Michael Jackson? His family loved the publicity, and used it to their advantage to get money for themselves. It was disgusting.
Didn't they get like a billion dollars (literally) in the year since he died?

Anyway, I've always been suspect of his father - Jackson died, and his Dad was interviewed 2 days later and he kept going on about getting to manage the business side of things.

Back on topic; anyone noticed how no one cared for Michael Jackson until he died, then suddenly he became the indisputable KING OF POP, and his musical genius was the greatest the world had seen etc.
I'm assuming you're under 20. See he was once that guy when he was alive, it was just back in the 80's. But yes all the crazy stuff people thought of when they thought of him suddenly disappeared when he died. People try to remember the dead in the best light they can.
It's undisputed that Micheal Jackson was one of the single best musicians ever, but people did forget all the terrible, terrible things he was accused of doing, and of course all the terrible stuff he actually did do. So yeah, in the best light and all that, but we can't just ignore the bad.

About Jim Morrison, yes I do think he is worthy of all the praise anyone could give him. The Doors were that awesome, in my opinion. However, he's been dead for 39 years, so I don't see what the big fucking deal is.

Typical behaviour of the media. Anything that can possible turn a profit is milked as much as possible. Sure, I liked MJ's music, but I didn't really feel anything at his death.

Exactly! They even used it to release their own bloody songs. Janet even went on the X Factor! Half of them sided against him during all the allegations so they could make money selling storys to newspapers, but suddenly when he dies they are all angels and act as thought they always supported him no matter what!
it was a terrifing day at school when he died, the principle came in all classes and made a tribute to him while half my class was singing his songs all day. disgusting in my opinion

The first time I heard Michael Jackson passed away, I wasn't shocked nor all that sad, heck, I didn't really care. I did start caring when the media started bashing our heads in with ploys to get attention over his death.

And now they're saying his body is missing or something? Just let it go, they're dumb rumors.

Kurt Cobain has actually made more money since he died then when he was alive so I see your point, but it's just tragic when an amazing artist passes.

That is true, actually.
There was people crying in my home town and I seemed like the only person that was "meh".
Yes, he was a talented artist, but I just wasn't able to care.

Bad news. Musical nostalgia is a powerful thing, and there will always be some hardcore contingent that idolizes a certain artist or composer - witness Mozart and Lassus, whose works are highly revered by select musical scholars and auteurs (myself included). So suck it up, stop raving, and seethe quietly as Jim Morrison gets a weepy eulogy from an obsessed DJ (for the record, I don't like Morrison's music either).

Madeleine (you know the little girl who dissapeared in Portugal)
She was only exploited by the news stations so that they'd have something interesting to report on (for almost two years, nonstop)

Jade Goody has been the worst i've seen. She was just a normal person, not famous for any reason other than being on tv. Nobody particularly wanted to make a fuss over her, it was just the fucking media who latched onto her for no obvious reason.

Then comes the worst. She gets cancer, sure it's sad, but here's when the media decides to follow her every step. She gets on tv shows, has like 50 books written about her, and when she passes away there's a fucking PARADE. You would have expected less fuss if the president died >.<

Nobody deserves what she got, it just bothers me that they had absolutely no reason to follow her. She's only famous because they wanted her to be.

With reference to your Jim Morrison example, I think its ok to talk about how much you miss such a talented and iconic musician... Although I agree that a celebrities death should not be marketed, Jim Morrison does deserve some kind of big package of his best stuff... The Doors Greatest Hits I own is good but there is so many good songs missing from it... And they keep releasing that same album with a new cover. Next year is his 40th annaversary, maybe something good will come then.

But yeah, nobody should use someones death for money... I surprised I havn't been bombarded will Dio merchandise since his death. But in a way its sad, its as though everyone has just forgot about him.
His wife has been doing various things in his memory, with the money going to fight cancer. I'm not sure on specifics, I assume cds and I do know there are shirts in Dio's memory. Rest assured, he is not forgotten.

Anyway, I agree in a way. I think it's extremely annoying, and distasteful to market a celebrities death. But it is nice to have the tribute stuff, I have a jumper with a tribute to Dimebag Darrel for one thing.

What, baseless accusations that were thrown out of court and only came about in the first place because Jackson settled with $30 million in an earlier case that was easier to pay than fight because he was richer than God? Yeah, let's focus on that.

When Michael Jackson died, that's all you heard about for months. Now, I was a Michael Jackson fan. I have been, even through the trials. I've always loved his music and his videos. Then all of the sudden, everyone is a Michael Jackson fan and can't stop talking about how much they miss him even though just a week before they were making fun of him.
