So now that pretty much every large market has the game lets have a discussion about the game. Are you liking it or hating it? Who's your main? Did you buy any amiibos? Etc.

Personally I'm loving it. It feels and looks amazing (at a constant 60FPS too, not a common sight these days) and the amount of content is so big it's putting Hyrule Warriors to shame in my "games I will never, EVER complete" list. I don't have a single main yet but I'm growing fond of Ike, Pac-Man and Duck Hunt; they all have movesets that really work for me.

As for Amiibos, I got Samus, Link and Donkey Kong and they look much better than I expected. They're also MUCH harder than even any level 9 CPUs I've faced, my Samus puts up a really hard fight. It's annoying that you can't change colours after the initial setup though.

I played it a little bit at a friend's house. Zero Suit Samus, Samus, and Marth/Lucina were my favorites (unsurprising, considering they are my favorites on the 3DS). Some of my general thoughts were:

1. Those maps are way too big. Granted, my friends and I were playing on a lot of the larger maps, so I may have just been seeing the worst. Still, if I have to choose between the 3DS and WiiU maps, I'd definitely go with the 3DS for the simple fact that they are smaller. Actually, outside of one of the Star Fox maps (I think it was called Orbital Gate Assault), I didn't really enjoy any of the new maps we played. The ones I enjoyed were the returning ones or the ones that were also in the 3DS version.

2. I'm not sure if this was my friends' TV (it was an old one) or the game, but some of the items seem to be lacking enough detail to make them out compared to other similar-looking ones. This might just be the TV (or the screen zooming out too much for those big maps!) because I don't have that problem on the 3DS.

3. Fighting is as solid as ever. I'm also glad that I can use analog sticks now.

4. 8 player fights are so much fun!!!!!!!!

Overall, though, despite the maps, I still enjoyed myself. I do prefer the 3DS version, but once I finally get a more firm list of the maps I like, I'm sure I can enjoy the Wii U version almost on the same level as well.

I would say it's the best Smash experience, and not just because it's the brand new, shiny one. It feels like a balance between Melee and Brawl, and as someone who actually liked Brawl about as much as Melee, it works out great for me.

A great cast of characters despite some clones, who never bug me too much. the new stages are great, my favorite being the Pokemon Kalos League, and the Pyrosphere among others. Music is fantastic, classic mode's new format is nice. Though I can't help but notice I'm fighting only on the bigger stages in classic since most of the fights are more than four fighters. I wish there was an adventure mode like Melee, but it's not the most important part of Smash Bros. anyway.

As for mains, Link has always been my main since the original. So obviously Toon Link is another main of mine, along with Mario, Kirby, and Zelda. My new favorites would definitely be Greninja and Robin. Plus, I love that Samus feels so much better to control now compared to all the previous games.

The online works well, out of the 12 matches I've had online, only one had lag, and even then it was not unplayable.

After about a week with it, I'm still loving it so far. Between this and Pokemon ORAS, I haven't been very productive for a while...

Edit: Forgot about Amiibos! Actually I haven't gotten any yet. I'll probably end up getting a Link, Mario, Kirby, and maybe Samus one. Though I am more excited to get the figures than to use them for their real purpose. XD

I don't have the Wii U version, only melee and brawl. But I do have a question for all of you.

How is the single player adventure mode?

Melee was fun, changed up the enemies with each map, great soundtrack, the level design was also good.

Brawl's adventure mode, the cutscenes were amazing, and the fact that you selected your fighters during the story and chose how to act out was pretty cool.
The fact that you had to fight the same enemies over and over kinda got old. At time I wasn't ENJOYING the levels, I was mostly just sprinting to the end so I could see the next cutscene.

So, what about the Wii U version? Does it have an adventure mode? Do they improve it? Does it feel like a worthy sequel?

Huge character roster means that everyone can find someone they like playing. I'm really loving some of the new characters, like Greninja and Little Mac. Little Mac is one of my mains now, he's fucking awesome (except for his recovery which is total garbage). I really don't like some of the more gimmicky characters, like Villager, Pac-Man, and Duck Hunt dog but that's probably mostly because I haven't learned how to deal with them yet. Seriously though, Villager is fucking bullshit. Link is fucking awesome, and so is Toon Link. Captain Falcon seems weaker than he used to be, but I can't quite put my finger on why. Dark Pit is a waste of a character slot, they should have thought up a better new character to introduce because the difference between him and Pit is marginal. Speaking of which, really glad to see Pit nerfed a bit. He was my main in Brawl and he was incredibly OP. I miss the Samus "sex kick."

