OT: I might have to put everything else I've been watching/playing on hold for a while to watch Star Trek: TOS again. That franchise is one of the biggest reasons I enjoy science fiction, and it was in no small part thanks to all of the characters and actors.
I don't even like Kirk-era Trek and I'm still bummed out. Just goes to show how much of an impact he made on sci-fi and nerd culture.

He will be missed. A good man has passed and a cultural icon of a character fades into history with him.

This really took me for a turn. He shall be greatly missed. Some of my fondest memories are watching Star Trek Original Series with my mum and dad and a bowl of popcorn with some coke. Such a fantastic actor. May he Rest in Peace.

I just saw another Priceline commercial with Shatner having to rise from being slightly bent at the waist, an effort which make him finish the shot with his mouth open and him hoping we don't notice it's him panting for breath, and it's hard for me to credit that Shatner was the healthier of the two.Dirty Hipsters said:

I honoured his memory by watching his appearance in Columbo "A Stitch in Crime".
One of the best episodes of Columbo and my first exposure to him outside of Star Trek.
It's a shame we have to lose so many celebrities that we've grown up with. Every since James Avery (Uncle Phil) passed on it feels like we lose another beloved actor from my upbringing every month.
That's reality I suppose.

I grew up on Trek. Both my parents watched TOS in the '60s, and when they grew up and had me in the late '80s, right when TNG debuted, Star Trek became the cornerstone of my childhood. You are never ready for when this happens. I can't even fully feel this, but I know it is a tragedy for that little kid I sometimes still am.
I heard late last night, and I responded immediately by watching "Amok Time." A timeless classic, just like Mr. Nimoy.
