What game did you hate the most in 2011 and why? Did it mess up your favorite franchise? Was a complete piece of shit despite the 13 YEAR DEVELOPMENT PERIOD (I actually find that sad and pathetic.)

The game I hated most was probably Ace Combat Assault Horizon. If I needed an example of a series changing to pander to people who can barely handle a controller I would point to this. Sure it looks nice and might be a bit exciting and stand up on it's own... But the Ace Combat Series is probably my favorite franchise ever. And Assault Horizon beats it with a rusty pipe.

First (My smallest annoyance with it but still pisses me the fuck off) is that this game take place in the real world. the Plot is basically something you would see in CoD and Battlefield. Only you are a jet pilot and not the infantry. I want my AC games to take place in the same world it always has. this way nobody in the real world is being targeted as the enemies cause all the cultures and countries would be made up.

Second they added the option to be Helicopters. Effectively reducing the amount of Jet levels for that shit. People play Ace Combat to be the fast jets that blow up shit from above and have epic dog fights. Not to gun at people on the ground.

Third they added fucking Scripted Events. It is kinda obvious how that can piss me off. The only time I ever accept scripted events in an Ace Combat game would be the final missions of the game.

And finally the WORST FUCKING THING.
[HEADING=2]FLIGHT ASSISTANCE[/HEADING]

GOD DAMN THAT IS JUST FUCKING HORRIBLE. What it does is let the game take control of the jet flying and all you have to do is aim effectively making the game a rail shooter. And most of the jets will not die till you fly over a specific area so the scripted event can happen meaning no matter how much you shoot they will not go down effectively wasting valuable missiles. The game is pandering to casual gamers with this by removing the difficulty of the game and giving the player as little to do as possible which just... *Sigh* It actually depresses and disappoints me more then angers. which is why it is just so fucking bad.

Anyways enough or my Tirade. what are your least favorite games of 2011?

Skyrim.

Although there were worse games in 2011, nothing pissed me off more than the fact that despite the game being a mediocre piece of shit, people were praising it like the second coming. Infact it was the second coming - of Oblivion.

Now in retrospect people are starting to realize that the game is balls and Bethesda need to be harshly criticized rather than throwing praise and GOTY awards at them.

Dead Island runs a second close, and thank fuck I did not waste my money on it. It is mediocre in every possible way, but is less than the sum of its parts.

Uncharted 3 for all the ten star ratings it got as well as all the praise it got I didn't find it all that good. Hell I would call it below average. When I heard people say that Drake was "Witty" I thought he would have some wit, but alas no he just spouts a bunch of dialog that just makes him extremely unlikable. At this point a bunch of people are going to say "Oh he is just copying Yahtzee." That would be a negative I can't even say I found the game play fun. I found whenever I died (witch wasn't often) that I just plain didn't want to continue not because it was hard because it was boring. If you liked the game good for you, I didn't. Also first Uncharted game not going to get any others.

Pretty much this for me. Also add 'Broken to the point that it's an insult that they're charging you to play this.'

I haven't encountered any game-breakers at all yet, and I think it's an improvement over Oblivion in a lot of ways, but I've heard enough other people to believe they're there and I won't criticise your decision.

OT: I didn't play a lot of games in 2011 and I'm planning on even less in 2012, but probably Sonic Generations. It's a great game, sure - it'd be a lot better if Modern Sonic would stop moving around when I'm not pressing any buttons. (I use an "unbranded" Dualshock, BTW.)

In all honesty, it was L.A. Noire.

Every part of me wanted to love that game, but I mostly just found myself bored and annoyed by the amount of railroading.

Oh, you mean all of these homicides that have followed the same basic MO of the local serial killer IS ACTUALLY THE WORK OF THE SERIAL KILLER!? I had that much figured out after the second homicide case...I didn't need three more. Variety is the spice of life.

Traffic was awesome. Vice was ok. Both Arson and Homicide only succeeded in making me mad in completely different ways. The ending was unsatisfying and only served to annoy.

I loved what it was trying to do. I was just not alright with the execution.

I could go into more detail but I'm suddenly not in the mood. >.<

Same here. L.A. Noire had me very excited. Through the whole play-through I Reeeeeeally wanted to love the game, but many quibbles (great word) spoiled it for me. And that ending, my god did it make me angry.

On a positive note, it's a step in the right direction, and done correctly it could've been a fantastic game. It just felt like they didn't have enough faith in themselves to pull it off.

