I, being a huge RPG-nerd, love my own inventory. My bag that is. I have an almost unhealthy relationship with my bags. Generally I'm a quite messy, my apartment isn't very organized, my locker at work is a disaster-zone which only people in hazmat-suits dare enter. But my bags are always neat and tidy. I always carry my "standard loud-out". Things I might not use everyday, but things I never want to leave home without. And I can spend hours cleaning them out and re-organizing their contents.

I believe that there is a lot to learn about a person in what he/she carries with them. So, dear escapist-people, what is in your bags/sacks/purses/etc? What kind of bag do you use?

I personally have three bags.
1: Sachel bag - For everyday use, never leave home without it.
It contains:
* Travelling book (Right now: Trainspotting by Irvine Welsh)
* A notebook, a pacer, a ballpoint pen
* iPod and earplugs
* A pack of smokes
* A leatherman
* A set of lockpicks
* A digital camera
(* On a few occasions, if time permits: A delicious sandwich)

2: Backpack - For days when there is need for large portable storage space
It contains:
*Nothing at the moment. It usually contains bag #1 and items which have been purchased/recovered

3: An old military backpack - It is placed in my wardrobe for emergencies.
It contains:
* Dried food rations
* Water purification tablets
* First Aid kit
* A set of durable clothes
* A skinning knife
* A small toolkit (monkey wrench, screwdriver, swiss-army knife, etc.)
* A sleeping-bag strapped to the back

tl:dr:
What kind of bag do you own, and what do you never leave home without?

[edit]
Pockets count as well, if bag is not available.

I have two bags that I regularly use. One is my work daypack (I work on a trail maintenance crew, so I have to lug a bunch of hiking stuff with me) and the other is my laptop bag.

My work pack generally contains a gallon container full of water, a first-aid kit, my Leatherman, lunch, a fuckton of sporks and napkins pilfered from Taco Bell, my camera, my rain gear, one of my hats, and (if it's fall or winter) my sweatshirt. Sometimes I'll also be ordered to carry along some hand-tools, or, if it's a chainsaw week, I'll have to carry my saw maintenance kit.

My laptop bag generally contains my fancy electronic stuff--my computer, my iPod, and all the fancy stuff that goes with them.

I have a legendary handbag. Purple and grey with sequins. It always contains

- Keys (with USB hard drive)
- Purse
- Student card (because discounts are fun!)
- ID (because looking underage is pesky)
- Pens (ink pen and ballpoint, in case I have to fill in a form)
- Phone
- Digital camera
- Battered iPod
- Hairbrush
- Moisturiser
- Lipbalm
- Antiseptic skin cream
- Book (at the moment, Kusamakura by Soseki)
- Umbrella
- Bottled water
- Sunglasses (during the summer months. Right now, as a lucky talisman to encourage sun)

Epic inventory is epic!

Currently I am bagless. Sadly without bag. Up bag river without a bag paddle.

You get the picture.

But, I have my eye on a few variations of messenger bags, preferably something in strong fabric or soft leather.

Usually I'll have:
My phone
Wallet and important contents thereof
Mini-Digi cam
Notepad/Pencil/Pen/Possibly colours
Walkman and Earphones
Some form of packaged edibles
A bottle of water

With that, I can survive pretty much anywhere. I do have a few other survival kit items, such as a flint and steel and a very good knife. But I don't carry those with me all the time.

Heh, sadly no, only did basic training. But being a child born in the forest and partly raised in the "ghetto", you learn to always be prepared.

I don't carry a bag anywhere with me, but there are things I never leave the house without -

keys (car and house)
cel phone
wallet (with driver's license, debit card, and usually some cash)
chapstick
chewing gum

And I usually always wear my baseball cap.

Hmm, I normally keep a first aid kit available (never know when it will be needed) with the additions of a tourniquet and other items (yeah, exmilitary, trained as a medic/emt). Also, a small knife (for utility uses and, when necessary, self defense...though I have never had to use it for that purpose yet), my wallet, cell phone...and I think that's a bout it.

Ah, I feel your pain. I was also discharged before finishing training. It stinks.

I wasn't actually discharged, I finished basic training here in Sweden(an 11 month stint). I left after that, I didn't want to pursue the career the good ol' army folks wanted me to do. So I don't really concider myself "Ex-military"/"military", since I only went to basic and didn't do anything else after that. I'm a normal civilian in my own eyes.
Heh, I know a couple of military guys, and they're way worse than me. :)

Well, OT now:

My sachel/messenger bag looks like this:

I love the heavy fabric of it. It's inconspicuous and blend very well into my personal taste. What's your favourite model?

That's cool. How would I be able to order one?
I bought mine here in town. But the website I snipped the picture from apparently has an "order" function. Try there. If you can't find the link, I'll send it to you. Because I believe that posting it here might be "advertisement", but I'm not sure.

Thanks, I thought it would be more expensive. How often do you hear people refer to it as a "murse" (man-purse)? I'll still get one because I think it's cool but I was wondering. Probably not a lot because the military there wears them.

I've honestly never heard anyone call it or any other man-related-carrying-utility a "murse". Maybe a cultural thing...
Because I've seen larger men than me carry around things like this:

And there has not been a problem anywhere. I think they look kinda silly though.
