I like the OP's idea. They spent all this time developing an amazing universe, I see no reason to stop working with it.

In other news, people are still whining about Bioware games.

The sky is blue, the grass is green.

I most likely would, though not completely without hesitation. This is not about how Bioware supposedly hasn't made a good game in years, I enjoyed both Dragon Age's, the whole Mass Effect series except for, you know, the ending and The Old Republic. This is more about the corner Mr. Walters has the Mass Effect universe into. Sequels to a game with multiple endings are almost bound to be a mess. A sequel to Mass Effect - well, the only thing I'd wanna hear about these past hundred years in your scenario is "Only months after Shepard vanished on the Citadel over London, the Reapers inexplicably flew their asses into a sun".

The two things that'd make me especially cautious would be if Casey Hudson was in charge of the project again or if Mac Walters was still lead writer...

-EDIT-
Also it'd be a great relief for me if the new game was set before or during the events of the original trilogy. In the latter case, they could even allow for the savegames to be imported again...

However, if Bioware announced a new ME game set say 100 years in the "future-future" where you get to see the repercussions of the events in ME3, are you seriously telling me you wouldn't be interested in buying it?
So, basically, if Bioware made the same promises for this game that they made for ME3 would I buy it?
No, as they either won't keep their promises, or will twist them in a way that means they can 'keep' their promises no matter what they do. I don't trust Bioware when they say they're doing things.

You've already gone through the pain of the ending and all of its holes and uncertainty, why not enjoy a much more complex storyline that the previous ending would provide.
'cause its sure as hell not going to be more complex. Either through Bioware or EA's will it will be cut down, actionified and then sold as something different to what you've suggested. No matter your choices, the Asari rebuild the Relays, and Humans control the Citadel. No matter what alliances you forged, there is war between everyone, and Aria is killed off via Twitter. That's what I would expect Bioware to come up with from your suggestions at this point. Sure, it still keeps in line with what you suggested. And your choices really do affect it. Its a green glowing council rather than a normal council if you chose synthesis, and the Reapers head it if you chose synthesis or control, but nothing beyond cosmetic differences. Its how Bioware rolls.

If everything stayed the same at the end of ME3, the next story would just be oh-ho-hum Shepard just discovered another threat to the galaxy .
I'm assuming by 'stayed the same' you mean the Galaxy was in a stable place, without the relays blowing up and the Citadel and crap, as really the one thing players didn't want was for the ending to stay the same no matter what you did.
And if this is what you're saying, I say to hell with that. I'd rather an ME3 with a great ending as opposed to some half assed sequel which will of course have a half assed ending so that the next half assed sequel has potential. In addition to that, ME3 is the end of Shepards story, one way or another. Even if he had of survived, he wouldn't have been in the next game - if there was one - to discover some other threat. More likely I'd see it being a prequel, in the First Contact War, or set hundreds of years in the future like what you're proposing here with the threat of war between the Citadel Council and the Terminous Systems brewing on the Horizon, rather than some new form of Reaper showing up.

Actually, no. The only reason to get such a product is if you care about the story or the characterizations.

Alas the people that made really good stories and interesting characters seem to have either left or lost their way.

Given their recent story telling capability, DA2, SWTOR, and ME3, I see no reason to commit to a BW product that focuses on story until they learn how to tell one again.
To be fair, the Imperial Agent storyline in SWTOR is one of the finest bits of game storytelling I've come across in recent years. I'm not giving up hope yet!

Badassfully - I loved the Mass Effect games. More or less every moment of them. But the story is done.
There are two directions they can take I'd consider worthwhile.

One is a 4X style game. Picture Endless Space but with the Mass Effect races.

The second is a game set during the First Contact War. Possibly a multiplayer game, given that the MP in ME is actually pretty damn fun.

I'm done with Mass Effect.

I'm more interested in seeing what direction they're going to take Dragon Age 3, and whether or not it's going to suck as hard as 2.

I enjoyed Mass effect 3. Pretty much all of it, really. So I can't say I'd mind more. Though I'd prefer more Dragon Age, really. I'm still good with Bioware, so hell, I'll most likely enjoy whatever they choose to release next.

Not everyone hate Bioware nowadays.

Bioware started to mainstream their games after they were bought by EA, they lost some qualities and gained others, but overall their products are not for me anymore. Maybe if BW were independent again. Until then: so long.

ME3 had a bad ending and now has DLC that has made it better. Take away the last 10 minutes and it still totally deserves the 10's it's gotten and including the ending I'd make it a 9.

The people who act like ME3 was a terrible game are really full of shit. The ME series didn't just suddenly suck overnight because of a subpar ending that was heavily edited after the initial reaction. A lot of people were already going into it with full intentions of hatred on it and it was everywhere.