Fable 3 for PC.

I regret spending money on it. The story and characters were uninteresting and the game play was tedious and unbalanced.

Add in the long and frequent load times and I end up wondering why I played as much of it as I did. Ugh.

I know what you mean, in on of the homicide cases, one of the suspects was a homeless man, I decided to go and talk to him first as he was the main suspect in that case. So I get to where he lived only to be told he wasn't there and had to go talk to everyone else before being told told to go back and talk to him. That wound me up.

Also the final mission of homicide which had you following a series of clues that took you to various landmarks around the map. Only maybe you hadn't found that landmark yet and had to wait around until the characters decided to tell you where to go. There were some good ideas in this game, they were just poorly executed.

However, this is not my worst game of the year, that dubious honour goes to Portal 2. Yeah, it was funny and some of the puzzles were good and I know graphics don't make a game but I found this game to be boring, repetetive and ugly. I think I got to just after finding Potato Glados before finally giving up out of boredom and finding something fun to play.

The topic is least favorite game, not worst.

Errr no. You read the title again. It says "least favourite". So that's highly subjective and it's perfectly understandable for AAA titles to pop up in such a context, since they disappoint so often.

I thought Skyrim wasn't anything special, it looked nice, I suppose. I just didn't really care. I prefer open map games to include assault rifles. In fact, I did not buy anything special last year. Only games I like, or though I'd like. Huh.
I did download Dead Island, and I am glad I did, because MAN did it suck. And the guy I played with has a strange immunity to toilets, as he drank 20 fricking cans of soda every hour or so. What is up with that? But I couldn't give a single toss about any of the characters, and after I killed enough zombies, I went back to l4d2, which is superior IMO.

What do you want me to say? Duke Nukem Forever?

I knew going into that one I was going to hate it. I was braced for it and it did not surprise me in just how awful it was.

When I pick a game that I feel is my least favorite, I choose one that disappointed me the most. This year, it was L.A. Noire. No, it wasn't the worst game released. In fact, the gameplay was quite good when it was firing on all cylinders.

But he asked for least favorite. That's what I gave.

Edit: Aaand you aren't the OP. Changed my wording.

Oblivion and Skyrim were both good games, you can't say it was the worst of 2011, just it's graphics and gameplay make it better than the worst game of 2011 by far, I think you're just overstating your anger at the game being less than what you expected.

OT: Definitely as stated by many before Duke Nukem forever was a terrible game, not just because of the fact that it has been in development for 10 years, but the fact that the graphics and control work like balls and the storyline and gameplay is just terrible.

Skyrim. Certainly not a bad game, but I didn't enjoy it as much as I enjoyed all the other games I played. I enjoyed Bodycount and Duke Nukem Forever more than Skyrim.

Personally, my least favorite and at the same time, worst game I played this year was either Cross Edge, which bored me to tears, or more likely Last Rebellion.

Good god that game was a piece of crap. No wonder everyone says JRPG genre is dying if this is what passes for JRPGs.
Just feels like a lot of people call something that's perfectly good their least favourite game because it's less than they expected, rather than because it was actually bad, whereas i'm sure they would have played another game this year that they would have enjoyed less
But I do see your point

Your point is a strawman. The topic is strictly least favorite games. Someone could say Dark Souls is their least favorite game, and they wouldn't be wrong, because it is strictly subjective.

ITT you cannot defend any game. It is personal opinion.

Least favorite...least favorite...hmm.

I could say Skyrim for it's ability to be completely addictive while being completely mediocre at the same time. I could say Uncharted for not having the balls to make the game's pacing match the storyline's tone (could also throw in that said storyline bares more than a few similarities to Indy 3). I could say DX: Human Revolution for making me have to go through those excrutiating boss fights only to 'reward' me with a shitty montage of film footage with a waffling voice over (Metal Gear syndrome). But the loser is...Duke Nukem Forever.

DNF is my least favorite game not because of the well documented problems the game has but because of the way it made me feel as a player. Firstly, it made me embarassed to be an advocate of the industry due to its crass and tasteless attempts at humour; secondly it made me depressed when I realised I 'can't go home'. Games have evolved to the point where they can give narrative on an almost cinematic level and part of this evolution has been to leave certain 'old school' game mechanics behind, DNF just served as a reminder that those evolutions happened for a reason and that I can only appreciate them on a nostalgic level.
