I'm leery of any continuations, mainly because the Elder God would have to be recast. Given how amazing the voice cast for those games did, it'd be off to have someone else filling Tony Jay's shoes. I always thought it would be cool if the story came full circle though - with Kain in front of the pillars, once more given the chance to restore balance.

Edit: Escapist seems to have lost my avatar image. Screw you too.
Everyone lost their avatars a few days back when the tech crew got fired, nothing personal against you.

Not really a surprise, but a bit of a shame.

I played the game a bit early on. Needed some polish, especially in regards to UI, but I thought it was pretty fun.

Admittedly, not fun enough for me to bother going back to it later.

Thank fuck for that.

I've watched all the cutscenes of all the games, only played through Blood Omen 2 (which isn't even a proper LoK title) but never cleared Soul Reaver 1, 2 or Defiance (the Metroidvania gameplay bores me to sleep and the shitty combat can fuck right off), so I know basically everything there is to know. Thus I can speak with confidence when I say this "spin-off" thing should never ever have made it past the concept art phase. It had no reason to exist other than to please the dicks of shareholders once again, and now the damage is done, it's gonna get shitcanned and whatever hacks were behind it are probably not gonna find jobs again for it.

I mean what the fuck is up with this multiplayer creep in the past 6 years? The LoK series prided itself on an intricate singleplayer storytelling experience despite the perpetually shitty gameplay; one wonders why they couldn't just make movies out of the series and we wouldn't miss out on anything remotely significant.

But ever since series writer Amy Hennig isn't coming back and Tony Jay, the voice of the Elder God, passed away some time ago, we're not likely to see a finale anytime soon, barring a fucking miracle.

Maybe now, we'll get a conclusion to the story. I doubt it though, this run of the mill online multiplayer title and it's failure will probably equal there not being enough interest in the franchise. Because the people making these decisions are stupid.
I've been hearing things that Eidos is considering rebooting the LoK series, and if they do its not a poor decision as Defiance basically ended in a reboot-heavy way.
Plus with the attention that Eidos gave to Tomb Raider and Rise of the Tomb Raider, I think they could make a decent LoK game now. I hope they do.
Other funny note, Psyonix made Nosgoth and moved on to Rocket League.
Where did you hear that? Because I would be on board for that, so long as they finish the story the create for it.
I'm kinda curious how they actually could finish it though. Now my LoK history may be a bit sloppy but weren't the Hyldan defeated at the end of Blood Omen 2? Then again considering how awkwardly that one fit in it wouldn't surprise me if they decided to ignore it.
The hilden reappear in LOK Defiance, when Kain defeated them in bo2 they were banished to another realm. As the pillars get weaker the easier it is for the hilden to return.

Gee, it's almost like making a competitive multiplayer game to follow-up a franchise historically known for its single-player storyline wasn't a great idea.

Yeah but due to timey wimey stuff the events of BO2 take place after the end of LoK Defiance. That's the reason behind Janos Audron being held prisoner in BO2.

Man....that series always did make my head hurt.

Yeah its story takes some understanding that's for sure, it probably doesn't help that its been a long time since people played the games.

And nothing of value was lost?

Lore-wise, the third-person adventure genre is where the Nosgoth setting shines. I'd take an RPG, anything that lets me interact with characters of note and of some importance to the setting - but reducing this to "Vampires VS Humans, rawr!" was just incredibly misguided.

Legacy of Kain and Soul Reaver aren't themselves if you aren't sticking Michael Bell and Simon Templeman in front of an overly-verbose script. End of.

You mean the multiplayer spin off that no one really wanted to the story rich Legacy of Kain series didn't attract and hold a large player base?

Shocking.

I know it wasn't a perfect conclusion in Defiance but, for me, it worked. Yeah, the Elder God wasn't killed and Kain was looking out over an uncertain future but that actually appeals to me. An ending where not every little thread is tied into a neat little package is rare.

Plus, as has been said: Tony Jay is dead and the writers/cast have scattered to the winds. Sometimes, it's best to let things be. Otherwise, you get an isometric tactics sequel to a third-person shooter that goes into Inuit mythology rather than wrapping up the storylines from the preceding games.