I really REALLY hate most of the stages. There's too much going on in most of them and too many gimmicks. If you're fighting the stage/trying to avoid hazards more than fighting other players it's just not fun. My friends and I stick to the mode that only gives you stages without stage hazards and thank fucking christ that's there.

All in all I think the game is tons of fun. Love the amount of content (even if I'll probably never touch half of it).

Unfortunately, the Wii U version does not have an adventure mode or any equivalent. I have no idea why they decided to exclude, but there isn't really anything we can do about it.

OT: I've been having an absolute blast with the game. The roster is amazing, and the new characters are fantastic, with my favorites being Duck Hunt, Little Mac, and Charizard (does he count?). Other characters I've been enjoying are Kirby, Yoshi, Toon Link, and Link. None of the characters really feel like total bull-shit, and overall the game feels more balanced than Brawl did, although I am by no means a Smash expert.

I think the stage selection is slightly weaker than Brawl. I mean, I like most of the stages (except Palutena's Temple, fuck that stage), but\ it feels like there are too many stages that were in Brawl, which causes the stage selection to feel too familiar, which is not helped by a few stages that feel remarkably similar to old stages (I'm looking at you Town and City) I mean, would it have killed them to put in a Melee stage that wasn't in Brawl? Or a few more new stages?

The single player portion of the game is probably it's weakest portion. Yes, there are quite a few things to do, but none of them feel like they have the depth of previous Samsh entries. There is no mode that you can just sink your teeth into for an hour or two, with all of the modes feeling like they were designed around shorter play sessions. And there's nothing wrong with that, but I would have liked something meatier.

I have not had a good experience with the online. I've only played a handful of games, but all of those had lag, and were unpleasant to play. This could be my setup though (I have to play with the LAN adapter, which is not ideal), and I should try it again in a different environment. You may have a better experience than I have been having. I do wish that the games were a little longer though (seriously, two minutes is too short for Smash Bros.).

My favorite part of the new game has to be the 5-8 player matches. Being able to sit down with four other people and not requiring someone to sit out is amazing. And even with 8 fighters on the screen, the game still manages 1080p 60fps, which is just incredible.

Despite my numerous gripes, I still am having a blast with it. Playing with friends is as good as its always been, and the fighting is just as good, if not better than previous games. If you have a Wii U, get this game. If you don't have a Wii U, find someone who does and just play with theirs until they kick you out.

It's good! 'Nuff said. Haha

I'm digging it, but Mega Man is easily the weakest fighter until you get comfortable with his moveset.
Smash Tour is also kind of garbage to me. 8 player matches, while cool, turn into a cluster of furious movement, where it gets hard to keep track of your player unless you have a big TV.

I love Captain Falcon, as always. I have his Amiibo preordered at the moment. I doubt his will be in any shortage, but the local Gamestop had only stocked one Marth because only one person preordered one - a quick look on Amazon tells me that his price has inflated quite a bit for similar reasons. I tried Ganondorf out thinking that he'd be similar enough, but unless I missed something in Brawl, it seems they changed up his moveset just a wee bit to distinguish it more from the Cap. But that asides, I can't stand him. Either I suck, or his recovery and movement speed is just trash compared to Falcon.

The roster is great, as always. I'm glad that all of the veterans made it in. Clone characters are still a thing, though like with Ganondorf, their movesets are different enough to set them apart. Especially Luigi - I'm so proud of that poor bastard. Dark Pit was a waste of a character slot though.

No Smash WiiU for me until maybe 10 days forward, not at my hometown so I'll have to wait :,/
I'm thinking about getting 2 or 3 amiibos, but not sure yet who to get, I'm thinking since they usually team up with me or play against my foes, they should be someone I sort of like but don't play as. Not sure yet, maybe Fox, one of the Pokemons (just to be able to do the "I choose you" thing :p) and I'll have to check the new ones out also before deciding.

For those who have it though, we're trying to get Escapist members gathered at the "WiiU Online Multiplayer" user group and maybe get an Escapist tournament together when the time is right. Also if you just want to upgrade your NintendoID friends list it's a good idea to sign up :D

So see you around when December comes around and lets's smahs!
I can't wait and I've been watching Youtube videos all week long just waiting to get my hands on the game and install it!!
GGGAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!

