A lot of people want to be alone after a relationship because they know other people will tell them to let things go... but the empty spot where that person once was is the only bit of them still left. Being an only child, I appreciate alone time. I do go out with friends and have a life, but I think I appreciate spending time alone more than others probably due to the fact I'm an only child as its what I'm used to. I enjoy socialising but I could almost just as happily be spending my days doing my own thing. I don't have a particular time - but I think if something made me sad, and event or grieving or something, I would want to be alone because I just can't stand being comforted. It makes me severely awkward.

People are loud. I don't think anyone realises just how loud they are. And they have their TVs on too loud. I can hear my neighbours two doors down, and that's a good 50m away.
But then again, I have really good hearing. People always say I'm quiet, but to me I speak normally, and everyone else is loud. Sometimes it's too much.
So why do I like to be alone? To give my ears a rest.

EDIT: forgot to say why I like being alone, a lot of times people just annoy me and I just want to get away from it all, it all being my family, it's like nobody gets me except for this one guy I have a huge crush on and talk to on RuneScape all the time, and he told me he trusts me and is therefore in love with me *crazy laugh. (keep in mind that i'm just a really angsty teenager though.

Depends. Sometimes I want to be alone so I can think, do work, and other things. Other times, I'm feeling like such a fucking loser that I really just want to be left alone to rest and

Lots of people need time alone after being around lots of people for a long time, or after a day of hard work.If you're tired, you aren't going to want to be in a crowded mall or a loud construction site. For numerous reasons, I know, but a change of atmosphere can certainly be one of them.
I get overwhelmed pretty easily, especially by big crowds. It's an ADHD thing, partly. Sometimes when a lot of loud things are going on at once, I just shut everything out automatically and stare into space. After some quiet time alone, I feel much better. Shutting everything out is not the same as being alone, as it's all still there as incomprehensible noise. That, and it sometimes weirds people out. Alone time is healthy, as long as you do productive, interactive things when not alone.
