I had an idea recently and was hoping to maybe garner some form of support to resurrect a nearly dead game franchise. Since the release of the 3DS and the new PS Vita, handheld consoles have great potential to bring some new life to a franchise that hasn't seen any action since the PS2, XBOX era. I'm talking of course about Fatal Frame. If you can see where i'm going with this, great, if not, i'll elaborate.

I'm talking about a horror themed Augmented Reality Immersion experience. A First Person Horror game, that utilizes the 3DS and/or Vita Camera's to turn your living room, shopping mall, bathroom, or wherever you are into a terrifying survival experience. Fatal Frame could benefit from the new life, and since it could go to both platforms, people could play a game for the handheld of your choice. Now the reason why i say it should be Augmented Reality because they could have you use your own surroundings, or perhaps a Computer Generated one that tracks your movements around the area. Think about it. The camera would be used to gather clues as to the weakness of said Ghost you are tracking, and then you could catch glimpses of it around a corner, or it could leave a spectral trail of blood or other fluids. I'm thinking it could come stock with anywhere from 10-30 enemies, and area's. Plus have hidden harder bosses, and easter eggs, With the ability to upload or download new bosses from Hotspots at stores that could promote the game. I think it could sell, but i also think it could bring an even bigger player base to the 3DS and Vita crowds. What do you guys think?

Something like this might make me interested in actually getting a 3DS, that sounds pretty cool.

Also, the forums here are kinda slow at times, let your thread sit for a while, someone should eventually find it and post.

That actually sounds pretty awesome! I wasn't a big fan of the Fatal Frame series because the controls was just something I couldn't get over. But if this were to come to fruition I would definitely feel inclined to drop some money on the Vita. Heck, even if it didn't work out so well, it would be a step in the right direction, in much the same vein as Rise of Nightmares for the Kinect.

Omigosh that sounds awesome!
Except I would feel a bit of a wierdo wandering around a shopping market freaking out at my DS...
Perhaps that could be some kind of side game to the main game? I'm only saying that because I like my games to have a full, fleshy story to them...
Still, that is actually a pretty nice idea!
Also, highly appropriate avatar you have there ;)

Why thank you :p It could be a side story, or maybe a main component. Like the first person view point and the camera aspects say, but the bosses are the stage enders, and there could be some random weaker ghosts in certain locations. Maybe a survival mode could be initiated as well, Also maybe it could have a sharing mode that tracks where you go, and you can snap pictures and upload em online and people could spot the ghosts or entities that the game generates or something

Thats kinda what i was going for. Plus there aren't enough hard-core horror games on hand held consoles. I mean the Corpse-Party title that just came out for the PSP was nice, but developers need to push the envelope and embrace the new technology that hand helds are coming out with. I mean, i'd love to be riding on a bus or walking in a mall and scream because the game i was playing Mind-Raped me. Lol

Also with the Augmented Reality bit, Reality Fighters has an option where you can fight in a computer generated area, and you can move around them. The best part is the levels could be randomized every time you play them. They could also have secret area's. It could introduce a random mystery to each level, and you could read books, scan paintings, and compile clues all the while getting chased by random ghosts and having things screw with you. Also if you played with headphones, the game could introduce Ambient sounds, like doors creaking, footsteps, Faint Screaming, laughter, children's voices. Stuff that would just terrify you.

Definitely something that I would love to see implemented. I remember a kids toy doing something similar where you could get creatures from scanning bar codes.

Though I can see it being done for a more action / RPG game first since, as mentioned before, no one would really want to wonder around screaming in a mall or something while holding their 3DS up but being able to get items or gear by wondering around and having randomly spawned items that you could "scan" for.

Also, this forum is in it's notorious "Something big is happening! Make a million threads about it!" Mode. Before it was Skyrim now it's EA / Bioware and their ME3 DLC so if your thread isn't about "EA is right and you're an idiot if you think otherwise" or "EA is evil!" you won't get much action for a while.

I have noticed that Threads about hating something get more action. I'll bide my time and continue fleshing out the idea. I want to see something like this on a handheld.
