Actually, I /was/ talking about the ending... I suppose I should clarify that a bit...

Nah. I'm too lazy. I would hope that most of you can figure it out for yourselves.

Theme of the thread: Cliffhangers suck. (Much like Cliffhanger starring Sylvester Stallone) Few movies have been able to pull off an effective "dark" cliffhanger Empire Strikes Back-style, and I can't even name a single video game that has.

But as for bad game endings? I'm surprised that no one's really brought up old NES/SNES games that pretty much just... ended. They were hard as hell, and gave almost no congratulations at the end. A "Good Job" was about all you could hope for. In fact, many of these games never ended! (Think Tetris)

Oh, and I must disagree with above posters about COD4's ending. I thought it was great. It ended the way a great war movie would end. Having a big boss battle with a mechanized bad guy or something would have been awful.

I think we can all say we're disappointed with an ending that either ends leading to a sequel or that just ends "Great job!" credits, back to title.

CoD 5: WaW

Partially due to the ending of CoD 4, which was presented in a superior way, making me see CoD 5's ending as leaving something to be desired.
It's WWII, how did you expect it to end?
Yeah, I know. That's exactly it. I already knew how it was going to end. But content aside, the ending of CoD 4 was presented in a much more compelling and dramatic way.

Mass Effect? Are you serious!? Personally, I thought the ending to Mass Effect was great. Actually managed to perfectly balance offering a suitably dramatic and complete ending and leaving the path open for a sequel.

I got frustrated with the ending of Psi-Ops: the Mindgate Conspiracy (a criminally overlooked PS2 gem). It's another one of those, "To be continued..." attempts at a cliffhanger ending. Too bad the game didn't do well enough to warrant a sequel.

Prince of Persia had a pretty bad ending.
Yeah I was disappointed with that ending. I was like "What??"

Also, Call of Duty 1. I mean, the game didn't have much of a story but the very end was a really freaking easy level where you climbed to the top of a tower just to watch a slideshow. Although the ending was a rip-off, the credits were amazing.

Teeneage mutant ninja turtle on the NES. The final level was way too hard to achieve and twice as dificult to actually complete. Add to this the fact that the end boss "Shredder" is way too easy to defeat and has some frustrating over powered weapon that kill you in one shot.

The ending is based on the original tv cartoon but makes no sense whatsoever. You want to beat this game you watch a video of it on youtube... way more fun that way and it's free... like it was meant to be.

This really is bad form from Bethesda. I love thier games but they really screwed the ps3 owners with the dlc. And I dunno why they won't release it on hard copy on the 360 either, they'd make a fortune off it, they did with Shivering Isles.

I think both FEAR games had pretty bad endings. The first one I could deal with, because it was twistedly enjoyable. But when I saw the second ending I noticed a trend - in both games, the writers turn around and say 'so hey all that stuff you did was pretty cool but it turns out you've been once again outwitted (see RAPED) by our awesome psychic ghost lady. Isn't she awesome? She owns you every single time she turns up. Also no closure. Roll credits!'

I'm really getting sick of Alma and her hackneyed-shrieky-violin-pop-ups. She's not scary anymore. She's just frustrating and dull.

Let us kill her in the third game and put all this behind us.

(Sorry for the rant, but I just completed FEAR 2 and I'm full of rage.)
I agree for the most part, but I get more irritated with the fanboys that keep saying the protagonists are still alive (after the first F.E.A.R. & F.E.A.R. 2, it's pretty clear what happens). I do agree that there's no real closure though, it's like watching the beginning of a movie that never gets to the climax.

I also agree with Myst. Even on the 'good' ending.

FALLOUT 3, alot of people have already said it, and it sucked big time. The rest of the game was awesome though.

GTA IV. It wasn't an ending. It was a half finished cutscene. But killing off that ***** Kate goes some way to repairing it. Yeah Kate! Try ringing me up every 5 minuetes to berate me and ask me to date you from hell you *****! If that's what real dating is like, I'm out.

alot of bad endings available. but i still hate FFIX for killing Vivi at the end without so much as a cutscene. At least FFX had an overdramatic airship leap.
Even as an FFX/FFX-2 fangirl, I have to say the ending to FFX-2 was rather crap. I understand the need to "fanservice" us and go "oh btw tidus isn't REALLY gone, here, have him back so him and yuna can live happily ever after".. and maybe seeing this happen will remind me that maybe, just maybe, bringing Aeris back would have felt just as weak.. but yeah.. that was pretty lame.

Then again, there's also "We're sorry Mario, but your princess is in another castle... haha just kidding!"

Terrible how Ashley tries to convince Leon to "do some over time." I had to laugh but still akward direction as well. It made for a bad ending.
