Since Steam support is totally useless (only 3 problems with Left 4 Dead 2, none of them were mine) and since Valve hasn't answered the support email I sent, I decided to start a bugs and glitches board for Left 4 Dead 2. Basically, if you have a problem with the game, you can come here, post it, and if someone knows a fix, they can help you out.

As for me, I've got a ball-buster. From what research I've done, most people don't have this problem, and the few that do have no way to fix it. I can start the game fine, but when I try and play anything (even the credits), it loads longer than usual, then I get a flashing black screen and stuttering sound effects. I have to open task manager to close the game. I asked Valve if there was a fix or a patch coming, but I got no reply, so I decided to ask the Escapist. Anyone know how to fix this?

I had the same problem, I fixed it by changing the screen resolution via console to 800 x 600. right click on the game, go to properties then set launch options, then put -w 600. I hope it helped, it worked for me(then I went to the options in the game and put my optimal screen resolution)

didn't work... oh well... it was fun for the 5 or so months I owned it... guess I just gotta wait for Valve to acknowledge everyone who's complaining about this and release a patch...

hate to break it to you, but no one patches 2 year old games.

Hate to break it to you, but last year Valve patched Half-Life 2 up to the new Source engine build.

And the subsequent patching to fix numerous bugs that occurred.

Valve's recent Team Fortress 2 patch proves you wrong. Valve supports their older games, and Left 4 Dead 2 is actually their most recent full-price release.

I had this problem myself. Just reset the game to factory defaults and it will run fine. At least it did for me.

Still almost annihilated the modding community for a while.

L4d2 has more than it's fair share of bugs. Valve tries to fix them by updating the source engine but often new problems are created. Crashes are normal affecting the majority of perceived "afkers." Frankly, the game is getting sort of old and no one takes it seriously anymore (arguably not very many people took it seriously from the beginning since it's a zombie killing game). People pretty much just expect there to be bugs and sometimes report major ones. I think valve is more concerned with trying to release Portal 2 and producing HL2 ep.3 or maybe a L4d3.

This one time when I was playing I was constantly opening and closing the safe room door on a few of my team mates and they ended up getting stuck in the door with no way to open or close it so we just had to kill them and close the door... I don't want them to fix it though it was too funny... and that's the only bug I can think of...

It has plenty of bugs, but it's still fun to play despite (or sometimes because of) them. Like earlier today, when the Ellis bot fell off a ladder to his supposed death, but survived because he got stuck on my head. I got a face full of Ellis-butt, but at least I got to keep the defib.

Yeah...if you're not on 360.

Where's the fix so I can play a gorram game of tf2 without some smartass engineer making a sentry in the sky!? Oh wait, you don't care, do you valve?

Gotta admit, though, l4d2's fairly well supported on consoles. I haven't had any major problems with it. My friend however, could play campaigns fine, but if he tried versus or scavenge, it would play for a while, then his Internet would cut out. No idea how that happens, especially as his Internet handles stuff like firefight, 16 player halo, and call of duty just fine.

yeah, i suppose Valve is an exception to the rule. plus, there's the Weekly Mutation, which i suppose includes some level of patching.

do you mean setting everything to the recommended settings? because I did this and it didn't work...
I tell ya, Valve's a great company, but Steam Support is SHIT. I sent in emails, I tried to contact them other ways, nothing. apparently this is a problem with a million different fixes, half of which have a 15% chance of working...
