Okay, I'm sorry, but Korrasami is canon.
You're just being embarrassingly dense at this point, if you're still in denial.

*Prince Wu leaves*
"Real sorry about the arm, Makko, and thanks for blowing up the doomsday robot."
"I'll follow you into battle even when it gets nuts."
*smile*
*cut to Tenzin talking to Korra*

*Asami walks up*
"Hey Tenzin, there's a distraction, let me be alone with Korra."
"Come sit alone with me for a bit, Asami. By the way, I'm sorry I was gone for three years. I know you're the only one I wrote too in that whole time, but you're also the only one I feel the need to apologize to."
"No need to apologise to me! I'm just glad you're here now. While EVERYONE else we know was also in mortal peril all day today, I couldn't handle losing my father and YOU in the same day."
"I'm so sorry about your dad..."
"Thanks. I'm just glad I was able to forgive him..."
"So, what now? Want to dance?"
"No... After all this insanity and tragedy, I need a vacation."
"Let's do it! Seriously! Let's go on a vacation together, just you and me! Personal Avatar magic carpet ride to anywhere you want to go!"
"Really!? Well, how about your personal magical fairy kingdom that other humans aren't normally allowed to see unless it's an apocalyptic emergency?"
"Sounds perfect."
*It cuts to Korra and Asami holding hands and walking into the light together, and then hold both hands gazing into each others' eyes as the magical light takes them to Korra's personal magical fairy kingdom where they can be free of all other humans and this is THE LAST THING THE SHOW WANTS YOU TO SEE*

So you know what that song is that starts playing as they cut to Korra and Asami holding hands?
'The Avatar's Love'
Remember when we last heard that, as ATLA ended on Aang and Katara?
Yea.
This ship sailed.

"YOU GOTTA DEAL WITH IT!" - 4 year-old Korra

they really can't do the a gay romance without causing a lot of trouble but this is a pretty dawn good attempt at it
it such a nice ending. PS they always have to be sublet to a degree with homosexual relationships.

I feel like the creators definitely were subtly implying SOMETHING at the end there. That is...

All kidding aside, they could easily just be best friends. Girls are all touchy and shit; I've seen my sister give more passionate hugs to her gal pals. Honestly I wish Bolin and Mako would have come running in and joined them on the trip, that would have been a much more solid ending. Leaving them out of the loop just feels kind of wrong.

Somewhat lackluster ending aside, the finale was FANTASTIC. I was very against the giant robot, and still am, but they found a way to make it quite intense. My eyes were glued to the screen the whole time.

I have to say the way it was handled was quite brilliant

I personally like the pairing of Korra and Asami, and the ending was just the confirmation I needed to consider it canon, but I can see why someone would not see it as confirmed, and they're able to perceive the ending just as they want it, they left it just open ended enough that people could reach their own conclusion based on what they perceive

Another thing I want to say, I watch this show with my grandparents, trying to spend time with them while I still can, and I was anxious to see their reaction to the ending

They love the show, but I know my grandfather has never shown much support towards homosexuality, I don't perceive it has hate, but he has shown his disapproval on several occasions, when I looked at him as Korra and Asami went into the spirit portal he was teary eyed, and when it was over he called the show wonderful

I like it. Not only was it a victory lap, hell yeah kinda moment - but it works. They've had a natural chemistry with each other since the beginning, and if you look at the overall arch, especially from the 4th season, you can see they both have their own shy, 'is this really love' kinda moments. They've been flirting, enjoying eachothers company, confiding in one another, comforting one another, and even arguing with one another in a way that fits the motif of love. I felt that the Korra Asami love they've been hinting at worked a hell of a lot better then Mako and Korra.

And yes, I do think it meant what people thinks it means. If you think it's ambiguous, imagine one of them as a male character. Would you say 'they're just really good friends' or would you think 'they're on a one way ticket to bone town'. I dunno, I usually don't hold someones hands and look longingly into their eyes unless it's meaningful.

Not only was it well written and well executed, but it's also a big thing. Homosexual relationships are still taboo. A cartoon (it's anime, but, you get the point) on a kids network that normalizes homosexuality is a big thing. Call me a 'Social Justice Warrior' if you wish, but I think a good way to normalize homosexuality and make it less of a thing people are harassed and beaten up over is through stuff like this. And it was done in a way where it works.

I don't really know why we need all these relationships, but then
Well, when a story decides to include them, they often act as a good barometer for overall story health. If relationships, familial or platonic or romantic or otherwise, are well-realized, it's usually a sign that the overall story is well-realized. For my part, this particular relationship was the sole well-written one, and it kind of reflects my feelings about the show as a whole: on average, nothing to write home about, but its finest moments make for some great entertainment.

Well, they aren't lesbians since they had straight relationships that just didn't work out (not because of their sexual preference but due to partners fucking up / not having the same feelings). They are bisexual.
It would be premature to label them as anything other than (assuming that last scene implies what it does, because it totally implies what it does) being in love with each other. There are plenty of real-world examples of LGBT/straight people trying out different sexualities before settling on one or deciding to not settle on one. It's not that either is the case here, but simply that the story stops short of concretely answering that question. But that's getting a rather bit into the semantics of it all.

