MJ has always been the undisputed King of Pop, it certainly wasn't something that happened after his death.

Also, if any of the money made went to his children then I'd be glad to purchase his albums (again). He was in some pretty dire financial straights just before he died, haven't heard much of it sense.

Wow, all the hate on Courtney Love, I can't believe it.

And I don't really believe that it bothers Jim or Kurt that people remember them so fondly, after all they are dead.

Back on topic; anyone noticed how no one cared for Michael Jackson until he died, then suddenly he became the indisputable KING OF POP, and his musical genius was the greatest the world had seen etc.
I'm assuming you're under 20. See he was once that guy when he was alive, it was just back in the 80's. But yes all the crazy stuff people thought of when they thought of him suddenly disappeared when he died. People try to remember the dead in the best light they can.
It's undisputed that Micheal Jackson was one of the single best musicians ever, but people did forget all the terrible, terrible things he was accused of doing, and of course all the terrible stuff he actually did do. So yeah, in the best light and all that, but we can't just ignore the bad.
What, baseless accusations that were thrown out of court and only came about in the first place because Jackson settled with $30 million in an earlier case that was easier to pay than fight because he was richer than God? Yeah, let's focus on that.
I was thinking more the ridiculous amounts of plastic surgery, his inability to accept adult responsibility, and, you know, the whole baby out the window thing.

i agree so much you can't even begin to understand
everyone was making pedophile jokes about him liking young boys and once he kicked the bucket everyone changed their tune. like WTF?
he was an alright singer and I like Billie jean but i am not going to idolize him as being the king of pop or something so grand when he was just making music.
Michael Jackson has been considered the "King of Pop" since the 1980`s....You must be either really young or never listened to his music to think that this was some sort of recent trend.

uh no i am fully aware about how popular he was in 1980's
but before he became deceased many people were calling him a pedophile and then once he kicked the bucket everyone under 15 realized that he was truly the king of pop and started putting MJ's face on everything.

SO I was listening to the Radio the other day in the car and after playing 10 song by The Doors, the announcer comes on and gets all nostalgic, saying that he sincerely misses Jim Morrison and that he was a wonderful musician and that he hopes they comes out with a tribute package in order to give a full taste of his musical prowess.

Now I'm going to set the fact that I personally do not like the music of The Doors. I personally don't like the vocals. I'm also setting aside the very OBVIOUS marketing that I heard in the tone of the radio host. I digress.

Have you ever heard of an artist that has been long, or recently dead, and just wished that for five seconds people would let them rest in peace?

For example: When Heath Ledger passed away, sure there was a large fuss due to an iconic image leaving us, but for the longest time afterwards merchandise, movie packages, and everything that could be tied to Heath's name was being marketted and sold. The dude just passed away, why must they market his death?

What are your thoughts and opinions? Are there any artists that you think should just be allowed to rest and not be marketed about?
Let him rest in peace?? How the hell is being nostalgic and merely mentioning someone who is dead equate to not letting them rest in peace? They aren't exhuming his remains or anything, or dessecrating his grave. I think you have more going on with this subject then merely wishing for people to respect the dead... and besides, Jim Morrison is in no postiion to really give a shit.

And capitalizing on ones death is a very old ploy... entire religions have been built on it. As soon as someone is dead we have a tendancy to give them more leniancy and thought, it's just how people are. It's not hardly a moderm phenomenon.

Now I really hope that my eyes deceived me when I saw this. I dont think so, but I did only catch a glance. In a local grocery store, I saw some guy wearing a t-shirt, that had the iconic cut out silhouette of Michael Jackson with one arm raised and his leg cocked in a "finale" dancing pose.

This pose:

but cut out similarly to:

that read, and this i am certain of "He died for me... I will live for him"

I have to belive my eyes were deceiving me.. because that is just horrendous. Not that Im a fan in any way, but seriously if he is dead, let him be dead.

Maybe Michael Jackson. When his funeral started, my fan got burned. So he WAS a fan of Michael Jackson. I feel sorry for the fan though. So much time working...

But other than that I do not care really.

Kurt Cobain has actually made more money since he died then when he was alive so I see your point, but it's just tragic when an amazing artist passes.
To be fair though, the band was only around 7 years, and at a time when bootlegging first became popular. So he's been dead a lot longer than nirvana has been around

His plastic surgery is up to him - it is his body. I don't judge you for playing videogames all the time (if you do - it's not important). Hardly 'bad', just not what I would choose to do. "Inability to accept adult responsibility" is a fuzzy one. Seemed to accept it pretty well in terms of doing his job phenomenally well, providing for his nuclear family as well as an extended family of leeches. If you mean things like living in a theme park then I couldn't agree with you less - the man knew what he wanted and knew he could afford it - why not do it just because society's normative values dictate that what he finds fun he shouldn't? Adults playing videogames still have to jump over this sort of societal bullying.

I'll give you 'baby out the window' though.

This is why I'm Anti-Capitalist and Anti-Religious. They exploit the passing of an artist by (every now and then) reselling everything and making more money. I don't care if it's been done ni the past. Infact, the more it's done, the worse it gets. People are making money off the fact that they died. it's not about being nostalgic, it's about making money.

With plastic surgery I was thinking more being so incredibly insecure in his own body that he just threw money at it instead of coming to terms with his own faults. Yeah I'd live in a theme park if I had the money but it wasn't just that, he invited kids over to sleep, showered them with presents, played with them and, whether or not you think he did it, that is highly irresponsible for an adult, especially in the ways he did this. Plus his "eccentric" moves such as his wardrobe malfunctions and such are more examples of his irresponsibility.
