Has anyone played this freeware gem? It is currently one of my favorite games ever.

A little bit of both. I didn't see any threads on it and I wanted to know people's opinions.

Look at my freeware game reviews! The download link and home site is on there, I also have screenshots and pros and cons about it.

And yes, the game is great and a lot of people know about it.

It's somewhat of a 2-D shooter in the vein of Metroid games.
Just read ^ his reviews. They're pretty good.

I have. I'm on my second run at the moment. I'm aiming to get the secret/best ending this time, as I messed up last time (I forgot to do something along the way :( ) I'm now up to the Misery/Doctor/Undead Core fight.

I play this game every so often, and for a freeware game it is astonishingly good. Anyone who hasn't played it yet really ought to give it a try, especially since it's FREE. It's an oldie, but a goodie, and one of the few cult classics I actually like. I had heard something about it getting ported to the PSP with completely redone graphics (with the original graphics included as an option), and I know they had the original creator's blessing, even his cooperation, but it was a few years ago and I think it fell apart.

For me it's a little too easy. All I had to do was level up my machine gun to the max and hold down the fire button while jumping up and down. That and the fact you can use the machine gun as a jetpack.

All I know is we're getting a WiiWare version.

Yeah my friend showed me that game right about the same time as I Wanna Be The Guy. Now there's something that should come to Live or WiiWare lol.

Seems we can't go 2 weeks without somebody bringing this game up. It's wasn't new then [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/jump/9.56739.424820] and it's not now. There's even been a Escapist review written [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/jump/326.71635.731865] on it. Twice [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/jump/326.73902.814688]. Three times [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/jump/326.81763.1098181]. At least.

That said, I enjoyed the game when I played it. It has a fairly tight balance, endearing graphics, a plot line that unabashedly tugs at the heart strings.

I found it fun, but gave up after getting killed countless times by the red insta-kill Bullshit spikes. >.>