I mean despite the Zuko/Katara fan shipping and their good heartfelt moments
I've always wondered if shippers ship these two more out of "they look visually appealing with each other" or "there was actual chemistry between them"; I'd almost rather it be the former because I can only imagine that the emotional baggage each carries with them regarding each other would stifle any meaningful romantic connection.

I'm still of the opinion that a lot of season 1 and season 2's problems came from the production side.
Oh, without a shadow of a doubt. I'd say, though, that season 1 was the hands-down best of the lot, with the problems coming after, like you said, Nick suddenly demanded more seasons. Yeah, they stumbled with season 2 and started getting back on track with 3 and 4, but really, all three of the latter seasons were set back by having to follow up on what was supposed to be a done deal. Which is why I find it puzzling that people would decry season 2 as being particularly bad when they all shared the same problems.

Yes they could, and the show would be no worse for it. But I prefer it my way. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=azKfAfZeSpM]

Though they did put it on the internet instead so that might explain why they decided to go through with the scene. Even still... holy jesus.
First off, kudos on the Max reference. Always brings a smile to my face when people like things I like.

I would imagine that the overall upscale in "mature" content would be the reason for the move off the air. Characters said the words die and kill, characters actually died and killed, and yes, the romantic subtext brewing between the two female leads. Small victory that it was shown at all, I suppose, but that doesn't stop the bad taste in my mouth that the producers were so intrusive and overbearing. Yes, it's a kid's show, but surely the lesson to be learned from TLA is that kid's shows can handle this kind of subject matter and you, Nick, are strong enough to handle the immediate backlash and reap all the long-term rewards. But alas, you'll just be known as the restrictive medium through which the creators had to slog in order to get their endeavor out into the world.

Kind of ignores the crux of my issues but whatever. In fact this is only tangentially related to what I said.

I was genuinely surprised they went in that direction. I don't mind, just surprised.

I suspected that they'd do a nod to it, and I was like "called it" when they decided to go on a holiday together alone. Then they held hands? "ok, more than I was anticipating". Then the final frames. "Oh god, they've just gone full Korra and Asami confirmed". That's all cool, but wow. Just didn't see them confirming it.

Still, great ending to a fantastic series.

Also, anyone know what the final words on the screen meant?

The End. They used the same characters in Avatar: The Last Airbender.

The End

They did the same when Avatar: The Last Airbender ended

I like the usage of Chinese letters, adds some character to the show, unlike Shyamalan's movie where the letters were exchanged with made up gobbledygook

EDIT: Damn, few seconds too late

You know, I only ship three things, and none of them are things that the canon doesn't also support.
I dunno if I support them because the source does, and that's why they make sense to me.....or if they just make so much sense that both myself and the source can't help but acknowledge how perfect they are.
It really makes me wonder....

Korrasami

Peebles & Marcy

And
Spider-Man & the Black Cat
(which only DOESN'T work, because Peter Parker and Felicia Hardy don't also go together...)

I fucking hate this season. It was absolute trash insulting to the intelligence on nearly every turn. Be it the ham fisted shit dialogue, the total character shifts, moles understanding flanking manuevers, the most peaceful hostile takeover of a nation ever, or an entire city being leveled with a SINGLE casualty you knew was going to die the second he showed up, it was all just stupid stupid crap. My favorite is the empress of the earth empire becoming such because she had mommy and daddy issues. True insightful storytelling right there. "I'm sowwy evewy one, I know I blew up your city, but after actually talking about this for a single minute, I realized I was being a bad guy. Sowwy sowwy sowwy."

I only heard about the Korrasami idea after the episode when Korra blushes after Asami compliments her. When I heard that people thought they might get together I was like 'Korra and Asami? Pah! Wishful thinking romanticists. Some people will see anything in cartoons!'
Then I went back and watched the scene more closely and saw The Blush and was like.... Huh.
So then I thought about it some more, how Asami was the only person Korra could confide in, how they had this little connection building and how they were super friendly and on the same level. Still unconvinced I decided to keep an eye out for it.

Then THIS episode. I was thinking "They better not imply Korrasami here at the end or we'll never hear the end of it from the Korrasami beleivers" then when they said they should go on a holiday, "just the two of them", and they hold hands and walk into the spirit energy.

I laughed so hard, and applauded loudly. There was general cheering in fact. I think I heard Ewoks singing at one point. Such a perfect ending! I can forgive them for everything they did wrong now because Korrasami? It's REAL people! It's fuckin REAL and now we all know it! Raise the flags and chant the victory songs!

I wasn't even interested in the idea until that ending. Such perfection.

I liked the ending, hopefully they'll make some comics after the series (like they've done with Aang and the gang), but it did feel rushed.

I think a season in the spirit world would have been something amazing.
But, Nick screwed them over time and time again.

Also:
What were the final two Chinese characters at the VERY end of the episode?
