In this thread we shall have a basic idea of a game and all share our ideas of innovative game mechanics to add. The fun in it is too what we all end up making.

The Basic Idea: Third Person, Sci Fi. That is all. (You must work with the ideas already stated other wise your changing the game.)

My idea for a game mechanic would be that the playable character shall seriously cool shoes that allow him to grip to any surface with them for what ever purpose. (Snapping necks while upside down, sneaking past sentries, hiding from what ever monster you decide)

EDIT: Oh and the game will be called "Made by the amazing Escapist Community"

how about a game mechanic that TRULY allows anything to be used as a weapon, like if we break the glass to get a sword and the sword is fake we pick up the sword stand or the glass a use those as weapons. something like that and it would allow for more weapon customization options.

Shooter with hack and slash, you can use third person shooter mode to take out enemies from afar and take out massive amounts of enemies or switch to third person hack and slash take out your weapon and use a variety of combos.

A hack and slash where you get to link combos together.

OK how about this you can go into a ghost like form and use these three abilities move objects, make someone hallucinate and possessing things from doors to rhinos. the more you use the powers the stronger they get starting with only taking control of basic house hold objects like clockwork toys or door bells and only being able to move objects that weigh 500grams or less and no hallucination but soon you can move heavy objects and take control of cars and sentry guns and make people hallucinate that there allies are space pirates.

An RTS and an FPS in one. You start out as a soldier on the battlefield. As a private, you are always in FPS mode. But as you rank up, like say, as a sergeant, you still fight in first person on the battlefield, but you go into RTS mode to order troops and make vehicles and stuff. And once you get to the rank of general, you're 100% in RTS mode.

Not my idea though, the idea of one of my friends.

How about an ability to slow down time -o wait

OT- for a squad based fps game, How about something like an ethereal rule- i.e you can make yourself phase out of normal time, enemies cant see you, you cant take damage, but you cant attack so you could add something like special features for your squad to make certain actions depending on what you saw - i.e finding a power plant to disable automated turrets, secret entrance attained by seeing a guard punch in the number on the keypad..although the enemies have to be really hard to compensate for these abilities.. also i give my best wishes to the guy who intends to give a logical reason as to why you can do that >>
