today in team fortress 2 i was on a team that had absolutely no one willing to play as a medic. Usually i play as a pyro and have clocked more than 120 hours as one but something just seemed wrong with a team with no medic so i switched classes. to my suprise im a natural medic, i love playing medic about as much as i love playing pyro.

my question to you escapists have you every played a class based game where you were suprised to find another class you did not initially find appealing, to be fun? or are you the type of person who switches to whats needed and have no preference?

I always used to play as what ever spell caster class there was... then promptly run in head first into combat like a moron.
Then I played Titans quest and decided it was just so fun to punt mythological creatures around while wielding two maces. Now I mix between classes more but I still prefer the magic ones.

In terms of stuff like Battlefield I would go as anything but a medic, I sucked at that, I could barely keep my own health up let alone someone else's too.

In every RPG ever, I always pick the thief/sneaky class for my character because it's how I naturally deal with almost any situation. Recently though I've been trying to make a good mage character in Morrowind and I'm actually enjoying the challenge.

In military type games though I'm always the sniper. Always.

In MW2 I sort of make the same classes all the time. But recently I tried making a class with *ahem* marathon, lightweight and commando (I did not use the knife as my primary weapon, I repeat; I did not use the knife as my primary weapon), with a UMP45 and Spas 12. I found that the ability to run that fast was very comfortable.

Take team fortress again; I never liked playing sniper, thought he was inneffectual, situational and ridiculously hard to play. Just last week it all clicked and I'm headshotting everyone. You can really stop a push very quickly if you get their medic as they rush.
He's my second favourite class now.

I do like playing as a medic on defense much more than offense. Offensive medics don't do shit until they get an uber. Defensive medics don't rely on uber, as they really just support like they're supposed to. I can pretty much swing with any class, except for maybe scouts.

In RPG games I always choose the warrior class that has great melee combat skills but shit spellcasting and mage skills. It's just how I play.

In Oblivion I would alsways defualt to sword/magic. However in Left 4 dead instead of using shot gun I tried Sniper rifle and my accuracy and total kills improved greatly (natural sniper, who knew ^_^) so I decided to try archer this time in Oblivion. turns out I had it wrong the whole time, Archery is my new favourite weapon choice and I have left sword/magic alone.

My first DA:O character was an elf mage and I built him completely wrong. The result was that I had to start over and decided to try something I never do - the dwarf warrior. It worked well, so I tried a human rogue next. That went well so I think next time I am going to try being a mage again.

I had the same thing with the heavy. I tried him once on the 360 and found him to one sided and not very versatile, but later when I got tf2 for the pc I tried him and and I absolutely dominated. I think because he's the only one with a regular projectile gun unlike the rocket launcher, flame thrower, scatter gun, ect. I also have that problem with wow and other rpg's.After years of nothing but warrior I get bored, play as a mage, and get murdered. Mainly it's because I got the "run in and kill everything" mentality etched into my mind.

Hmmm, I rarely play class-based games, but that's only because the only decent RPGs I had that weren't FF or KH were stolen, and I don't have The Orange Box yet due to lack of fundage. But when I play shooters online, I try and work based on what I think the tactics require. I'm a great tactician and strategist, but no-one ever seems to listen, preferring the stupid and idiotic 'run-n-gun' approach. Especially in the original Halo on PC. But I try and form tactics, then stick to them, so that seems to work fairly well. I reckon I'm a natural sniper in games, though.

As far as strategy games go too, again, I'll look at a map and form an army or choose a faction based on what I think would work well. Though I stick to a mainly cavalry/archer army set-up on Rome: Total War. Soften up the enemy with your archers, possibly some infantry to defend them, then flank with your cavalry. Works like a charm almost every time... ;)

My class in TF2 normal depends on my mood. I may play a week or 2 as scout then change to spy then to engie. It really depends on what I feel like playing as. But now I have 2 hats I find I play as the two class that have the hat just because and these are solly and engi. But I do often change class anyway as because of my constant changing I have became very effective in about 7 of the 9 classes. My bad ones being pyro and medic. But that being said if I feel the team needs a medic then I'm more than happy to try.

so summed up: mostly solly and engi, Often change to class I feel like playing or feel the team needs.

I usually play a rogue type character but I tried playing as a spellcaster on Titan Quest and found that setting people on fire with my hands was rather fun.

I used to play only melee classes, but after playing an L2 archer, enjoyed the run-and-shoot of range classes that, aside from the occasional healer, it is my first choice in most games. Except wow. Not quite the fan of the hunter. Damn. But after typing it, I suddenly want to restart my account after a year of neglect and give it another chance.

In Unreal Fortress, I must be playing either the Commando, the Marksman, the Armourer or the HWG equivalent guy in order to actually get a kill.

I'm usually an Assassin or Archer class in every RPG I play, including MMO's. After pimping out all of my characters on Guild Wars though I decided to try a Monk, and I wasn't expecting it to be as fun as it is because I don't like caster classes, but it was fun and I pretty much made the Monk my main PvP character. From that, I now at least consider healer classes in the MMO's I play, usually levelling one as an alt after I've levelled my Assassin/Archer.

I just made a Gladiator on Aion today too, I usually never pick the plate classes with big ass 2 handed weapons, but I decided to give it a try. It's pretty fun, although I've gotta play it to at least lv.10/15 before being able to experience it fully. I watched all the class intros too before picking my class on Aion, re-watching them now I fail to see how I didn't find this appealing to begin with..

I usually play more quick, agile characters in most any game I play (ie, Rogues in DnD, Scouts in TF2, and Infiltrators in Mass Effect) but when I picked up Monster Hunter Tri, I found that not only was exceptionally poor with their Swords and Shield (The rough equivalent to my skill set) but the Switch Axe and Greatsword (both low speed, high damage weapons) fit me like a glove.

well, in TF2 i started as pyro, demo, scout and engie.
Now i'm playing Heavy, soldier, pyro, engie.
I sometimes play the other classes as well, but mostly those.
