So Duke Nukem Forever has built up a reputation of being THE WORST GAME OF ALL TIME. For various reasons.

Reasons I don't understand.

...I was one of the SIZABLE handful of people that actually, genuinely enjoyed Duke Nukem Forever. I know, it's uncanny. I'm not stupid either. At least, I don't think so. ...regardless, I always tend to get crap for liking the game. Moreso than liking other games people don't like. When I say I liked Superman 64, for example, no-one bats an eyelid. When I say I liked Duke Nukem Forever, I'm a social pariah and the scum of gaming and the reason the industry is in the atrocious shape it's in now. ...huh.

What I'm trying to say is that Duke Nukem Forever, for all its flaws, was an extremely enjoyable game by the standards of a hell of a lot of reasonable and intelligent people. The shooting was functional, if nothing else, the level design and progression was wildly varied and interesting, and the humour... well, I'm kind of inclined not to say anything of the humour. Our tastes in humour are the most subjective we have. So if I say "the game was ironically hilarious and I loved how it played out as a parody of itself," that sentence holds no water whether you agree or not. So we'll let that by for now.

...my point being that while Duke Nukem Forever wasn't great, and was a massive disappointment, there's a lot to like inside it depending on your taste, and I'm thinking that it does the game a disservice to treat it like it destroyed gaming, or what have you. Does it mean you should try to like the game? Or sing its praises in the street? Lord no. But give the game its due - it didn't give you AIDS. It didn't soil gaming forever. And whether it's objective or subjective, the game was not - by ANY stretch of the word - a "horrible" game.

Let bygones be bygones, and let the game be nothing more than what it is - the sweat and tears of hundreds of developers, finally realized and put to rest in disc form. And moderately enjoyable to boot. And if you can't do that, well, at least let them work on a from-the-ground-up sequel before saying the franchise is dead.

You liked Superman64? o_O UNFORGIVABLE!!

But seriously, I didn't mind DNF at all. It was exactly how I expected it to be, so I wasn't disappointed at all.

Now, to me, Dragon Age 2 was a worse game than DNF. DNF at least had a better plot.

Was never into Duke Nukem even when it was cool; will never be into it. However, I can forgive it. How much are you willing to pay for said indulgence? ;D

Or how about we let people have their opinions? I played it, found nothing in the game even remotely good. I wouldn't call it the worst game of all time, and I haven't seen anyone else call it that. It was definitely the biggest disappointment of any game, but not the worst game.

.....WTF is wrong with you!?!? *Starts throwing Holy Water on you*

Nah all joking aside, I have no problem with Duke Nukem Forever. I'm kinda disheartened that it didn't turn out as well as I hoped, but as Yahtzee said

"Anything with 13 years of built up expectations and hope is bound to massively disappoint the moment it's released"

No problems here though. I kinda liked it despite it's toilet humor I caught a few chuckles from here and there.

You liked it, congratulations.

I still think it was trash and will insult it relentlessly.

I despise the game but I'll try.

It had the best version of Grabbag ever. Also, the ego boost tune could make a pretty neat notification chime for a smartphone/cell phone.

I didn't think DNF was half bad. I would have liked it more if you could kill friendlies and if you could kill people in general using nothing but poo but those are minor grievances. I also don't understand why everyone kept going on about how horrible it looked. It wasn't the most beautiful game I've ever lain eyes upon of course but I thought it looked pretty good. A bit dark but it was a good looking game.

OOOOh nice Avatar Change. Eventhough I liked the Noob Saibot one quite a bit, but considering it's Discord I can accept that as awesomeness

Other way around, Dragon Age 2 at least had A plot. Duke Nukem doesn't even try to have a plot (and that's not just Forever but all the games).

There's no way it has that reputation. In fact it doesn't even hold worst game of the year. Dragon Age 2 gets that one.

Duke Nuken doesn't need a plot. It needed to be an over-the-top fps that's exaggerated in every way possible.

Never mind DNF. I'm still disappointed I didn't like Duke Nukem II as much as the first one.

I agree. That was the most expensive drink coaster I have ever bought.

@fanific.

I should specify; DNF has more of a coherent plot than DA2. DA2 was all over the place, and much of it was nonsense and didn't make much sense.

DNF was actually a pretty good alround, a game which I'm pretty sure many would find enjoyment out of playing.

Yes it wasn't AAA standard, and yes it's a living fossil, but by god does it not care.

DID YOU TAKE NOTHING FROM MY OP ;-;

...the gameplay was fine, if you like that sort of thing. The acting was actually pretty good, at least on Jon St. John's end. The graphics were well-rendered (though the majority of human characters looked and were animated atrociously), the environments were staggeringly varied (and that's objective, no-one can say the progression of hotel - Las Vegas casino - alien hive - strip club - burger bar is "unvaried," despite the muddy brown look that tied them all together).

Duke Nukem is a parody of Duke Nukem. It doesn't need a plot, and if it has one, it's because it's parodying one. A plot half-baked because that's the joke, compared to a plot that was messy because Bioware wanted a trilogy so rushed to fill in Part II, comes out on top, to be honest.
