When I played Black Ops a second time, I listened to quite a bit of Muse while I did it.
While distinctly un-Vietnam-era, their songs really seem to fit the game for me.

Specifically, songs like Assassin, Stockholm Syndrome, and MK Ultra.

Also, I saw a trailer for Blops with a Rolling Stones song in, and I don't think it's been mentioned so far: Just a Shot Away.

The song is called Gimme Shelter. I think it was mentioned earlier in the thread.

As for my recommendations, I'll try and do only one by each band I can think of. All from the 60's, of course. I'll try to pick ones that haven't been mentioned before as well, forgive me if I repeat someone.

Satisfaction (Rolling Stones)
Light My Fire (The Doors)
I Saw Her Standing There (The Beatles)
Born to be Wild (Steppenwolf) How in the heck was this not mentioned?
Respect (Aretha Franklin)
Black Dog (Led Zeppelin)
Sympathy for the Devil (Rolling Stones)
In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida (Iron Butterfly)
You Never Can Tell (Chuck Berry)
White Rabbit (Jefferson Airplane)
Pinball Wizard (The Who)
The Times They Are A'Changing (Bob Dylan)
Good Vibrations (Beach Boys)
Heard It Through the Grapevine (Marvin Gaye)
In The Midnight Hour (Wilson Pickett)

Maybe some of these won't quite meet your warfare expectations, but they are all absolute classics of the 60's and the 'Nam era.

Sorry but, no, it wasn't Gimme Shelter.
I know that was in one trailer, but in a small 30-second one I saw on 4oD, Just a Shot Away was featured.

.....there isn't any Rolling Stones song called Just A Shot Away. You are thinking of the refrain from Gimme Shelter.

This is Gimme Shelter. The refrain goes "War, children, its just a shot away."

eh, it may seem like a strange idea, but i find Hero of War by rise against works for pretty much ANY war game as a sound track.

Other then that... I guess bad company. But i think the Godsmack version is a bit better then original so i would go with that. its a bit more.... edgy (maybe the word?)

Agree with most everything on here, especially Rolling Stones Gimme Shelter.
How about CCR 'Run Through the Jungle'

"Welcome to the Family" by Avenged Sevenfold (I know it was in a trailer video and it really fit).
Also, "Milk Lizard" by The Dillinger Escape Plan. It would be great for some of the more action packed sections.

It seems a lot of people are just recycling the same stereotypical answers. I think we need more totally different songs. It doesn't have to have been written in the Vietnam era to work!

*facepalm* dude, its Gimme Shelter, by The Rolling Stones.

Sometimes I think education in bands such as the Stones and the Beatles should be compulsory, to avoid horrible situations such as this.

I'm gonna go ahead and suggest Eve of Destruction by Barry Maguire. It's about the right era (1965) and is very very suitable for 'Nam.

Infact I'm surprised it's not been mentioned already...

Dude, no, it wasn't.
Can you not read? I said, it was NOT Gimme Shelter. That song was in the more widely seen trailer. Just a Shot Away was in a smaller, 30-second trailer. Both songs were used in separate trailers. Activision are a big company. They can afford to make multiple trailers, and use multiple songs.
Gimme Shelter AND Just A Shot Away are both used in trailers of different lengths.

Sometimes I think education in simple logic should be compulsory, to avoid horrible situations such as this.

...did you go to my link? The song is called Gimme Shelter. There are a hundred youtube videos alone that have this song listed as Gimme Shelter. Other people on this thread alone has said its Gimme Shelter.

Please, please tell me you are trolling. Otherwise, I am just disappointed.

....sigh. You aren't listening, and you aren't even trying. Do me a favor, would you? Go to youtube, type in Gimme Shelter, and listen to the song? Please? It'll only take a few minutes.

Or go to wikipedia, or some site you trust more, and pull up a Rolling Stones discography. Ctrl-F Gimme Shelter, then search Just a Shot Away. Tell me which gets more hits.

Jesus fucking christ man, that song is calld Gimme Shelter!!

The Rolling Stones never made a song called Just A Shot Away!!

Type in "The Rolling Stones, Gimme Shelter" into youtube. Just do it.

You'll then find out that you are wrong, and that song is called Gimme Shelter, and has been called Gimme Shelter on every single album that it's used on.

Either you've been led astray by some Youtube tard who got the song name wrong, you are a troll, I'm not sure which one.

THIS.

That game was so awesome. I loved riding a huey with White Rabbit blasting. OR The Kinks. For a classic rock fan like me this game was great.
