Since cliff racers have already been mentioned im going to go with facehuggers from AvP classic. Your just waltzing along in a dark area when suddenly you hear a scuttling... then WAM screen full of facehugger. Also their small size makes them harder to hit and predator weapons don't seem to like to lock on to them.

Horse Archers in any Total War game. They just keep flitting away, just ahead of your pursuing troops. Well after their side has lost the battle, they're still there, gnawing away at your dudes. And they always manage to escape the battle when they finally route, so you have to go through the trouble of beating them again and again as they fall back across the map.

Dr. Nefarious from Rachet & Clank, that bastard kept coming back for more
Aaahhh but he was so awesome!

I'd have to say any enemy that simply gets back up again. Mostly the undead. In Siren Blood Curse, which I'm playing for the sake of having my money's worth, the zombie-like Shibito will die from one well-placed sledgehammer, but they will also get back up again. Example; I was in a house, the dead mother of the house attacks me with a kitchen knife. *smack* I move on, I find the grandmother, who whacks me over the head with a crowbar. *smack* I know that granny's gonna get up again so I close the door of the room she's in. I continue. I find that the door is locked. I go back. I find the key. I go back to the door. And the door to the room granny was in is open. And granny is not in the room. I looked like this: :[

And then she jumped me from behind. FUCK YOU, UNDEAD.

Those spiky plant reptile things in Devil May Cry 4 (players of the game know what I'm talking about) they're almost impossible to attack without getting hit and breaking your combo streak.

PalletteSwapper from every JRPG in existence. Man I hate them. I don't care what you call it a blue slime is the same as a red slime and you are just lazy.
You realize back in the cartridge days they HAD to do that in order to save memory right?
And today?

Also the question is hated enemies. Not reasons that the enemies I hated had to exist.
I realize what the thread is about, but you're complaining about something that quite often times couldn't be helped.
And as for today, well if a series such as Dragon Quest, which began in the cartridge days were to go and change the looks of the monsters now they'd risk the outrage of clinging complaining dipshits better know as fans.

OT: Any incarnation of Goddamned Bats [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/GoddamnedBats], which includes those cliff racers from Morrowind. And yes I went there, see you guys in a couple of hours.

The Hell Wyrm and Yiazmat from Final Fantasy 12, sporting hp of 1 million and 52 million respactively. It should not take hours of gameplay to beat a boss, even if the game can play itself.

Right I am sure fans would be out for blood with the introduction of new creatures along with the classics. And it isn't just about DQ. Hell DA:O did it. Well they sort of did it anyways. They didn't bother with the actual palletteswap and just changed the name. And again it doesn't matter what the reasons are. If they were able to do it or not due to a variety of reasons. It bothers me. Always has and always will. You can make a million excuses for it and it will still bother me. It hasn't deterred me from JRPGs or gaming in general (since RPGs aren't the only culprits). It is just one of those things.

Conflux heroes in HoMM 3. Unimaginative, unfair and with a keyboard-splicingly frustrating tendency to run away right before you think you're gonna win his ass and loot some epic artifactery goodness.

Also, just about every mercenary in Far Cry 2. Fun to fight at first since they can take more than one hit before going down, and I like the challenge. Not so much, however, when you realize every guard post has its occupants respawn after five flucking minutes.

Any animal in a game where you mostly fight humanoids. It doesn't matter what genre (except RPGs), those things are bloody annoying. Even worse if they're small.
