After seeing the ass-hattery of the world, sometimes I do wonder if humanity itself needs to go. But then again, if humanity has a nice strong baseline of goodness - it will inevitably overcome the selfish desires of a warped aspirations of a corrupted few.

if humanity goes, then so does any sense that humanity did any wrong.

Now that I've had some sleep and am feeling a little better, if humanity goes - any good it does also goes with it. I guess we all gotta take the rough with the smooth, eh?

For all of humanity's faults, there are a lot of unsung heroes out there. It's a shame the media likes to tell the depressing stories over the auspicious ones. Because if it started showing that good is the default human alignment - it should inspire and uplift the whole species. Or so my theory goes.

Yeah. I'm not especially fond of existing, and the spectacle of an event like that would be amazing. On the other hand, other people mightn't feel the same way, so I'd settle for a lot of LSD, a slow and painless poison and a fireworks show on my way out.

Well, given that I live in a rural area of the UK, it's probably the safest place to be for almost any apocalyptic event. Low population density, so not many zombies. A LONG way away from any valuable area, so no nuclear anything is going to land nearby, including fallout, given the way the winds blow. It's a farming area, so plenty of food, and we have two supermarkets and a gun shop, easily defendable. Oh, and I'm trained in Advanced First Aid.

I don't really hope for one, but hey, I'm in a good place for it. I'd like to try it for a week or so.

Hate to tell you this, but the UK has the highest density of tactical and civilian nuclear targets out of any country in the world. You'd be screwed, no matter how remote your house is. (I'm assuming you live in Devon or Cornwall from your description) Remember the fallout would likely be worldwide, so you might get it sweeping in from North America or continental Europe.

OT: I wouldn't want to live through an apocalypse, but I think I'd be alright with being in the first generation born afterwards. You can rebuild civilization without getting all depressed about how much better life was before the end of the world.

I live in mid-Wales. I'm 30 miles from the nearest possible target, which is a small city. The wind tends to blow east, and the city is directly south. I think I'm safe. Though, fair enough, I'm not sure about fallout coming in from over the Atlantic.
From the information found in nuclear tests, the actual force wave from a nuke in hat city would dissipate after maybe a few miles. I'd hear it, bu that's it. Radiation would dissipate as well, unless it wan a neutron bomb, which it wouldn't be. Far too expensive.

I would love for some sort of apocalypse to happen, as I think a fresh start for humanity is in order. However, it comes with a price. I was just diagnosed with diabetes, and am now on insulin four times a day to moderate my blood suger levels. Sure, dieting helps control it, but in the event of societal collapse, I would find myself scavenging for medical supplies.

Eventually, those would run out, and I would have to make do as best as possible. In all likely situations, I would be able to survive for awhile witht he skills I have obtained in my life, but the simple lack of advanced medicine would be my downfall.

Therefore, I would make it my post collapse goal to put into place a new medical research facility that could cater to the survivors.

Nah man, you'd be too weak (unless you're extremely skilled at something-or-other that's useful). We'd offer you as bait to the zombies so we can make a dramatic escape when we're surrounded.

This is the apocalypse, no time for morality.

Oh, I am extremely useful. My entire life I have been learning survival skills, and I am dead handy with anything mechanical. I am also a dead shot with a firearm, so It would be quite foolish to throw me out. I assure you, I am well worth the trouble.

I've been wishing for a zombie apocalypse for years now, mostly so I wouldn't have to deal with so many people.

Well, I'm a closet nutjob survivalist.

Despite living in the largest city in Australia, I'm (discreetly!) armed to the teeth, chose my apartment considering survivalist issue (defensibility, access to resources, vulnerability to fire, barricadable entries), work out constantly, have a supply of non-perishable food and water in my house that will last approximately 3 months for my family and I, have jerry cans of gasoline in my garage, at least one easily grabbed weapon in every room (knives taped to the back of furniture, medieval weaponry on the walls, etc), a BOB prepared in the closet by the front door, an evacuation plan set up and multiple routes out of the city planned (on foot/bicycle, of course!), and if I'm wearing pants I have a torch, a pocket knife, a lighter, a compass, and a whistle in my pocket (I always wear cargo pants and my work is nightshifts and weekends so I never wear business attire despite working in an office). Speaking of work, I live 3 km in a straight line from my office, and know multiple alternate routes to get there in a hurry. My wife is fully aware of what she needs to do as well if TSHTF and a TEOTWAWKI event pops up.

But no, I don't really hope for an apocalypse. I'm just making damned sure I'm not gonna be caught unprepared. I know that I, alone, could survive a great deal, but looking after my wife and young son as well would be difficult.
