group]
Anywho, your gonna need to be more specific. What champions do you play? What play styles do you prefer? etc.

solomid and mobafire have good build guides.

Anyways general tips;
Buy Wards, learn where to ward.
Do not overextend
Do not follow singed
Learn how to last hit
Play free champs, they can be fun
Get a respectable creep kill count, remember creep farm gives gold to build.
Learn your build for your best champs
Don't facecheck a bush unless you are 100% certain you wont get horribly ganked.
Ward Baron/Dragon with a pink ward not green
Learn at least 1 ranged AD carry, 1 mage/support/ap carry, 1 tank, 1 jungler, and 1 melee anything.
Dont intentionally feed
Don't be a dick
Bad games happen, don't rage

And the most important rule of League of Legends Summoner

Have fun

Work really hard at improving at last hitting creeps (to last hit is to strike with the killing blow). Last hitting well will put you at a large gold advantage against other new players, because they tend to just auto attack at random.

Keep right clicking around all the time, and in different directions. It keeps your fingers limber while making it harder for your enemy to land skill shots and predict your actions.

Don't try to save anyone. Most of the time you'll just die too. Unless you're absolutely sure of course.

Don't stack Gold per 5 items. Some new players think it's awesome, but it's usually a really bad idea.

If you're a physical carry and find yourself unable to do enough damage later in the match, buy critical strike chance. It's the best way to greatly up your damage late game. Unless of course, you just have no armor pen and the enemy has a great deal of armor.

Buying boots as early as possible is a good idea. Unless you're having no trouble in your lane or happened to start off the match with boots. Mobility is very important in this game.

Don't buy Tier 1 or 2 runes. It's best to save up that IP for Tier 3 runes after you level up.

No character has a fixed build. Buy items based on what you're lacking or how the enemy team is composed. Knowing what to do will take a good deal of experience or a mentor though.

The best thing you can do is play the game. You'll suck for quite awhile if you've never played a DOTA-like before, but as long as you're having fun just keep on keeping on.

As the others stated, first you have to find out what kind of heroes you like.

If you're like me and like stealthy charecters then Evelynn [http://eune.leagueoflegends.com/champions/28/evelynn_the_widowmaker] is a great choice.

Now the thing about Evelynn is that she doesnt have a lot of power right off the bat, not to mention her Shadow Walk and Ravage skills are costly (I dont personally use the Hate Spike)

Now that we have the basics down, lets talk items!

First thing i aim for is 'Beserkers greaves' (Movespeed 2, +25% Attack Speed)
Next is 'Madreds Razor' (+15 damage, +23 Armor, 15% chance of doing +500dmg to minions/creeps)
which can then be upgraded to 'Madreds Bloodrazor' (+30 damage, +40% attack speed, +25 armor, on hit deal 4% of targets max hp as magic damage)

Now with just theese 2 items, you can use your stealth to sneak up behind a lone enemy hero, hit him with ravage (Which lowers his armor and magic resist) turn on your ultimate and the attackspeed along with the 4% max hp damage will rip a lot of people apart.

Other good items would be:
The Black Cleaver
+55 Attack Damage +30% Attack Speed UNIQUE Passive: Physical attacks reduce your target's Armor by 15 for 5 seconds (maximum 3 stacks).

Phantom Lancer:
+55% Attack Speed +30% Critical Strike +15% Movement Speed.

Infinity Edge:
+80 Attack Damage +25% Critical Strike UNIQUE Passive: Critical hits now deal 250% damage instead of 200%.

I'd say definately DO NOT try and play evelynn if you're only just getting into the game, she's hard to play against anyone with a braincell and after the last nerf, she's broken on any vaguely map aware team.

Best starter champs are characters like Ashe, Xin, Annie, Garen and Alistair. Depends if you prefer ranged, casters, meleee or tanks!

For ashe try max out Volley first, having 1 in each of your other abilities, and then bring them up alternately, ulti whenever you can.

Basicly you want to aim to just get as much Attack Damage (AD) as possible, the normal builds for her tend to be (order varies):

Bloodthirster, Boots of Swiftness/Mercury Treads, Phantom Dancer, Infinity Edge, Mandreds Bloodrazer, Banshee's Vale (defencive)/Black Cleaver (offencive).

As others have said, general play wise, jsut try and last hit creeps (don't autoattack except to kill them for hte gold). This means the enemy will push to your tower more often, giving you better chance to kill them, and less chance to get ganked yourself.

Always be aware of the map (with Ashe you have a hawkshot to reveal terrain) on other characters get wards and place them at commonly used junctions or bits of grass.

If you are completely new to the genre, just try not to die and still get experience and maybe creep-lasthits from your lane.
Buy the recommended items, they are mostly fine.

Oh, and people will insult you, just get used to /ignore those.

Once you get better, check forums for guides on how to maximize your efficiency and other ways to play your champions.

As most people are saying, builds are absolutely necessary for anyone who's new to the game. However, I more than recommend that you adapt to your own play-style. Play plenty of games against bots, and try different strategies and builds. The truth is that you'll never find one build which is appropriate for any situation. Always counter your enemies.

For example, I main Sona, and I have about four different builds I use interchangeably. I find sometimes that my team is DPS heavy, and I can't take much flak, so I bulk up, usually with an Aegis of the Legion (great for support). If we're nicely balanced (i.e. Tank, DPS, Support), I ignore my health, and stack AP for healing. My favorite, of course, is when the other team gets the notion that Sona is a free kill. Then I like to backlash with offensive items like Deathfire, which along with my ultimate can destroy most squishy assailants.

While it really helps reading guides etc and learning what different champions do, it might be a bit daunting for someone new to the game to have to memorize so much information. There are however a few different things that can greatly help you improve with minimal effort.

1: Learn how to play defensively before you learn to play offensively.

If you're in doubt about your survivability, stick to your turret or at least far away from the enemy champions (exp-range is quite large). You won't get alot of last-hits this way, but you won't be feeding the opposing team either.

2: Throw away any crutches instantly.

Having summoner spells such as heal or revive just makes learning the game more difficult in the long run. However getting escape tools such as Ghost or Flash is highly beneficial (as those will actually remain useful throughout the game).

3: Every now and then you should read up on a new champion or two.

This is easily done at http://leagueoflegends.wikia.com/wiki/List_of_champions. Just reading about one each day takes merely a few minutes and improves your game-awareness incredibly. As for guides on champions you want to play more frequently, http://www.mobafire.com/league-of-legends/champions is a good source.

4: Practice, practice and more practice.

I recommend coop vs AI games until you hit around level 10. At that point you should start getting a feel for reading basic behavior patterns (example; enemy runs towards you = he probably intends to do something to you). It also helps you getting a good timing on basic abilities you should master, such as skillshots or defensive spells.

5: Have fun.

The whole game is for naught if you do not enjoy yourself. People often dis-recommend buying tier one runes for example, but part of the charm can be gradually beefing yourself up. It's the same reasons RPGs are fun. Do what it takes for yourself to enjoy the game as long you aren't ruining the experience for your teammates. :)

Lastly, I would also like to recommend Soraka for a starter champions. She is cheap and entirely self-sustained. Not to mention people will be loving you for keeping them alive with heals and giving out free-mana. Never underestimate the enjoyment one can have as a support character. his isn't WoW after all ;)

Sorry about the wall of text

Play Bloodline Champions. Not even joking here. If you can be mediocre in BLC you will do great in LoL.

Beyond that find a good build and play defensively. Learn when to fight, and when to run. If you know how to fight and run then you mastered 70% of the game right there.
