For those of you who don't know the second season/book of Avatar: The Legend of Korra (the sequel to The Last Airbender) is being premiering this Friday at 7pm (probably PST). The second book is titled "Spirits" and looks like its focusing heavily on the spirit world and the history of the previous avatars. I've attached the book 2 trailer below.

If you're interested and already have or haven't seen book 1 your invited to join the Legend of Korra Escapist Group (http://www.escapistmagazine.com/groups/view/The-Legend-of-Korra). The group has quieted down a fair bit in the lull between seasons, but like last time I'll try and have a stream up to every episode within a few hours of the air time (probably early Saturdays this time round). Additionally if you haven't seen the first season (or want to rewatch it) we have a whole compiled archive of links to every episode (both ones that should work in and out of the US).

Anyways is everyone excited? What do you think we can expect based on the trailer?
Also:
There is some posts on the internet stating that that we'll get to see the very first avatar and learn some of his story.

God damn, that series has some badass music.

Not sure where they're going to take it though. Didn't the first season end with the bad guy vanquished, all his works undone and Korra's OP avatar mojo good to go? Where does the core conflict go from there?

This is a spoiler for the first season, so only open it if you really want to know, or if you've already seen season one but forgot parts.
Yes, Amon was defeated and all of his anti-bending work mostly undone, or at least damaged. And Korra did unlock the Avatar state, she was even able to restore the Bending to everyone that Amon "cleansed", but at the end Korra could only Air-bend, she hadn't been able to restore her other elements.
So season two is most likely going to be about her trying to regain her ability to Earth, Water and Fire-bend in addition to whatever conflicts pop up.

Do we really have to do the spoiler tags... oh fine.

That's incorrect. At the end, after going all glowy-eyed, she got back all her abilities. Just before she kissed What'shisname, she summoned a wave and a wind, moved some rocks and shot fire, in quick succession.

Ehh. I'm not going to watch it on TV. If it goes up on Hulu, Amazon, or Netflix, I'll watch it then. It's a good enough show, but the only show I try and watch whenever it's new on TV is The Venture Bros.

Hell yeah! It feels like I've been waiting for this forever! I dont know if they'll manage to top the first story, but its decent enough so far.

Good to know that it will premier soon and it have more episodes compared to the last season (well ok two more but still) especially when some of the current shows I've watched had ended (Axe Cop, TNMT, Gravity Fall and Futurama).

I hope that now that they know that it will have a bit of a run, the story pacing will get much better. I liked the first season, but it moved VERY fast compared to The Last Airbender. I will watch it either way though, and I am quite excited for it to be on on friday.

Not sure if its the same and you're willing to except it as a substitute, but with book 1 streams were up pretty quick (usually 3-5 hours) and nick posted it a bit after the episode aired. For the nick one you have to be American though or use something like Media Hint.

Haha that video. As much as it would mess up the story I kinda want that to happen lol. I know I shouldn't but it would be hilarious :)

I'm so buzzed it is not funny. I'm like the crazy foamy mouth fan guy from the original series when the new series was announced.

Probably the only thing that equals my excitement is that Kill La Kill anime by the ex Gainax (?) guys. Female protagonists probably.

Thanks for the heads up, OP! I was wondering when this was going to start up again.

Breaking Bad, Hell on Wheels & Korra is making TV more interesting again.

Hopefully they don't murder the entire season in the last 10 minutes of the last episode like they did with Book 1.

Also hopefully we see more flashbacks of grown-up Aang, Zuko, Toph, Sokka, etc. By the end of Book 1 I realized that I was far more interested in the flashbacks, than the unlikeable teenage twats introduced in LoK (Korra being the worst). I get she was SUPPOSED to be portrayed as an angsty teen constantly making stupid decisions and generally coming across as a tool, but it only made me dislike her more and more with each episode.

Maybe they'll also manage to step up the humor, because it felt quite forced and awkward in Book 1 sticking to a strict formula of *someone does/says something stupid/silly* > *onlooker gives a disapproving/frustrated expression* > *repeat*

(Sorry if I come off as bitter, really wasn't impressed with LoK as much as others were and find myself constantly comparing it to ATLA and digging-up more criticism than positive feedback.)

The series appears to have moved on from Republic City. Which is shameful, because half the reason I fell in love with The Legend of Korra was because of Republic City's charm, civilians, politics, limits, and technological advantages. It's a lot like why I loved it in The Last Airbender when they were stuck in Ba Sing Se for several episodes.

I'm still going to watch it and probably like it. But since the first season slaughtered off Amon and Tarrlok in the last few minutes of the finale, how can they hope to have antagonists just as good as two bloodbending, corrupted, politically untouchable brothers?

Thanks for posting that trailer, I hadn't seen it until just now. And mmmmmmmmmmmmfffff...I like what I see.

Now in the beginning I didn't like Legend of Korra too much, due to pro-bending being boring as hell in my opinion and the plot going nowhere fast for the first several episodes, as well as some other smaller complaints, but I thought it really picked up by the end of the first season. The finale was incredible, pretty much on par with The Last Airbender's season finales. Still, I've retained a skeptical view on the series as a whole and where it might be going in Book 2. Watching that trailer gave me a little shiver, nevertheless; it looks like we'll indeed see some more of the past avatars, including Aang, and I hope the spirit world will provide the sense of grand adventure and setting variety that LOK's first season was severely lacking.

I gotta say, I'm excited now.

They did that because they didn't know if Nik was going to give them more seasons. So they wanted to end it in the case that it didn't work out. I don't know why Nik didn't trust them with multiple seasons considering how successful A:TLA was.

Ya from what I remember it was a mix of that and possibly (can't remember if this is correct) them not knowing how long the season was going to be. I thought when Korra was first announced it was supposed to be a small mini-series but I could be wrong.

Oh joy... I wonder if they can make her even more insufferable this season. I don't know if I should waste my time... but I feel like I'll be forced to since it is one of the better things in western animation... Shit.
