Having the day off, and being too drained to do anything today but sit in front of my computer and whistle the day away, I thought I'd ask a question to anyone willing to answer on the escapist. Lots of people are scared of various kinds of dangerous/creepy animals (For a number of reasons) and there are the obvious culprits. Spiders, Sharks, Snakes, Extinct monsters who are thankfully long gone like the Megalodon, etc...

I personally do not find any of these examples all that scary, not that I make habit of hanging out with any of them. The one animal that does make my spine shiver though is the Goliath Tigerfish (Feel free to google it or watch the episode of the show River monsters where the host goes after them) Not only do these fish look like something from a low budget sci fi flick you'd catch on Space at 2 a.m., but it has wicked interlocking razor sharp teeth on what is basically an assembly of two jaws, allowing it to take even bigger bites than a fish of its size normally could.

Now it is a native of Africa, and not having any wish to go there even before I learned of this fish, I know I'll never see one in person, But fear is usually an irrational thing. So I was hoping people could post here the animal(s) they find the scariest which are not on the following list of most common scary animals and why. Thanks all

Bears
Sharks
Jellyfish
Snakes
Spiders
Venomous/lethal Insects
Lions or tigers
Bats
Crocodiles / Alligators

I find the Komodo Dragon scary, they can kill you in multiple ways and they run pretty fast and can climb fucking trees. I probably won't ever encounter one in the wild but if I did that would be a scary encounter.

They're not particularly obscure, but these:
They're arguably responsible for the most animal related fatalities in the U.S. per year, and most of them aren't nearly as hunky. Horses are up there, too. I've met people scared of horses before though.

Koalas, dont find em scary but I sincerely hate em. Kids think they might be cute but they will eat your face if given the chance.

Well, not an animal, but bees and wasps scare the jeebus out of me. I am allergic, so I guess a good fear to have. I just end up ducking and weaving if I hear one; looks like I am having some sort of fit.

Oh, and Chobock the unicorn that likes to eat peoples faces...but that is a different story.

They're in the animal kingdom, they're just not mammals or chordates. No backbone, no skeleton. Sorry 'bout the allergy, my dad has that. I don't... Sometimes I pat that fuzzy yellow part on the back of honeybees when I see them. So far, they've always ignored me and flown to the next flower.

Here's what we are: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deuterostome
As seen in the picture on the left, compared to us, bees have their mouth and their ass reversed. As far as I can tell, that's why they're hard on the outside and uniformly squishy on the inside.

Poisonous/stinging sealife like stonefish and well, the jellyfish from the list, scare me.

Parasites scare the hell out of me, especially the ones that cause schistosomiasis and the brain-eaters. *shudder*

Go and say that to a honey badger. Go up to a honey badger and say "You are an internet meme, therefore lame"

Never troll a honey badger. :)

I once waited hours at a zoo to see a honey badger. Hours. Never came out of its hole, the blighter.

May Bugs. They don't scare me as such but I hate the damn things. Nasty noise they make, large, if they get in your house they bang around like someone with a hammer.

Most of the things mentioned in this short song:

Although those are pretty common things that I don't come into contact with and also mostly fill the list of things not to include lol. But I like the song.

Seagulls also. Vicious unrelenting nasty creatures.

Tapirs. I can't help but find them creepy.

Also snakes, crocodiles and oddly enough birds. The latter is an inherited phobia though.

I did, he cried. I slapped him afterwards.

Badgers are mean...

However, I'm going to pose a Sphere reference here and say...giant squid.

You see, a giant squid is, while rare, a literal monster. It's a real-life creature of the deep which has no special instinct regarding humans. you know who their natural predators are? Whales. They fight whales, and sometimes they win. Now, this is a deep sea creature and, if you see it anywhere else but in a large boat, you're screwed.

Giant squids are streamlined and they can be QUICK. Their tentacles zip around in water like your hand through air. They have an eyeball the size of a beachball and will glare unblinkingly (no eyelids) and without comprehension at you. This is, after all, an animal, a predator. It's an unreasoning thing that does not know even the slightest peaceful behavior, unlike some whales.

This sort of thing extends from an optional battle with a giant flying squid in Skies of Arcadia..
