What, in your opinion, is the best food to have as leftovers?

Mine is cooked turkey. Cold leftover turkey from Christmas or Thanksgiving, a squirt of Tabasco sauce and a fresh bun is the best leftover sandwich I know of.

So Escapist, what is your favorite food to eat after the initial cooking?

[sub][sub][sub]Yes, I totally just had three turkey buns. :D[/sub][/sub][/sub]

I love left-over Ham...I love left-over Pizza...I love left-over bacon...but I think Chili is the best when it comes to left over foods. As good as it is on day one, it just seems to taste better on day 2. Especially if it's in the form of Chili Mac because adding spaghetti noodles or angel hair pasta to chili is on the same level as finding the spreader in Contra...Just...Just perfect.

Agreed.

Also because it means that sometime in the past, you had piping hot Pizza delivered to your door.

This, but come on you have to microwave it! I can't stand cold food that is meant to be served hot.

Cold, leftover chicken burritos. Not just any burrito, mind you, but the godlike (yet remarkably affordable) burritos from a local taqueria.

Chili and stew are both quite good the second day. I think it's stew, especially, which actually gets better the second time 'round.

Pizza and Chinese food are the best the next day, and even cold.

There's very little amount of food that I will eat again the next day, but I did have leftover chili for lunch and it was awesome. :D

Sadly, I didn't make a chili dog or anything, just regular ole chili.

I've got to go with the classic cold pizza as well. There's something about it that's just....right.

Anything with lots of herbs and/or spices. The longer you let it sit (at least until it starts to go bad), the better it tastes, because the different flavors have more time to blend together.

Alternatively, the worst leftovers are anything breaded and fried, because fried food sucks when it gets soggy.

This. Mmmmmmmmm. It's my go to leftover favorite. Turkey or ham (depending on the holiday and what's left), a few drops of some salsa caliente, and might I suggest some jalapeno mustard. It's hard to find, so I just make my own. If you like mustard, I must emphatically suggest you give it a try.

Chili and pasta for me. I'll make a huge batch of chili or spaghetti just so that I can have the joy of eating all the leftovers ever.

Pasta is scary, though. One little mistake in reheating it and you're left with a rubbery flavorless mess. When it does turn out well, though, the results are phenomenal.

Alternatively, you could just combine every bit of leftovers you can find into one giant casserole/stew/thing. That rarely disappoints, in my experience. Even if the result is terrible, at least you can say that you tried something new. :D

Cold Donner Kebab with chilli sauce.

I get a massive one at my local takeaway after a night out and there is usually some left over for breakfast.

Incorrect.

Cold pizza has no business in a microwave, once a pizza has been refrigerated it is no longer meant to be served hot. It is no longer the hot and gooey cheesy goodness that you assembled with care and cooked on a stone or had delivered to your door. No, it is a thing of congealed fats and semisoggy but firm bread. The very act of re heating it, especially in the microwave has the potential to invoke the wrath of the elder Gods.

If you MUST re-heat pizza, put it in the oven for chrissakes.

Other than cold pizza some of the other good ones have already been posted Turkey and Chilli are both excellent multipurpose leftovers. Throw that turkey carcass in a big pot and make yourself some turkey barley soup! Turkey-stuffing-cranberry sauce sandwiches are effin awesome too.

Chilli? Sloppy Joes, "I know how you boys like em. Extra sloppy!" "Lady you're creeping us out". Chilli tacos, and chilli dogs are also up there.

I also recommend corned beef. Warmed up corned beef on rye with mustard is pretty sweet.

Oh, lets not forget your basic grilled steak or chicken. Fajitas anyone?

A nice steak.
When cold it becomes great finger-food.
With bread it becomes a steak sandwich.

I would agree with you with only the exception of rice. Rice is a ***** to reheat if you don't have a microwave. Which I do not. :/

Oh ho ho! This guy knows what he's talking about! Now, you could always reheat it and add steak sauce to make that sandwich even better! 8D

OT: I've always found that Italian food of pretty much any kind always end up great.