It's still a phenomenal series. I'd buy another starting a new saga in the universe.
Pretty much all of this. If they set the game in the future though, I wonder what they will consider the cannon ending of ME3 to be... I would prefer a prequel I think, although we already know a lot of what happened so the choice elements wouldn't be as grand there. Not sure what they could do but I believe they could make it work some how.

Well, I wont make the mistake of buying it new again, that's for sure.

I'll probably wait a few weeks, see how bad the internet reacts on it. IF people are pleasantly surprised by the hypotetical mass effect sequel, I might actually check it out.

I didn't enjoy ME3 as much as the previous two even before the ending. I felt that it had become more like a soap opera than a space opera. The combat wasn't any more interesting. It introduced some new characters I hated (Kai Leng). It retconned a lot of decisions I had made. You didn't get to speak for yourself anywhere near as much.

Consider that some people genuinely do just not enjoy it. Not everything that you don't agree with has to be stupid.

Also, why would people set out to hate it? The series had nothing but love up until 3.

this is off topic but how do you create a topic in the forum?

ot: As long as Bioware is partered with EA and abides by there buisness practices and schedules they arnt going to get another cent of my hard earned money.

capcha: CARBON FOOTPRINT
1. Hit 'Forums' in the upper right corner of the screen.

2. Select which forum you wish to go to by clicking it.

3. Hit "New Topic" on the left on the blue bar at the top of the list of forums.

4. Go crazy w/ your new toy.

Oh, and one more--

5. If you want to add a Poll just check the box under the Thread box, but don't put "Poll" in your Poll title because the system automatically does that for you.

Also the system screws up the Poll descriptions all the time, so you may have to go back in and edit them. Sometimes it takes a few minutes for it to work through the system. And several tries.

P.S. I just made a new thread. It's got a Poll. It's in the Off Topic forum. It's about Death Valley. Would somebody PLEASE go there and vote. I've gotten a lousy 3 votes in 2 hours.

Hey, I'm not too proud to beg.

OT: I'm not going to forsake BioWare. I'll just wait to see the general response to any new game of theirs before I decide to buy it.
thanks bro

What the hell is it with the new wave of ME 3 threads? I tought we have been through this already , why are we opening old wounds?

OT: Bioware is okay at best . I'm giving them one last shot to impress me with DA3 . Really liked DA:O , hated DA2 due to lack of story , DA3 , is the game that will make or break Bioware for me ... Not holding my breath .

As for EA , well , fuck EA and everything they stand for.

Yes actually, I am seriously telling you that I wouldn't be interested in buying it.

At least not just for the premise alone.
Bioware's been slipping since Mass Effect 2, and I'm not going to become invested in any new products of theirs unless I either see signs that they're pulling themselves up or they include something that truly captures my attention.

There's a lot riding on Dragon Age 3 for me, I still have hope that Bioware can turn themselves around and that DA3 will be a fitting end to that particular trilogy... but I don't have much.

If im honest about Mass effect/Bioware then yes I can tell you that I seriously wouldn't want to buy it.

I didn't get any ME2 DLC or ME3 so I think I can restrain myself from rushing to the shops to buy the £50 standerd edition on day 1.

People went on and on about the ending but most fans I saw still went on about how 99% of it was the best game ever and that this was an obvious fact. I now look more favorably on new COD releases than I will on new ME releases.

The cycle cannot be broken. The pattern has repeated itself more times than you can fathom. Controversial threads rise, evolve, advance, and at the apex of their glory they are extinguished. The ME3 ones were not the first.

OT: No, I am highly unlikely to buy another ME game, however it has nothing to do with ME3, it's a decision I made when I got ME1 (and 2, since that was at the same time) - it's a trilogy, I was promised a trilogy and I would get a trilogy.

That doesn't mean that I don't want another game to ever be released. I don't oppose the idea of it. In fact, I did mention this a few times during the ME3 fiasco almost half a year ago. It's a nice setting and I'd like to see more done with it.

That, again, doesn't mean that BioWare must release a game. It could be another game studio, it could actually not be a game even. But my idea is it'd be a bit of a loss to let the setting rot.

RARRGH, BIOWARE GAMES! GIMME GIMME GIMME!

Yes, I'd totally buy a Mass Effect sequel. Perhaps it will even tell me what actually happened to Shepard. But at the moment I'd rather they focus their resources on making Dragon Age 3.

I still want DA3 to feature both player characters from DA1 and DA2. That would be awesome. Also, I want to know what happened to Morrigan. That would also be awesome.