Captain Falcon used to be my main, but I've found myself to be using Little Mac whenever I go online multiplayer. I've not unlocked Duck Hunt yet(just unlocked Dark Pit earlier today), what sort of fighter is he(strength, speed, defense)?
When it comes to multiplayer I find that I do well with characters who's down smash is a counter attack, and that I have the worst time against Mario and Luigi.

He's a character that's hard to master, but when you do your opponents will hate your guts. He's not that fast, and is very much a ranged character but if you can handle his moves well you can get some really good damage going. That and his smash moves are amazing in their range.

It's a lot of fun, but the WiiU Gamepad isn't 100% when it comes to what attacks I want to use (The C-Stick keeps attacking the opposite direction I'm pointing it at. Not all the time, just some times).

Still, my mains have been Duck Hunt Dog and King DeDeDe. However, I've only won 34% Of all Online fights I've battled... I need to practice more...

No one's mentioned Smash Tour yet?

What are your thoughts on it? I kind of ... don't like it, personally. I'm kind of sour that there are challenges based on it because I'm driven to complete them all lol.

Played it with 4 friends, and all of us agreed...we will never play it again. It's honestly just very boring, with not much going on unless you purposely go after people. Smash Run should have been put in the Wii U version, with Smash Tour being in the 3DS version.
We only did a 15 turn game on the small board, but we all still wanted it to end sooner.

Just tried it today. Not really impressed... it's super sluggish and floaty. It's a lot closer to brawl than it is to Melee, that's for sure. On the up-side, it looks pretty. On the downside, the gameplay is painfully slow and most of the stages are terrible. There's also very little tech (as far as I know) which leaves the game feeling a bit shallow (and contributes to the feeling of slowness).

The characters seem like they might be a little more balanced than melee, and with ongoing patches I suppose any characters that become "too strong" as technology and meta progress will probably be nerfed to keep them in line. Which is both a good and bad thing.

For casual/non-competitive players it's probably fine, but I doubt it's going to hold up much better than Brawl as a competitive game.

I do wish there was a way to play that end match though. Having different characters as stocks is such an interesting idea. It's like they combined King of Fighters with Smash. Shame we have to slog through Smash Tour just to get it.

OT: I'm enjoying it immensely. I like all the characters and 8-player smash is just insane and fun to play.

In the match we all played, it got pretty one-sided when I had the second most characters, 3, when compared to AfroBattler who had 8 characters. Perhaps if you had some sort of match every 5 turns or something it'd be more interesting, but as it stands Smash Tour is just something none of us are gonna do again. It's the same thing when it came to that Street Pass game on the 3DS version. I'm playing Smash to beat the hell out of friends/random strangers with Nintendo All-Stars (and occasional 3rd party characters). What I don't want to do is play a minigame that keeps me from Smashing others. Smash Run was fun, and really should have been on the Wii U version as well, as I think it probably could have done better on the Wii U.

...I can't really agree here. Well, OK, maybe I've just had a heated discussion in another forum about this subject, but just because the "tech" isn't 100% equal to Melee's tech doesn't mean that there is NO tech. Smash4 plays faster than Brawl but slower than Melee. There are specific combos and techs that are unqiue to Smash4 (such as changing the DI). I think we just need to wait a few more weeks (or whenever the Smash community finally decides to stop over-praising Melee like its the godamn second coming of Christ) before all the techs can be discovered.

I also disagree with the opinions on stage selections. Which maps did you think were terrible? And we're obviously excluding the large maps designed for 8-players like Palutena's Temple and The Great Cave Offensive. I do think some of the stages have a too large blast zone but I still enjoyed plenty of the stages.

Well, yeah, Smash Tour is just unbalanced and a luck fest but I was talking more about taking the last match and turning it into a mode on its own. Like setting the number of stock and the beginning and then having each player select which stock would be a certain player. Hence my comparing to The King of Fighters.

I do wish Smash Run was on Wii U, though. Maybe it could have had linking maps, or new ones.

Ah, okay I see. Yeah that would be a fun mode to be sure, especially if you have friends choose their mains. I remember Brawl did that at the end for the Subspace when it came to the battle against Taboo.

Perhaps one day we'll get it. Sakurai basically made it to mirror how City Trial was, and seeing as how my friends and I did 7 whole videos on Air Ride doing nothing but that, we had fun.
